This book was my favorite in the series so far. I like action fast paced books and Butcher always delivers on that end. Loved the fairies court and Harry's role in all of it.
Morgan continues to give Harry a difficult time I 'm looking forward to seeing how he gets in trouble and comes to Harry for help in later books ( yes I peeked a tiny bit!)
I particulary liked the Gatekeeper. I 'm looking forward to seeing what progresses with the council. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 1-3

(view spoiler)[ It started right away with some action and not an explanation of who and what he is which I was very happy about.

He did a much better job with explaining through the situations in the book vs Harry talking to the reader (which I never like when a reader does it even if the books can be read out of sequence).

I like that we are learning more about the characters that were introduced in the other books.


I’m glad Harry is working on something for Susan since the last book.

I’m really excited to see what is going to happen at the White Council Meeting. I hope we meet some cool women characters since we lost one of the goods for now.


I like the new case that Billy got for Harry I love learning about faeries and all the ways they are so bad but irresistible. (hide spoiler)]


I already like this one more than the other three so I will probably be able to finish pretty fast but I can slow down.

Completely agree with your thoughts Laura. Definitely the best book by far.

(view spoiler)[ I also loved the gatekeeper character and hope we get to see more of him as well as the rest of the white council as the war continues between the vampires and Harry.


I also want to see how he is going to get another piece of the unraveling blanket so he can fix Susan and then I want to see her and Elaine come back and he has to choose between them. I love a good love triangle when warranted.

I think I 'd rather see him with Murphy! I don't mind a good love triangle either. I didn't really care for Elaine. Though I am interested in seeing how everything with Susan plays out.

Oh boy, the first chapter is off to a great start. Harry always finds himself in impossible situations. I wonder if the agreement with the vampire can be trusted? ha, I can't wait to see what the Padre wants from Harry! (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 1-5

(view spoiler)[ Yes, it starts off really good. We already get Susan back and the story with the Padre is going to make this one really exciting.


We meet a new character, Butters, who knows a little about the things in Harry’s world and I think I like him so hopefully he becomes a fixture in the next books.


I like how we are going to see Marcone in this book so it looks like Harry’s going to be fighting off a few different things at once.


I’m interested to see how he is going to win the duel or figure out a way around having it. We know if it happens he obviously will win since there are lots more books in the series 😉 (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[It had the Knights of the Cross, the Vampires and some really bad demons. It was the first book where I laughed out loud at Harry’s jokes because they really worked in this book.


Him and Susan broke up so there were also tears but they left it where they could possibly be a future for them later on.


I really like the Knights of the Cross and I hope we don’t have to wait long before we see them again. I was really sad about Shiro and it should be interesting how Harry will pick a the new Knight.

Really enjoyed this one. Shiro was sad, Susan leaving was sad. I agree. Though all and all it was awesome. I did like the 2nd half of the book more than the 1st half. I can't wait to start the next one!

It came as no surprise that Thomas is Harry's half brother. Ebenezer was a bit of a surprise. I wonder if Harry and him will repair their now strained relationship. Loving this series!

(view spoiler)[ I was surprised but not too surprised about Thomas. I completely agree about Ebenezar and all that he told Harry and his real job for the council and about training Harry’s mother.

I really like Kincaid and learning that he was something other. I think you might get your wish about Harry and Murphy even though I kinda like the idea of her and Kincaid.

I also liked Murphy’s mom and how we now know she has some other in her that should be interesting to find out.

The way Harry figures things out is definitely growing on me as well as his sense of humor. (hide spoiler)]

I’m about halfway through and I am at the part where I won’t be able to stop until I finish.

(view spoiler)[ I like that Thomas is still living with Harry that adds an interesting dynamic to Harry’s life.

I like how Murphy got away with Kincaid which is making Harry question his relationship with her.

I love how Mouse is now huge and is able to help Harry when needed.

Butters is a slight disappointment I was hoping he’d grow a pair but right now it hasn’t happened. I’m still holding on to a little hope it will happen before the end.

I can’t wait to see how Harry is going to stop everyone from getting the power and still keep his word to Mavra to keep Murphy out of trouble. (hide spoiler)]

Ha, Butters is not my favorite character and I agree is a bit of disappointment.

This one was good too, though I was hoping for more Murphy in this book. Since Harry is questioning his relationship with Murphy I wonder what that means for them in the next few books?

Will they rebuild the council? Is there going to be a council with that few members? What do you think of Harry's promotion on the council?
Butcher's fight scenes are pretty cool!

(view spoiler)[ I like how Butters came through in the end. It should be very interesting how the council gets rebuilt and how much time we are going to see Harry so Warden type cases with Ramirez. Again, I like the way Butcher introduced the new characters and explained how they fit to the main storyline.

