Finished yesterday Amy Clipston,  A Gift of Grace.
Didn't like it that much; I was hoping for a more deep analysis of the Amish world, culture and religion. This is nothing more than a light YA

Leslie | 16369 comments I finished listening to the audiobook of Mary Poppins - it surprised me by the many differences from the Disney musical version!

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments Leslie, P.L. Travers, author of the book, was very negative about the Disney version of the story.

*The novels were loved by Disney's daughters when they were children, and Disney had spent 20 years trying to purchase the film rights to Mary Poppins, which included visits to Travers at her home in London. In 1961, Travers arrived in Los Angeles on a flight from London, her first-class ticket having been paid for by Disney, and he finally succeeded in purchasing the rights. Travers was an adviser in the production, but she disapproved of the Poppins character in its Disney version, with harsher aspects diluted; she felt ambivalent about the music; and she so hated the use of animation that she ruled out any further adaptations of the series.* (*-*) cited from Wikipedia

I knew something about that from the film Saving Mr. Banks but was still surprised that all of the events in the movie happened in the first few chapters.

Just caught the last part of a film about this, shown on TV here. Interesting article here about Travers and the background to this film - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/films/0/saving-mr-banks-true-story-walt-disneys-battle-make-mary-poppins/.

Haha, the mustache dook look a bit bizarre Amalia!! I loved the book, and all of the Suchet Poirot movies/episodes are a lot of fun. I'll probably watch the new movie just to see what they do with it, but I don't blame you for sticking to Ustinov & Suchet. :)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments Amaila, it's the Suchet version or nothing for me; afterall, Suchet is Poirot.

Bette and Amalia, I do love Suchet's Poirot. All of his many movies and episodes are like a comfort food for me. :)
