☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 1119 comments Thanks Sherri. I'm also trying to see which I'm going to use for the far and stormy. It's a toss up. Plus I'm trying to finish up with my free space so we can get the stamp for it and need to work on my demon book. So much reading and such little time.

Sherri | 781 comments Here is my Series Catch Up so we can get one more stamp.

WEEK 4 – Series Catch-up!
August 5th -

Hellhound (Deadtown, #5) by Nancy Holzner
Title: Hellhound by Nancy Holzner
Rating: 3.5 Stars
Read: Aug 5th – Aug 19th
# pages: 320 pages

Review: Hellhound was an OK read for me; whether it was just the time in my life I was reading it or the story I can’t say, but Hellhound resolved a major previous storyline while opening up the series for a new (and intriguing) direction.

I’ve always enjoyed Victory and her demon chasing ways, but I wanted a bit more from Hellhound than what it delivered. Her hunky werewolf boyfriend Kane was only briefly presented and maybe I missed his soothing presence on Victory.

I’ll still continue with the series as I want to see if the series will take a new direction (like I hope) or not. If not, that may be the last of the series for me as the series has become a bit stagnant for me.

Chained by Night (MoonBound Clan Vampire, #2) by Larissa Ione
Title: Chained by Night by Larissa Ione
Rating: ★★★★★
Read: 8/3 – 8/9
# pages: 400 pages

Review: I really liked this one! Initially I thought this new series for Larissa Ione couldn’t stand a chance next to her Demonica series, but I was wrong. Although I still LOVE the Demonica series the Moonbound Clan Vampires is a strong contender.

I had read Bound by Night and really enjoyed it, but Chained by Night is even better. Hunter is one great character and Ione has a lot to work with him, but the star for me was Aylin; a truly wonderful, strong heroine. Chained by Night has all that I could ever ask for in a paranormal romance; wonderful characters, a kickass world, drama, an evil (or not) twin, and a strong and twisted enemy. A great and exciting read!

Title: Donners of the Dead by Karina Halle
Rating: 4.5★
Read: 8/21
Pages: 287
Review: I really, really enjoyed this book. There was so much going on. The character Eve went throuh so many things in this book but at least she found things about herself and also learned the truth about her father. The ending was sad but also ended well. Of there was a happy ending but it was a struggle to get there.

Jennifer H Week #6 ~ Dark & Stormy

Creation in Death (In Death, #25) by J.D. Robb
Creation in Death by JD Robb
Finished: 8/23/15
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

This is the 25th (30th if you count all the novellas in between) book in the In Death Series.

The year is 2060 and Homicide Lt. Eve Dallas of the New York Police and Security Department is called to the crime scene of a young woman murdered and then left in the local park. Eve immediately recognizes the torturing signature of a killer she investigated 9 years ago when she was just a rookie, partnered with Feeney. This is a killer they dubbed The Groom and were never able to apprehend.

This is a case that brings back a lot of memories, emotion and anger from everyone on the NYPSD. When the victim turns out to be one of Roarke's employees, he too becomes invested in finding this killer.

This series is a reread for me. There is just nothing left for me to say about this series other than I love it :)

Wanted Undead or Alive (Love at Stake, #12) by Kerrelyn Sparks
Title: Wanted: Undead or Alive by Kerrelyn Sparks
Rating: ★★★½
Read: 8/23/15
Review:

This was another pleasurable read in the Love at Stake series. I am very impressed that this is the 12th book in the series and it continues to keep my interest - very few writers are capable of this.

Wanted: Undead or Alive is Phineas McKinney's story. Phineas, aka The Love Doctor, has provided comic relief since his transformation into a vampire. Now that all his friends seem to be getting married and settling down he realizes that he wants that for himself too. However, after years of being "The Love Doctor" no one takes him seriously. He wants to find someone who will love him for who he is.

I did not rate this book as high as I have the others because Phineas and Brynely did not "fit" well together, in my opinion. I did not feel the connection or chemistry that has been consistently there with the couples of previous books.

I still highly recommend the series and I am looking forward to reading about Howard Barr in the next book.

