September: Challenges Within a Challenge
Your Team just needs to select books from the sub-options in the Book a Day Keeps the Boredom at Bay Reading Challenge. How many books you read is determined by your goal.Below is an example of a category's sub-options restrictions. The example we use is for Category #4 from the challenge:
4 – 4th of July is Independence Day. Read a book with a red, white and blue cover, or that is set on the US, or has the US flag on the cover. Or read a book where the main character is fighting for his independence or for some greater good.
Example of a Category's Sub-options Restrictions
Two (2) books per Book A Day Challenge sub-option. Using Category #4 as an example we have two (2) books with a red/blue/white cover, two (2) books set on the US, two (2) books with the US flag on the cover. Or two (2) books where the main character is fighting for his independence or for some greater good.
So here is the breakdown of our challenge as discussed so far:
1. A Book A Day Keeps the Boredom at Bay Reading
(Note we do NOT have to actually read a book a day. We just need to read books that fulfill the sub-categories listed there)
2.A-Z Challenge:
Title Challenge: Read the Alphabet
3.Other Challenge
New 2 U Author Challenge
-Note:can't use sequels and authors they've already read.

Please let us know if you have any suggestions about this challenge and if you are going to participate.
We need to know whose participating so we can calculate how many books we need to read as a team :)
Here is the thread where the Mods have answered many many questions and have added examples:

GOALS
The Mods have calculate how many book each person needs to read in September to win more book advantage points. Please look at these and decide if you'd like to participate in this month's challenge.
Note: This is a TEAM challenge, so we will add up each individuals goal and make a team goal. Then, as a team we just need to hit those goals (so there is some wiggle room in your goal for the month). That way we work as a team to get the total goal met :)
Books read = 67
Participants
Rebecca - 7
NancyHelen - 2
Nancy - 9
Christal - 9
Lara - 23
Vikki - 8
Wendelin - 9
Goal Total for 5 BAP = 41 books
Goal Total for 7 BAP = 48 books
Goal Total for 9 BAP = 56 books
I'll be involved, Rebecca. I'm pretty confident I can make the number I need and definitely help on some others too.
I'll join too. I think I should be able to get a bunch of books in next month. This month is difficult due to a lot of semester start preparations and meetings. Plus, there will be Labor Day--with an extra reading day. Yea!
Yay!! I think this will be a good challenge. It seems like the only book "requirements" are that we read 1/3 of our books for the "Book A Day" challenge, then the rest can be filled in between the other challenges.
It seems like people are leaning towards doing the "New 2 U Author" challenge has the 3rd challenge (let me know if I'm wrong). I think that'll be a good challenge and pretty broad. Just keep in mind it must be NEW authors ;) (so no series books in here).
It's definitely the one I would prefer, Rebecca. I am sure I can find a stack of new authors to read.
Awesome! I'll update the challenge now :)Feel free to start planning out your books (if you want to) on the spreadsheet. There is a tab for each of the 3 categories.
I'll sign up for this! I haven't been reading much...my apologies to our team! Work & family kept me busy this summer. More so than usual! lol But, I've noticed in the past I get more reading done in the cooler months.
Just to clarify, we are still including books that have been started earlier, but are finished in Sept--including the New 2 U authors? I have a few that I need some external motivation to finish...
Yup Lara, they just need to have to be finished and have "read" date in september. Hopefully this motivates you to finish those books ;)Tricia - I feel the same way. Summer is so busy! I have been away almost every weekend this summer.
Yea! Now it will be a bit easier to reach my goal. I have a LOT of books I'm in the middle of. Many are not new to me, but may fit other categories.
I'm in as well... Like the sound of the new to you challenge as well. I've a few books that would fit in there.

I really liked Divergent and thought it was such an interesting way to set up the city with factions. And it was a really quick read.
It looks like we're doing pretty well so far. I just added a book to the Book a Day page, and will work on my New to me authors next.
As of today, we have read a total of 20 books! Which is awesome for just 13 days. This means we are only 21 books away from getting 5 BAP and a few more books to get even more BAPs! Woohoo way to go everyone :)

Goal: Total number of your “Team within a Team” participants will need to read a percent of their total goal to earn Book Advantage Points (BAPs). The breakdown is as follows:
9.9% = 4 BAP
8.33 to 9.8% = 2 BAP
7 to 8.2 = 1 BAP
Rules: Your Team must have a minimum of one-third (1/3) of your books from the first challenge, A Book a Day Keeps the Boredom at Bay Reading Challenge. You may then choose the rest, in any percent each of the next two NBRC challenges you choose.
• We will allow members to “double up” on days for the A Book a Day Keeps the Boredom at Bay Reading Challenge; however, not for the A-Z challenge, nor any Spell-It-Out. Of course, if you spell T.I.G.E.R. and C.A.T. (using two "T"s., that is acceptable).
• There must be at least one book in the remaining two challenges, unless you have met your goal in the first challenge.
• Yes, your Team may have only one participant.
• If one member wants to read more to make up another member’s percent, that is fine.
• You do NOT need to complete the selected challenges; just fit your books to the three you choose.
• To give you an advantage, we will round down instead of up to determine the number of books you read.
• Any Team participant at 70% or higher of her (or his) yearly ‘target goal by the August 18th Sunday Update will be considered an ‘outlier’ and will have their goal adjusted for the September BAP Challenge to below 70%. (Remember, this is based on the TTRC ending April 11, 2014. To be ‘on target’ on that day, a Team or participant would be at 35%.)
• Someone who has had the summer off and is returning to school, has a new job, or has a special event planned in September, etc., may ask for special consideration of their goal.