I also agree he has a way with a scene and how he gets Harry out alive if not in one piece. I’m very interested to see what is going to happen with Lasciel.

Murphy and him are going to stay the same for now. I think it’s too soon for them to talk about a relationship now. Even though this wasn’t my favorite it was a good addition to the series. (hide spoiler)]

Oh, boy got to say this is a sloooow start.
I'm not sure what I think of Thomas moving out. I do wonder what he is hiding from Harry.
I think Michael's daughter is going to get in a bit more trouble before this book is finished! Intereting that Mouse's first encounter with her was weird but not the 2nd one. Tiny bit disappointed that Murphy and Harry didn't go anywhere yet.

I already like where this one is headed since I’m a fan of the faery world so I’m excited to see them back.

(view spoiler)[ I agree with you about the start kinda reminded me of the first few books.

I loved that the faeries were back in this book. I just love how Jim has written them.

You were right about Molly. It should be very interesting how it goes with her being his apprentice. There will probably be a few more attempts by her to seduce him that will fail as they should.

I love how Michael knew about the coin and what Harry had done to make sure his baby didn’t pick it up. I love how he also came to the rescue right on time.

The Merlin is going to hate Harry so much for how that council meeting went down.

It should be very interesting to see who the traitor is and I’ve had a feeling about there being something out there that’s been pulling the strings. I like how Harry gave it a name.

I always thought it was his ex-girlfriend from the days he was with Justin trying to ruin Harry’s life for leaving her and not looking back. I think she may be on this Black Council. (hide spoiler)]

I think have to take a break from them to work out all the challenges I’m doing this month. I should be good to start the next one at the end of the month or early March.

I loved the 2nd half of this book much more than the 1st half.
Unfortunately, early on I took a peek at one of the later books.... so I ' m pretty sure I know who the traitor is. Why, do I peek? lol I hate ruining it for myself!

I was a little sad when Mouse was injured and Harry thought he was a goner. I loved later on in the book when he realized Mouse was ok! Still disappointed nothing between Harry and Murphy. I like Harry and Thomas' bond. Thomas certainly pulled through for him in this book. I have to admit Thomas is one of my favorites.
Harry continues to be a pawn in everyone else's game. The Summer Queen could have gotten him and everyone else killed!

Definitely going to be consequences with the Merlin. I 'm looking forward to seeing how that plays out.

I didn't think much of Charity throughout the books so far but I certainly came to like her a bit more after reading this book and seeing why she was so against Harry. Her fight scenes were awesome!! I think Molly 's character needs to grow on me, I don't have much use for her right now! I agree, it was cool how Micheal already knew about the coin and Lasiel. The scenes with Lasiel are kinda neat.
Do you think Harry will take all the power eventually? I feel like there is so much room in this series for Harry either to go to the dark side or grow more as a wizard ( knowledge and power) and take Merlin's position.

I 'm super happy to wait until March to pick the series back up again! I can't make a dent in my library stack at all.

I agree about Molly but I do like the young warden guy his name escapes me right now and I think him and Molly will become a thing.

I’m really curious about what Thomas’ job is.

I agree I think he will push it to the limits the fight Harry will go through to fight the evil but I think it will be him outsmarting her.

Sorry Alissa, I might be a little further ahead then you wanted. I spent the day at emergency and read half the book. My son was in a car accident yesterday. Dr. said that he was good, bruised ribs. He is so lucky to be alive. Scary! Hope neither of us have to go through that again.

This one starts off with a bit more action than the last book. I'm still not a huge fan of Molly's. Maybe she will grow on me.
Murphy's demotion sucks. I 'm still liking the interaction between Murphy and Harry but I wish there was a little more romance.
I love the magic in Dresden's books. Little Chicago is really cool, Harry's new shield, the wards set up to protect all really neat! We are learning a bit more about Mouse's talents!

Phew! I was really hoping Thomas was not involved. Not sure what I think about Elaine's return. I wonder if she is going to play a more prominent role in the books after this one because of her abilities?

I think there is a rat on the Council. Unfortunately, I spoilered that for myself when I was reading book 1.

I loved this one. I'm not sure if its because its been a while for a Harry read or if its because I loved the political power play happening in this book. Add Thomas and Mouse to the mix and I'm a goner.
I liked Carlos in this book. His power is quite different from Harry's. I think we can eliminate him from the sneaky leak on the council? I'm still not a fan of Molly but I did like how she grew in this book. Her invisibility power is very cool!
I really liked Harry in this book as he dealt with the political power play and his role in it. Favorite bad guy goes to Marcone! I'm wondering if we will see Lash again?

I'm looking forward to the next book. It will be a few weeks before I get to the next book. I have a few buddy reads, BOM's and my own library books to power through. (hide spoiler)]
