Yeah the little bit where June was googly eyed was annoying, but maybe that was part of her coping with her brother's death? Just wanting to feel the feeling that someone cared for her or something? Lu has a real gift for writing naturally, and still building great dystopia. Even little things like use of the term "cousin" as a familiar, although I'm not sure what the "salute toward the capitol" is -- it has a heil, Hitler feel to it.

I love the dual perspective and the fact that so far the title could mean either or both of our MCs. I also really like that both our teens are "special" but they've both earned it, so to speak.

Day is kind of awesome. I've always appreciated MCs that are clever enough to outwit their opponents. I'm a little surprised he (view spoiler)[talked at the bank to June, but I thought it was cool he rewired the speakers. (hide spoiler)]

I also thought it was kind of neat that Day mentioned June in passing as a kid that make a perfect score and then she shows up as the next MC, and that none of the wanted posters can really show what Day looks like -- just details I thought were neat. And in my book, the two characters voices are printed in different fonts and colors, which helps keep them straight if I miss a chapter title.

Legendary soldier. Legendary criminal. We're off to a good start here.

Honestly, I think that Day is awesome (Love that name btw) All the crazy stuff he gets into and how well he works at hurting the government I have it hard to believe that he doesn't ever do things for other rebel groups or that other "rebels" don't know who he is. I feel like there should be like a network of ways to get in contact with them

I like this book so far. There have just been some little problems in logic for me so far. Starting off with how June figured out he was Day really bothered me. The first guy you meet on the street who has some skills (that it seems you learn on the street) and she straight away is like, interesting I will stick with this person to see what's up. And then when he is going to sleep she see's what? He try and grab something around his neck, news flash June many people have special necklaces that they touch to calm themselves, while suspicious, how could she have known then that he was Day. And last thing I have a problem with right now, when he was being wheeled down the hall in the hospital he see's a little red number by a open door looks in and see's a body covered with a x on it, and somehow from that he adds the other numbers he has seen around and is like "Aha they must be creating the plagues themselves!" And I am just like, how can you get to that conclusion with the little bit of information you have from walking around. I see what Marie is trying to do, maybe connecting the numbers to a specific area with a specific plague mutation but that is stretching it for him to figure that out so fast.

Still like the book but still has some logic problems for me.

This post is going to be focused on what has happened sense Day was captured and taken into custody. Starting things off, what happened with the protesters in the square... the government would be condemned for this they would have rioting in the streets, other countries would be pissed at them, I know this is a post apocalyptic book but you can't just kill hundred protesters and not have a uprising on your hands and other countries should stop trading with you. Moving on to when June learned the truth about her parents death and the her brothers death. Ok, this seems very convenient. If the government had your parents killed they would have not left a document on the internet saying "Hey we killed your parents" just sitting around to be viewed. There is my ranting done for now.

(view spoiler)[ Ok, I started Prodigy and some little things are already bothering my brain. You did all this work to break Day out of his execution and then afterwards your like alright peace out? They said it themselves that the 200k was pocket change for them and then they used the bomb to break him out so really what did they have to gain for just letting him off, they should have taken him with them and made him a Patriot, this was just a waste of resources really. Just had to lead of with that, been bothering me since the end of the last book. (hide spoiler)]

Finished Part One

Lu is such a master of action-packed work. I can hardly believe I've only read 25% more of the book. So much has happened it feels like ages ago since I last posted. She's such an easy writer to read.

Where to begin...

Raghad, thank you for catching this. I completely missed that (view spoiler)[Day's knife hit Metias in the shoulder, but the dagger was sticking out of his chest when June saw the body. You must be right; Day couldn't have killed him. I'm wracking my brain to figure out who did but I'm coming up dry at the moment. Probably Thomas although that will be disappointing. June is going to feel really bad when she figures out that she cost Day his mother and he didn't kill her brother after all. (hide spoiler)]

And Aaron, I very much agree with your assessment of (view spoiler)[the way June identified Day and the "evidence" she used. Pretty sketchy. Of course, I've had some problem with her being a little bit too superhuman, honestly. She managed to fool him into thinking she was asleep, not actually fall asleep, sneak out after him without him noticing, follow him, keep up with him, in the dark, after a major injury... Not really buying all that to be honest. She's a little too perfect. Maybe she's a robot in disguise. (hide spoiler)]

The scene with (view spoiler)[Day's mother getting shot was pretty heartbreaking... one that will probably stay in my head longer than I want it to. I was hoping he'd have sense not to get involved because there really isn't anything he can do. And I will admit that both of them being drop dead gorgeous was a little annoying. Could we please have normal looking MCs once in a while? (hide spoiler)]

Flaws aside, I'm quite enjoying the read. Not quite as good as Warcross, but very fun.
