Perfect for fans of Maeve Binchy' - Candis

Dear Reader, Guess what? I'm falling in love! With Mack McAfee.

My baby daughter, Noelle, and I have been living next door to Mack since the spring. I'm still a little wary about our relationship, because I haven't always made good decisions when it comes to men. My baby's father, David Rhodes, is testament to that. I'm so worried he might sue for custody.

In the meantime, the World War II letters I found are a wonderful distraction. Both Mack and I are trying to learn what happened to the soldier who wrote them and the woman he loved. Come by sometime for a glass of iced tea and I'll show you the letters.

Plus I'll tell you the latest about Grace and Olivia, my brother Linc and his wife, Lori (who tied the knot about five minutes after they met!), and all our other mutual friends. Oh, and maybe Mack can join us…. Mary Jo Wyse

The Cedar Cove series is now a hit Channel 5 TV series, appearing on UK screens on CHANNEL 5USA

I do love this series. The tenth in a homey setting where all the little day to day happenings are convenient and compact, with LOTS of marriages, LOTS of pregnancies and LOTS of sparkly clean storytelling. Debbie Macomber has this style down pat. You do feel like you are coming home while reading these stories, and 'Cedar Cove' feels like the place that would welcome anyone. This is a simple series that I find myself coming back to time and time again. Worthwhile reading that will put a smile on your face in times when real life is not always so kind. Fiction is kind to us in this way, and this author delivers every time. Characters to love - what's happening with poor Charlottte? Characters to hate - I want to strangle Joelene! A precocious teenager whose father has no idea! I recommend this series to anyone who wants a rest from the hard stuff.

I've read all of this series in order and here's what we've learned about Cedar Cove residents:

1. Everyone is aware that birth control exists. No one is apparently aware that you have to actually use it. A good number of women in town have unplanned pregnancies:

Grace
Corrie
Mary Ellen
Mary Jo
Gloria

Cecilia
Rachel
(although these two got pregnant while married, both had explicitly stated or their husbands had that they were not intending for that to be the case).

2. If you get pregnant and you aren't married to the father, the very best course of action is not to tell him about the baby and just raise it alone, never knowing its father (Mary Ellen and Gloria both thought this was a grand idea).

3. If you meet someone you have a real connection with, you should push him away repeatedly (every woman in town).

4. If someone says they don't want to be with you, you should stalk them until they change their mind (Grace with Cliff, James with Christie).

5. No one ever means it when they say they don't want to be with you. They will always come around if you stalk them long enough and force them to have conversations with you that go nowhere because neither of you can communicate your true feelings (everyone in town, most specifically in this book Mary Jo and Mack, Christie and James).

6. Safeway is where you will always run into the love of your life who you will have an awkward, go nowhere conversation with (see #5).

7. When trying to prove to a woman that she can trust men, that you're not like the guy who broke her heart, you should lie to her (Mack lying about owning the apartment complex).

8. You should do nothing legally at all to deal with the father of your child, even when he's threatened you. Also, you should totally believe that a man with no job, who does not pay child support or see his other child at all, and who owes everyone in the world will have a reasonable shot at getting custody of the child he's taken no interest in at all. (Mary Jo and David).

9. You should totally allow a 13-year-old brat to run your life. (Rachel and Jolene).

10. If you're an old fashioned kind of guy, you shouldn't bother with a real courtship or meeting the parents of the woman you marry. You should marry her after knowing her for two seconds and then be flabbergasted that her parents aren't totally on board.

And one bonus - although both of you work and one of you has enough savings to start his own business, you somehow can't afford to move into your own apartment that you pay for (Lori's father owns the building she lives in with Linc). Somehow you can make all other bills, but not rent on a cheap one-bedroom.

Shallow and trite stories about physcotic, immature women and the nuerotic men who have the hots for them. Old worn out themes of women manipulating men by sex, pregnancy, babies, temper tantrums, lies and childish behavior. The men can be just as bad with the lies they are telling. No one has an adult relationship where they confide in their partner and are straight with them. Some of these women are just mentally ill.
Having babies and then getting married doesn't make everything all wonderful. The problems are still there.

