I enjoyed The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet - the sociological details on the other races were wonderfully inventive, as was its treatment of culture, sexuality, etc. A fascinating book! It was a bit slow in plot/character movement though.

I was a little disappointed when I heard that this one starts with a whole bunch of different characters for the most part because I was hoping the sequel would be able to skip some of the setup necessary in the first book. Is this one similarly sedate in its plot movement and character development over time?

I am really intrigued to find out more about Lovey though. Don't tell me any spoilers because I do want to read it!! I was just wondering what you thought of the overall pacing of the sequel in comparison to the first book.

PattyMacDotComma Loved 11/22/63 because Stephen King is such a good writer, and he can be quite the romantic!

She continues with all her sociological details Greg and goes in deep with whether artificial intelligences are sentient beings. It is not an action packed book but her study of the different characters is enjoyable as is the story of Jane which really appealed to me!
I would say this one is slower in the action but better in the character development than the first book. And you do not miss the first book's characters because the new ones are so interesting:)

I've read a few other books of Neruda's poetry translated by William O'Daly (Still Another Day and The Yellow Heart), and I loved them! A great poet, and an excellent translator!

Yep! Who knew? Definitely my very favorite book by him.

message 11019: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC I finished White Tears real early this morning. It's funny, to be completely honest about it, I didn't really enjoy it all that much while reading it (about 3 stars). But now that I think back on it as a whole, it seems like a pretty amazing work. Undoubtedly some will see it as a mess and others as a masterpiece. I sorta feel like it's both.

I can't wait to read 11/22/63. King is just brilliant.

Do read The Postman by Antonio Skármeta if you haven't read it yet. No, it's not like the movie. As usual, the book is much better.

Albert I read The Sea by John Banville. My first by him. My review:

message 11039: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie I really enjoyed E.M. Forster's A Passage to India. It isn't going to fit everybody. It is not an action filled adventure story. The audiobook's narration by Sam Dastor could certainly have been improved, particularly how he intones young women. My review say why I enjoyed the book so much.
