If remade into another movie, heaven forbid, who do you think would play Rhett Butler?

I saw a discussion as to who would play Scarlett O'Hara if the movie were to be remade- so how about a similar discussion- who do you think would play Rhett Butler?

First off, did you just copy and paste what I wrote about Scarlett for the title of this discussion? Anyways, I think that that Hugh Jackman would be good, and I guess so would Bradley Cooper. I'm not entirely sure someone could pull off the amount of masculinity Clark Gable put into Rhett Butler, so I can't really think of anyone who could pull it all off.

When I first saw the movie I thought Clark Gable looked middle-aged, much older than how I imagined Rhett when I read the book, but he really did a good job acting Rhett. So having seen your discussion about Scarlett, I thought it'd be interesting to see who other people think could be Rhett.
I think Hugh Jackman would be a good choice. Who do you think would be a good actress to play Scarlett?
I'd like to see Brad Pitt - he's older and would fit the role well. (I adore Hugh, but cannot see him as Rhett.)
Nobody! Clark Gable was it. He IS (not was) Rhett Butler. Anyone else would be a terrible substitute.
Oh yes, Clark Gable is Rhett Butler. But would love to see either Huge Jackman or Clive Owen as Rhett if a remade has to be done. I admit I favor Clive Owen. He looks as if he could have had the same life as Rhett.

By the way, what do you guys think about Johnny Depp as Rhett?
Before I saw the movie I kind of pictured Rhett as Johnny when I was reading the book, because Rhett's 'closely clipped mustache' and 'swarthy face' simply reminded me of Johnny Depp.
I was also thinking of Johnny Depp as Rhett. I think Jennifer and Angelina are too old to play Scarlett.

NO, those women would be WAY too old to play Scarlett! Let's keep in mind that Scarlett isn't even 30 at the end of the book, and she's 16 at the start. Think younger, people. I'm mostly seeing the same old names on here, no thought put into it whatsoever.
I could see Anna Kendrick as Scarlett and Karl Urban as Rhett Butler.
Anna Kendrick ? Noooope. The reincarnation of Scarlett (if that were even possible as Vivien Leigh is so ingrained in most older people's memories) needs to be more tempestuous. Mila Kunis in her Black Swan role ?
Avelina wrote: "I was also thinking of Johnny Depp as Rhett. I think Jennifer and Angelina are too old to play Scarlett."I agree they are both too old.

Anna Kendrick looks the part. I haven't seen enough diversity in her acting to know if she could do it though. But yeah, people aren't suggesting young enough people, or tall enough people for Rhett Butler lol.
OOOO I like the idea of Mila Kunis as Scarlett. I think that Gerard Butler would be a perfect Rhett Butler. He was older than Scarlett so it makes sense to have an "older" man play it. Melanie should be played by Olivia Wilde and Ashley should be played by jamie bell or ryan gosling. I must admit I am a long adoring fan of Gone with the Wind. Just as long as whomever was to be recast as Rhett, isn't the monstrously awful rendition that was the made for tv mini series Scarlett: Timothy Dalton.

Brad Pitt is possible, but I'm having trouble shaking Gable's dark coloring. C..."Brad did justice to dark hair in Interview with a Vampire...but he wouldn't do as Rett, nonono
Eww, not George Clooney. He can be Ashley. (haha!)How about Robert Downey Jr.? We've all seen how smooth and cocky he can be in the Iron Man movies.

I could see it, but he's maybe just a LITTLE too old to play Rhett. I think a younger actor who has that same kind of swagger...can anybody think of anyone?
I am warming to the idea of Mila Kunis as Scarlett. She has proven that she can do more than comedy, and she is slight, lovely, and fiesty...okay, I could see it.
How about Mila Kunis as Scarlett and Colin Farrell as Rhett. Ryan Gosling as Ashley and maybe Reese Witherspoon as Melanie.
Alice wrote: "How about Mila Kunis as Scarlett and Colin Farrell as Rhett. Ryan Gosling as Ashley and maybe Reese Witherspoon as Melanie."Yes! I totally agree with all of your choices, they are absolutely perfect!
Someone earlier mentioned Brad Pitt as Rhett, I think Colin Farrell is just the dark-hair version of Brad Pitt (they look so alike) so maybe either him or Johnny Depp could be Rhett Butler.
remake this movie as a zombie or vampire bit with angelina jolie and hugh jackman
they cannot remake this film as a serious movie. of course, i'd go to see it if there are big names involved. but, serious, if you remake it, make it funny and call it a day
What about Robert Downy JR as Rhett? For Scarlett, Jennifer Lawrence? IDK how that would work together.. Maybe Clive Owen and Jennifer Lawrence?
My choice would be Karl Urban
He played Bones in the latest Star Trek movies. He's got the southern accent and right look
Meghan wrote: "Nobody! Clark Gable was it. He IS (not was) Rhett Butler. Anyone else would be a terrible substitute."I'm w/ Megan! None Other could pull it off!!

or maybe this.
Gerard Butler was my first thought as a good Rhett Butler but I don't know if that was because I really thought that or because they have the same last name and made the connect. Although Gerard does fit the characteristics of Capt. Butler: older, confident, sexy, cocky and not so much old its a turn off to the younger crowd. As for Scarlett it needs to be someone who is younger (scarlett was actually 20 yrs younger in the books if I remember correctly) maybe perhaps Keira Knightly?