I love the Naked Series, and Eve and Peabody are some of my favorite characters (along with Roarke of coarse!)

I've wondered a bit about the Kerrelyn Sparks series. I have never read any of them but I keep wanting to. I may need to add to be TBR pile.

Sherri | 781 comments The Veil (Devil's Isle, #1) by Chloe Neill

Week 5: - Demons - Aug 12th

Title: The Veil by Chloe Neill
Rating: ★★★★★
Read: Aug 15th – Aug 19th
# pages: 336 pages

Review: I really did not know much about The Veil; but because Chloe Neil wrote it and I adore her Vampires in Chicago series, I added it to my Amazon shopping cart.

Set in an alternate version of New Orleans that has been attached by magical creatures from another dimensions, Claire Connolly’s world is pretty grim. Magic is outlawed and anyone discovered with it or using it is imprisoned within a walled off portion of New Orleans. I have to admit to being intrigued by this “new” New Orleans and the dystopian world the book is set in.

Claire and Liam are likeable characters along with eclectic supporting cast that consists of Liam’s grandmother and brother, a paranormal computer hacker and Claire’s best buddies; a linguist student and military attaché. Altogether, the Veil was a good start to a new series and one that I will be following.

Sherri | 781 comments Black Widow (Elemental Assassin, #12) by Jennifer Estep

WEEK 6 – Dark and Stormy
August 19th -

Title: Black Widow by Jennifer Estep
Rating: ★★★★★
Read: Aug 20th – August 25th
# pages: 357 pages

Review: Wow, can this really be the 12th book in this series! It is still as fresh and inventive as it was in the beginning. Just when you think the plot will become stale; Ms. Estep is able to creatively twist the plot and make what was old new again.

Black Widow is really a continuation of Poison Princess where we were introduced to Mab Monroe’s daughter; M.M. Monroe (or Madeline Magda). She had returned to Ashland to take over Momma’s empire and Gin and her were definitely not in agreement to M.M.’s plan.

Madeline has been plotting and the results of her machinations come to fruition early in Black Widow causing Gin to protect what she values most: her friends and family.

Black Widow had me engaged throughout the whole novel and since I was listening to the audiobook, I credit Lauren Fortgang for her excellent variety of southern accents. I especially hated Dobson and I could almost taste the sneer that was woven into his voice ehenever he talked.

Lastly, the action was non-stop in Black Widow and the recollections that Gin has about her mentor Fletcher continue to show the impact he had on her upbringing. Overall, it is an excellent addition to the Elemental Assassin series. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I'm probably going to change my book for UF but haven't decided on what as of yet. I've got about 5 to choose from. I'm struggling with Thorn Queen and don't want to waste my time...I'll read some more of it before I go to sleep but if I'm still struggling then I'm going to change it. Review:

What can I say??? Wow! So far I'm loving this series. I read Angels' Pawn right before reading this and I really hate that Ashwini & Janvier's story did not continue but there were a few mentions of Ash.

Elena & Raphael...what a great couple. I love the twist of vampires being ruled by angels. I do not want to put any spoilers in by accident so I will just say that I am very impressed with Nalini Singh. She is a new author to me and I'm glad that I finally started this series. I am going back and reading Angels' Dance & Angels' Judgment before continuing to Book 2. I do not want to miss any yummy details in the storyline.

Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #1) by Patricia Briggs
Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs
Finished: 8/31/15
Rating: ♥♥♥♥

The book picks up straight away from Alpha and Omega (which I'm really glad I read before this book) with Anna leaving her Chicago home to move in with Charles in Montana. As Anna is settling in to her new life a big bad comes their way, forcing Charles and Anna to go stop it. As the novel progresses Anna comes to terms with her new relationship with Charles and grows in self-worth and self-acceptance.

I really enjoyed seeing the deeper peek into Bran's home and motives. The Mercy Thompson books always left me with the impression of a Papa Smurf figure, omniscient and gentle (to a degree). This series rips that idea away to reveal Bran's true nature: while altruistic and powerful, he is also teetering on the brink of violence and civility. Other characters and their motives are introduced, creating a fully immersible world.
