Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments For those of us in for the Stephen King double feature, which one is everyone planning on reading first? Should we split up, so some start with Carrie first and some start with The Shining first? That way people who aren't planning on reading both have people to discuss with.

Stefani - SpelingExpirt (speling_expirt) | 585 comments October works for me for Fault in our Stars. I have put it on reserve at the library but it looks like it will be a while so I'll check out the ebook.

message 53: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Awesome, Stefani! I started it today. I've only completed the first chapter, so I can't really say how I like it until I get further in. :)

message 54: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments October sounds great!

message 55: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat | 2365 comments I have posted all the threads for the October buddy reads. There are five buddy reads this month. They are:

The Emperor of All Maladies
Carrie
The Shining
Fatherland
The Fault in Our Stars

If I've missed any please just let me know and I'll get them added for you.

Stefani - SpelingExpirt (speling_expirt) | 585 comments I'd love to read that Craig, I've been meaning to get round to that series for a while. I'd probably have to do it across both months with NaNo in November.

message 57: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Oh, I've been meaning to read that FOREVER. I'm in. Two months sounds good.

message 58: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat | 2365 comments Consider The Eye of the World added to the schedule.

message 59: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (liannevanroekel) | 245 comments Maybe I'll join you on The Eye of the World! Will have to see how I'm doing with all my challenges though and I'm not sure if I want to start another massive fantasy series (next to A Song of Ice and Fire and The Dark Tower).

Adriana | 3888 comments Jodi wrote: "For those of us in for the Stephen King double feature, which one is everyone planning on reading first? Should we split up, so some start with Carrie first and some start with The Shining first? T..."

I'm starting with The Shining because it's the one I have on me. I think it would be inevitably split up depending on what the person wants to start first.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 773 comments I've already read the prequel plus the first 8 Wheel of Time books, so those of you reading The Eye of the World should enjoy it. If anyone wants to read Winter's Heart, I'll probably get to that in November or December.

message 62: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments Anyone want to read A Storm of Swords with me. It is a long book so I was thinking over November and December.

message 63: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments Yay, Craig. I want to get that book read.

message 64: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (liannevanroekel) | 245 comments Storm of Swords is the best one of the first three in my opinion. I loved it and I'm sure you'll enjoy it! Maybe we can keep reading the rest of the series as a buddy read as well? I'd like to read A Feast For Crows in the first half of next year.

message 65: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat | 2365 comments So shall I put A Storm of Swords down for Nov/Dec?

Thanks Jodi. It's now been added.

Stefani - SpelingExpirt (speling_expirt) | 585 comments If I can get through book 2 by then I'll be joining you for A Storm of Swords.

I love these buddy reads.

Get through it! Get through it! I need help getting back to the book. I love it but I put it down and need someone to make me pick it up again.

message 70: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat | 2365 comments Is anyone interested in reading Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts next year? I'm looking at reading it over a two month period so perhaps January and February.

message 72: by Karina (new)

Karina (karinargh) | 807 comments I just acquired a lovely, illustrated copy of The Art of War. I think someone in the old buddy reads thread mentioned it - still any interest, for January maybe?

message 73: by Alison (last edited Oct 25, 2013 02:09PM) (new)

Alison G. (agriff22) | 1188 comments Jodi wrote: "Anyone want to read A Storm of Swords with me. It is a long book so I was thinking over November and December."

Jodi- Ill get Clash of Kings done and I can start on Storm of Swords! It might be the middle of November before I get it done, but I'll work on it! Count me in for that one sometime in the next 2 months. Once I get to the Red Wedding part I KNOW it will go fast!!

message 74: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments I am so glad Alison! I have heard it is the best out of the first three books. I was supposed to read it with a friend of mine in the summer but had too many other reads. I really want to get it done. You just let me know when you are ready to start.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 773 comments I've read the first 8 books, plus a prequel, of The Wheel of Time. Next on my TBR for this series is Book 9, Winter's Heart. I hope you all enjoy the beginning of the series!

message 76: by [deleted user] (new)

Karina, I'll join you for The Art of War in January. I'll also join in for A Storm of Swords and The Eye of the World. I've been in a reading slump lately, so I'm looking forward to some good reads next month!

message 77: by A. (new)

A. Talbert | 2 comments If I can remember to pick up a copy, I would love to read The Art of War.

Zara's Retreat | 2365 comments I have added The Art of War to January's buddy reads.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 773 comments FYI - The Art of War by Sun Tzu is available as a free eBook on iTunes.

message 81: by Brian (new)

Brian (brianfinn) | 638 comments I think I'll join you guys for The Art of War in January. I'm pretty sure my dad owns a copy I can borrow.

message 82: by Zara's Retreat (new)

That is shocking Ashley. I bought mine at Costco for cheap, cheap in October. I have seen it even at Safeway lately.

message 86: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments I am thinking of reading The Black Dahlia (L.A. Quartet, #1) by James Ellroy in December if anyone wants to join me. I am also thinking of The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien . Let me know if you are interested.

Zara's Retreat | 2365 comments Ashley wrote: "Would anyone like to read The Girl Who Played with Fire or Girl in Translation?"

I have added The Shinning to the Dec/Jan schedule.

Hi Ashley. I would be willing to read Girl in Translation but it would need to be February or March. Would that be too late for you?

message 94: by Ashlee (new)

Ashlee (Ajax) (whoisajax) | 125 comments Ashleigh wrote: "Ashlee and Craig I'd also like to read The Shining for December/January!"

Woops I just finished it def happy to be in the discussions though as it was an amazing book :D:D:D

message 95: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat | 2365 comments Theresa, how are you going with Middlemarch? I'm finding it slow going personally. Do we want to continue with it in January?

Brianna, I have added Fall of Giants to the February schedule. I read this book last year and really enjoyed it.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 773 comments Zara, I've been busy with so many other books that I haven't gotten to Middlemarch yet. Do you want to table it until later?

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 773 comments By the way, I've read Fall of Giants and Winter of the World, too. Ken Follett is working on Edge of Eternity, the third volume of his Century Trilogy. I look forward to its publication in September 2014. I hope those who read Fall of Giants like it as much as I did.

message 98: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments Can't wait for Fall of Giants. I loved Pillars of the Earth and World Without End.
