PattyMacDotComma Great new favourite book in my favourite genre (short stories) is Caitlin Hamilton Summie's To Lay To Rest Our Ghosts, a collection of stories, often inter-connected like those of Pulitzer prize-winning author Elizabeth Strout.

I've finished a nice historic book in Italian only - Terre selvagge by Sebastiano Vassalli - on a war the Romans won against the Cimbri, and A Cotswold Killing by Rebecca Tope that, to be honest, has been a bit of a disappointment: it was so much recomended I expectied it to be awsome, but it is, on the other hand, quite
a "normal" mystery.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I just finished The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See for my new f2f book group. There are 9 women and for some of them this is their first experience bring in a book group. I led the discussion which was quite lively. This book was good but as someone said not great.

Petra | 3324 comments I finished The Song Poet: A Memoir of My Father last week, then left town for a short vacation, then wrote the review. My initial thoughts and feelings are still the same but the initial flood of words is gone, so my review is lackluster.
I found this a truly touching story of the immigrant experience. The isolation and loss are apparent throughout the pages.

Argh! Computer problems are so frustrating.
My DD was doing homework on my laptop when the hard-drive gave out. She was distraught because she thought it was her fault (it wasn't) and I lost a year's worth of photos including an old album I had scanned, binned but forgot to back-up!

I sympathize totally. Grr. The worst is that computers don't last forever so you know every time you have to change one it will be horrible. Nowadays, computers are something you need; they are not just for fun!

I have been considering The Essex Serpent but just cannot make up my mind. I wouldn't mind some help from people who know me.

PattyMacDotComma Quirky first novel Quiet Until the Thaw by Alexandra Fuller, channelling her 'inner Lakota' to show the plight and humour of the disenfranchised American Indians (as they are always called in the book).

dely | 5214 comments I have finished Fantasmi: Dispacci dalla Cambogia by Tiziano Terzani 5/5

Sadly there isn't an English edition and it is really a pity. The book contains the reportages and articles he wrote from 1970 to 1996 about Cambodia while living there as long as he could or going again to the country after the war of Pol Pot. As usual his is a flowing and easy style, he adds personal considerations and the reader has an excellent description of what was going on in Cambodia before, during and after Pol Pot. There are also some photos.

It is o much easier to write a review when you have just finished it. I am glad you liked it. Do you mean this one - The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir by the same quthor or a book by another? Also it is harder to review books listened to when traveling!