This kind of fantasy story is so damaging to readers who may get the idea that this is the way life is and this is how to act.

1022 Evergeen Place is the tenth full-length novel in the Cedar Cove series by popular US author, Debbie Macomber. Fans of the series will be pleased to once again join this delightful small town community in Washington State. The address is the duplex belonging to Mack McAfee, where Mary Jo Wyse also lives. Mack has been in love with Mary Jo ever since they met at baby Noelle’s birth, but Mary Jo is wary of involvement since David Rhodes abandoned her to her fate.

Mack learns that lying is not the way to build trust. But together, they have also been researching the origin of some World War II letters found under the floorboards. Mary Jo’s brother Linc is newly married to Lori Bellamy, but is having problems convincing her influential father that he is no gold digger. Has Will Jefferson turned over a new leaf? The Gallery owner has been trying to court local artist Shirley Bliss, but he is in for a surprise after he takes her to a showing by artist Larry Knight. Shirley’s daughter Tanni is missing her boyfriend Shaw, but gets some good advice from an unexpected source.

Christie Levitt’s relationship with James Wilbur is still rocky, and Deputy Sheriff Gloria Ashton finds herself irresistibly attracted to Dr Chad Timmons. Corrie and Roy’s desire to become grandparents is fulfilled when they learn of Linnette’s wedding and pregnancy, but another present-day situation opens old wounds, and Roy is determined not to let history repeat itself.

Long-standing characters like Corrie, Peggy, Olivia and Grace bring the reader up to date with events and people as they chat. Rachel Peyton is having difficulty coping with her step-daughter Jolene’s attitude, especially now that she is pregnant, and Bruce seems oblivious to it all. Eventually, the tension builds until the climax that erupts is Bruce’s worst nightmare.

Macomber’s strength is her characters, people the reader will come to care about, and her realistic and occasionally unpredictable plots. Her novels always leave the reader wanting more, and fans will look forward to finding out what happens to the Cedar Cove residents in the next instalment, 1105 Yakima Street.

These books are starting to be really painful to read, so this may be the last in the series I venture into. Story lines are starting to be recycled, and if one more person gets married in less than 6 months, I will throw up. You were good for awhile, Cedar Cove, but all good things must come to an end.

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Featuring: Washington State, Multiple POVs, Recaps, Seattle, Newlyweds, Secrets Trope, Marriage of Convenience, Babies, Love Letters Mystery, Children Reading to Dogs, Family Drama, Sex - Low Details, Magic Timeline, Teens, Adult Children, WWII, Cliffhangers

Rating as a movie: PG-15 for adult content

My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌲

My thoughts: 💿 8% Disc 2 Track 40 Ch. 6 - Love it! So far, every storyline is fantastic, but Christie and James are still going back and forth. I'm so glad I stuck with it.
💿 48% Disc 5 Track 21 Ch. 17 - Wow! I'm really into this one, best one in a minute.
💿 59% Disc 6 Track 14 Ch. 21 - My husband is on my nerves. I'm only stopping to make dinner because he's too good for leftovers. This book has my full attention.
💿 90% Disc 8 Track 92 Ch. 33 - This has gone a little left. I'm going to bed, I was going to stay up and finish but now it's not worth it.

This started great, but the end was annoying. I still gave it 5 stars because I enjoyed it a lot, but Christie and James were still here, and Bruce and Jolene got on my nerves! Rachel is better than me. Roy helped a lot, but then she set my next-to-least favorite dramatic storyline on fire. I was torn between disgust over events and enjoying the flames. The writing style was dated, dangling the carrot at every turn; I was with the characters, spit it out already. Of course, there were cliffhangers. I'm going to go ahead and order the television series as I should be finished with the books by the end of the week.

Recommend to others: Yes! I'm still not mad at myself for putting this one-off but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had discovered it a long time ago.

A cousin gave this and a related Cedar Cove book to me. I read this one. Both are going to the used book store. Meh.
Lots of relationship drama, with too many bossy, arrogant or just nasty males; the other men are typically oblivious to anything that does not directly affect their most urgent desires. Everyone is heterosexual; very few strong, independent women, multiple unwed mothers making bad choices in male partners; manipulation, scheming, worries about what someone else will think, and on and on.
A prettified Peyton Place. (Boomers will get the reference.)
I guess my tastes have evolved from this kind of "romance." I feel the same about some favorite authors from my Harlequin Romance days, many moons ago. They don't hit the same as my worldview has changed. I am too "woke" to go back.

