PattyMacDotComma I Don't Like Reading is a colourful, helpful picture book for explaining to kids (and grown-ups!) what dyslexia looks and feels like.

Chrissie I really did enjoy Come, Tell Me How You Live.

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

It is NOT a crime novel, but instead a memoir and travelogue. It is about the archeological expedition where Agatha Christie accompanied her second husband to excavate tells in northeastern Syria. This was in the 1930s. It is humorous and has a light tone. What I loved best were the people she talks about. Don't get me wrong, it is by no means just silly.

PattyMacDotComma Fascinating! Light and Shadow: Memoirs of a Spy's Son is everything the title promises from smart, popular journalist-broadcaster Mark Colvin. 5★

Dhanaraj Rajan | 2962 comments I read a charming collection of short stories (detective stories) in which the main sleuth is a Catholic priest. Loved the stories. It is G. K. Chesterton's Father Brown Stories.

Gill | 5719 comments Nearly 6 months down the line I have actually at last finished The Book of Disquiet.
As you may guess from the time scale, the book didn't appeal to me much at all.

Suzanne could you stop by and tell me what you think? Which one are you going to read first? Burial Rites was my favorite. I would say start there. I have warned you that they are dark, so I hope you can deal with that.

dely | 5214 comments Finally I finished reading The Perennial Philosophy by Aldous Huxley.
I rated it only with 3 stars because it was really difficult, both the style and the language. But despite this I would recommend it to people who are interested in the philosophical and spiritual side of religions.

The stories are in of my category of 'classics I should probably read but am not sure about' :0)
But I have started watching the BBC adaptation and find them gentle fun.

message 11224: by Dhanaraj (new)

Dhanaraj Rajan | 2962 comments @Esther: I watched just a single adaptation (Hammer of God). It was done really good. Would love to watch the complete episode.

message 11235: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Is there anybody else as distracted as me? So yesterday I wrote my review for Reflections in a Golden Eye. On going to bed a few hours later and having just turned off the computer, I realized I had forgotten to add one important detail!

The second paragraph of my review should have read as follows: "The story is laid up as a mystery. You are told at the beginning that it concerns two officers, two women, a soldier, a Filipino and a horse and that there will be a murder!" That which I have here underlined is what I forgot to mention.........

My corrected review :https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I am SO stupid!

Lol, you aren't stupid, it can happen to everyone. Till you don't forget your name and where you live, everything is alright :P

Yesterday I managed to read Pene d'amore di una gatta inglese e altri racconti felini. There isn't an English edition. It's a collection of short stories about cats by famous authors.

3* because some stories were good, other less, but all in all there weren't stories I disliked.

Alice Mc I just finished The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith AKA J.K. Rowling... I have to say I didn't enjoy it much. It really seemed to drag. My (very short) review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 11241: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma Just read Roxane Gay's recent Difficult Women.

Stories, some connected, all difficult to read because of violence, abuse, rape.

Petra | 3324 comments I finished reading In the Memory of the Forest. I really enjoyed the atmospheric way the story unfolded. The murder mystery was really a small part of the whole story but all the stories blended well together, making a good "whole".

I think you might want to check out Symphony for the City of the Dead: Dmitri Shostakovich and the Siege of Leningrad. It is very good.
