If remade into another movie, heaven forbid, who do you think would play Rhett Butler?

It's fun to think about who would be good in a remake, but I seriously hope this NEVER happens. A remake would pale in comparison. (I agree that Clooney could pull off a good Rhett....How about Reese Witherspoon for Melanie?)

Emily Blunt as Scarlett (Alexis Bledel looks the part but is not that great an actress.)Jared Leto or Joseph Fiennes for Rhett.
But, really, who are we kidding? It would be like trying to catch lightning in a bottle to recreate anything close to the original.
Rhett Butler - George ClooneyAshley Wilkes - Michael Fassbender
Scarlett O'Hara - Jennifer Lawrence
Mammy - Octavia Spencer
Melanie Wilkes - Ann Hathaway

I first thought of Johnny Depp also.
Richard Armitage or Hugh Jackman as Rhett Butler for me. For the life of me, i can't think of a 20-something actress that could hold a candle to Vivien Leigh's Scarlett.
mmmmhhh I find so difficult to think of replacements for the originals...I think I'd cast Michael Fassbender as Rhett and Scarlett Johansson as Scarlett or pehaps Emma Stone... but still especially for teh SCarlett role, I can't really think of someone who could be up to Vivien Leigh...
Yeah Henry Cavill would be good as Rhett
and Elisha Cuthbert as Scarlett
I think so.

I think so.

Oh, yes I didn't think of Henry Cavil, but yes, I'd like that too! :)
mmmhh do not like so much...she's too obviously beautuful to be Scarlett...Scarlett was more charming than outright beautiful, I'd like someone more intriguing.
How about Salma Hayek or Emily Blunt??
I kind of think their face has that kind of boldness required for Scarlett

Hey, Emily Blunt!! I hadn't thought of her but yes, could be...Salma Hayek too dark and definetly too much aware of herself as a grown woman...Scarlett is a spoilt girl and her problem is that she refuses to grow up even when life forces her into it. She must endure the loss of everything including le love of her life to grow up. I love Salma Hayek, she's beautiful and talented as actress, but I can't see her as Scarlett.
George CLooney, Johnny Depp, either would be good.Even perhaps Liam Neeson, I'm sure he can do a southern accent. I'll have to think about who would play Scarlet, and Melaney
Elisha Cuthbert, she is an actress. I liked her. She could play the role of Scarlett
Elisha Cuthbert played the daughter in the TV series 24, and then she was in some sitcom that was canceled.
Matthew MacFadyen?? If he made me love a Darcy other than Collin Firth, he might could make me love a different Rhett too:)Robert Downey Jr?? As IronMan he's kinda got the right type of swagger for Rhett.
George Clooney is absolutely perfect...he has the handsome face with the dark features and the masculinity needed! No one else will do!
Patrick Dempsey, George Clooney have the charm.Liam Neeson has the manliness!
Brad Pitt - not!! Way too pretty.

Trixie wrote: "I'd like to see Brad Pitt - he's older and would fit the role well. (I adore Hugh, but cannot see him as Rhett.)"Brad Pitt? no way...he's not man enough
Meghan wrote: "Nobody! Clark Gable was it. He IS (not was) Rhett Butler. Anyone else would be a terrible substitute."AMEN

If I had to pick my pick would be.. Josh Brolin (Josh's father James actually played Clark in "Gable and Lombard" in 1976 --And he fit perfectly!)Plus Rhett was actually a bit older then Scarlett.. Then my choice for Scarlett would have to be Natalie Portman. Natalie has the features of Vivian and can pull off the young girl scarlett was.
Oleander wrote: "My choice would be Karl Urban He played Bones in the latest Star Trek movies. He's got the southern accent and right look"
I'm with you. He is hot and has the right complexion for Rhett. The only other person I could think of would be Garrett Hedlund...he would be a great Ashley because he had the moody temperament and because he is so sexy, you could better understand Scarletts dilemma. Reese Witherspoon would be a great Melanie. I know alot of people think Mila Kunas would be a good Scarlett but I just don't think she could pull it off. She has sex appeal but she doesn't have the deep sex appeal that Scarlett is supposed to have, only Vivian Leigh had that.
Kunis has sex appeal. She does not have charisma.
Perhaps the only viable way to do it would be to cast actors who are very different from the originals.
I'm still stuck on Hugh Jackman. He's 46, 6'2 and he can do the lip curl lol (can't go without that lip curl). He can play charming and he can play tough.http://www.imdb.com/media/rm382438144...
I also can't get Rachel McAdams out of my head as Scarlet. She's a little old to play a 16 year old (36) but Hollywood usually gets 30 year olds to do that anyways and she's quite young looking. She's got the long typish face and I can totally picture her going "fiddle dee dee" lol.
I love both their acting, I could see them doing well with it and picturing them both together looks pretty dang good too.

Someone mentioned Emily Blunt, I really like her as Emily.
I haven't quite thought out Ashley yet....
Vivien Leigh was twenty-eight when she played sixteen year old Scarlett, and we've far better film tricks now than they had back then.
Trixie wrote: "I'd like to see Brad Pitt - he's older and would fit the role well. (I adore Hugh, but cannot see him as Rhett.)"I agree completely. Can't see George Clooney at all. Could almost see Johnny Depp, but he's too quirky for this one. It's gotta be Brad!

She isn't the only starlet in the world with sex appeal. I just don't feel that she is a good actor. There just has to be someone more fitting than her.
I'd go for Michael Fassbender. He has that amount of masculinity, he's very confident, sometimes intimidating (if he wants) and very charming.
Well, as much as Clark Gable is Rhett to me, as Vivian Leigh is Scarlett. Joann Whaley-Kilmer and Timothy Dalton TRIED... but, no, didn't work for me... The ONLY man with enough swagger is Bruce Campbell.
I just don't see how anyone could carry off the role better than Rhett Butler OR Vivian Leigh. I shudder to picture it. Most of these suggestions, especially for Scarlett, I couldn't disagree more with. They cast it perfectly the first time - here's hoping it's never remade. Sometimes I'm surprised it hasn't been considering the remake climate these days.