Debbie Macomber is a sure thing!! Romance that is sweet and wholesome with old fashioned values!!
Long courtships, short engagements and 90% secret marriages!!!

Book 10! I still find the whispering the characters do in every single one of these Cedar Cove books so funny! I never whisper when I talk to people; yet everyone who lives in Cedar Cove does at one time or another! 🤪

It is fun to see where the characters are ten years later and how their lives entwine. I do believe these books are written so that any one of them may be picked up and read at any time. For me, I am very glad I have read them in order. I love all of the background that I have as I start a new book.

I think Cedar Cove would be a lovely place to live! 🥰

Time to re-visit Cedar Cove and catch up with all our old friends and some of our newer friends! I was a bit disappointed in the last couple of Cedar Cove books, but this one turned it all around for me. It was like a welcome home for me.

This time around the story focuses on Mary Jo Wyse and Mack McAfee. They both love each other, but have been skirting around telling each other and keeping each other at arm's length. They are brought together through a series of letters Mary Jo finds under the floor boards of her closet (she found them in 92 Pacific Blvd. They tell a story of a soldier during WWII and his love for the girl back home. They both are exciting to solve the mystery of what happened to both the soldier and his girl.

Secondary stories include:

*Shirley and Tanni Bliss. Mother and daughter are both dealing with love issues.

*Christie and James. These two have been going back and forth with each other for years. It is a small story line, but it is nice to follow up with them again.

*The whole McAfee family. They are going through so many changes and Roy and Corrie are having a bit of a hard time keeping up with all their children.

*Rachel, Bruce, and Jolene. Rachel and Jolene still aren't getting along and Bruce seems to just ignore it. More complications set back the family and it seems they just might not be able to hold it together.

I love stepping back into Cedar Cove. Macomber has a way of making all the characters come alive. You may not like all of the characters, but she paints them in a why that you can understand them. They are all real and feel like people you may know in your own life. After 10 plus books, they have become like friends to me.

As usual, the book have vignettes of each character's story and then jumps to the next story. Each time it would happen I would be disappointed, but within a couple of lines I was excited to read about the next character's woes.

I honestly can't say I was all that excited to read about Mack and Mary Jo. They were only so-so to me in the past books. I liked them, but just did not get me all that excited. I was surprised at how quickly I came to like them and care about them. They frustrated me, but I hoped for them to work things out.

My biggest complaint is that it ended and I have to wait until September of 2011 to return to Cedar Cove and catch up with my friends! No, No, No! I wish I could just keep reading about them. I want to know how they are all doing. *sigh* I will just have to wait.

Well written, fast read. An excellent addition to the Cedar Cove series.

I can't tell whether I'm just losing patience 10 books (and two novellas) into this series, but this was THE WORST. Why did it take 3 books to have two characters get married who we knew had ended up together in book one of three? Why is there a totally sexist insistence that one character is evil because he "lets a woman pay his bills/take care of him/etc etc etc"? Why do characters get married with seemingly no motivation at all? Ridiculous. I am going to read the last two books in the series, but it might just kill me.

I love how Debbie McComber has written about the different families in her books. I read Book 11 first as I didn't really look which was the beginning of the series so I know how the ending takes place for Bruce, Rachel & Jolene as Book 11 on Yackamer Street is their Story. Jolene is a single child who grows up without parental guidance & a strong family support foundation, so when Bruce & Rachel announce that they having a baby, Jolene throws a tenper tantrim & makes life extremely difficult for both Bruce & Rachel as a married couple. MaryJoe & Mak are a awsome couple. I love how Mak so easily bonds with Noelle & I loved how MaryJoe & Mak sought out Jacob Deneson. Corri, Mak's mom was out of place to make a cake assuming that her son & MaryJoe were coming to announce their engagement, but also she wanted them to admit & recognise what was so clear to her, that they loved one another & both Mak & MaryJoe were attracted to each other but needed a push in the right direction. It made me smile that Ben Rhodes organised that Jacob Deneson be at their wedding. You don't really think about the war & about DeeDay, so Debbie McComber through a light-hearted way of letters brought an interesting topic arise which makes you wonder how It was at that time & to think of the important tasks each soldier or Paratrooper had to do to stay alive. I also loved how Tammy & Kristen became friends. There is always a story behind everyone's disability, & I'm glad that Tammy & Kristen were able to talk & work things out in order to become friends. The budding romance between Sherley & Larry Knight was very sweet. This book kept my heart light & It certainnly made me smile at certain parts. Sometimes Tammy & Jolene made me think of how I was growing up. I think we all have a selfish, Its all about me side but life & learning how to adapt to things makes us stronger & better people.

What a disappointment this 10th book was. A bunch of women and men too stubborn to admit they’re in love. Women getting pregnant left right and center and all surprised by it???? Have they ever heard of condoms? Or birth control pills? A father letting a bratty teenager rule his life to the point his pregnant second wife feels forced to leave their house. Really? Really? And then the book ending in another cliffhanger. I hate that. I’m sure glad there’s only one more book to go. (I’ve read book 12 around Christmas time). If there were any more books in this series I don’t think I would’ve read them. Disappointed.

Macomber is always a good read. It is enjoyable to read a follow up book with known characters. Throughout the book characters’ stories are summarized repeated times. That makes for a slow read. There are multiple twists to the plot at the end.

This is the tenth installment in Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series. Having read the previous nine, I naturally had to read this one to see what was happening with all of the characters I've come to "know."

The main focus of this story is on Mary Jo Wyse and Mack McAfee. If you missed A Cedar Cove Christmas, you won't know the backstory behind these two. However, as she does in every installment, Debbie gives you a bit of history about each character so if you missed a book (or just don't remember what happened in the last one) you won't get lost in the new story. Besides the budding romance between these two and the drama of Mary Jo's daughter, Noelle's, father, David Rhodes, Mack and Mary Jo find a box of letters written by a soldier during World War II. They do a lot of research to find the person who wrote the letters and who he wrote them to in order to return the letters to them.

Another storyline, and the main plot for the eleventh installment, 1105 Yakima Street, due to be released in September 2011, revolves around Bruce and Rachel Peyton and Bruce's teenage daughter, Jolene. I'm quite shocked at how Bruce has handled Jolene's disrespectful attitude towards her step-mother and look forward to seeing how this is resolved next year.

Other characters involved in 1022 Evergreen Place are Bobby and Terri Polgar and their triplet sons, Terry's sister, Christie, and James, Will Jefferson, Shirley and Tanni Bliss and Tanni's boyfriend, Shaw, Grace Harding, Jack and Olivia Griffin, Ben and Charlotte Rhodes and Ben's son, David (the father of Mary Jo Wyse's daughter), Roy and Corrie McAfee and their daughters, Gloria and Linette, and Linc and Lori Wyse. Charlotte's Coconut Cake was mentioned more than once...I must get the Cedar Cove Cookbook so I can make it myself!

If you love Debbie's Cedar Cove series as much as I do, check out her new Cedar Cove website! If your new to the series, it is made up of light, easy reads (I finished this book in two days) that follows a series of characters living in Cedar Cove, Washington. They are fun, familiar and heartwarming. I can't wait for the next installment!

Another great trip to Cedar Cove! I can't believe I'm all caught up and have to actually wait for the next book to be published :(

Quite a bit is shakin' in Cedar Cove these days. Mack and Mary Jo's house is the address of this book. It was pretty plain in the Christmas book that these two were destined to be together, and it was really cool watching the issues fall away and seeing them get married . . . but the big question is what did Ben have to do to get David to sign the papers?

James and Christie are back to being an item. While their relationship is fraught with baggage from both of their pasts, I hope they've finally made it through the muck and can be happy together.

Bruce and Rachael are driving me crazy. I can see why the next book happens to revolve around their address. Teenage girls can be extremely difficult to deal with, and it's going to interesting to see how Jolene works through her issues.

Tanni and Shaw are having long-distance issues. Ah, young love . . . it can be so heartbreaking. Thank you Debbie for not hooking up Shirley and Will. I love Shirley and Larry together! I'm really rooting for Miranda and Will. He definitely needs to be knocked down a peg or two, and Miranda is the lady to do that!

I love that there were two weddings in this book (Yay for Troy & Faith!!). No new babies in this book, but at least Rachael will be having one in the next book.

Linc and Lori's story is going to be pretty interesting in the next book too . . . Lori's dad is a piece of work!!

This was my second book in the cedar cove series, having picked up Cedar Cove Christmas at the library last week. When I looked into reading more books in the series I would of NEVER realized the following / groups/ festivals/clubs this series has.

As I am not an expert on the Cedar Cove Series or the author , Debbie Macomber for that matter , I am an avid romance reader.

I really like the authors style ,the way in which she weaves her stories around the town members and families creating stories within stories ,so that no matter which book you pick up to read first ,you feel at home. This is her hook , every author has one and this works very well for Mrs. Macomber.

Inviting her readers into books ,as remote viewers , her character have such depth that one feels as if they are family and once the novel has come to an end ,the reader longs for the story to continue, hence the hook .

Still having read a few of the series ,if you find yourself enamored ,as I am with the Cedar Cove residents, go back and start with book 1 ..Lighthouse road. and continue through the series in order, I have found it allows the reader a deeper connection with the characters, as well as a better understanding of the who's who of Cedar Cove.
List can be found on the authors website as well as the Cedar Cove fan site, just google it :-).

This is one of my all time favorite series, ever! This is the first book of the series I listened to on audio and it was fun to listen to, although I will most likely be reading the rest of them on my Kindle. I think I prefer to read these over listening to them.

Debbie Macomber is one of my all time favorite authors. Before I turned into a cozy mystery junkie, I was strictly a romance reader and Macomber was always one of my top favorites. This book features two of my favorite characters – Mary Jo Wyse and Mack McAfee. We first had a taste of their story in A Cedar Cove Christmas and I totally fell in love with them in this one book. I was so excited to hear that 1022 Evergreen Place focused on them, too!

These two characters are wonderful and I really hope we read more about Mary Jo’s brothers. I know the series has ended but I’m not finished reading them yet, so I still have things to look forward to and I don’t think of it as an “ended” series. J

This is a relaxing series…a series that just lets you enjoy it and be stress free. These books are sweet romances with plenty of conflicts that will never leave readers bored. These books are the definition of “feel good” books. I love every one of them. I never felt bored with any book in this series. I’m always anxiously awaiting the next one.

Mack McAfee lives at 1022 Evergreen Place. It is a duplex and he has rented the other side to his friend and hopefully to be more, Mary Jo Wyse and her daughter Noelle. If you remember Mack helped deliver little Noelle on Christmas eve at the Harding ranch. The two of them have their difficulties and problems in finding if their relationship will blossom and they will become one. David Rhodes, the father of Noelle, continues to be an eyesore around Cedar Cove and does what he can to rile Mary Jo about custody of the baby. David's father, Ben, comes into the picture and finally helps with the situation.

Also, Bruce Peyton and his wife, Rachel, are now expecting a child to the dismay of Bruce's daughter Jolene. Jolene has caused a rift between Rachel and Bruce. Rachel has decided to leave Bruce and Jolene is thrilled. So sad, brought tears to my eyes. I cannot wait until the next installment of the Cedar Cove series.

I've read a lot of Debbie Macomber but found this to be disappointing. Too many characters and each chapter I found and I had to back and see who the character was and the relationship. I won't read the next book in this series.....too much going on and way too many characters.
I've enjoyed her other books.....ie: Rose Harbour...….loved those books.....

I've read this series in order (as I like to do) and have gotten to know and like most of the folks in Cedar Cove... except Will and Jolene. Will is such an arrogant, self-centered creep, I don't know how anyone continues to talk to him. And Jolene has become such a snotty, needy brat. I don't know why Bruce turns a blind eye to all the nastiness she dumps on Rachel.

I really enjoyed the Mack/Mary Jo storyline, including the mysterious, old love letters. I'm ready to see what the next book brings for Cedar Cove!
