We have a huge variety of speeds in reading from 1 book a month to almost a book a day on our team. We wanted everyone to feel they could participate, so we put no limits on how many items a book could be used for. We have thirteen unique letters in our team name and 16 categories, this makes a potential 208 spots if a fast reader wants to try to complete the whole thing(6 items per book if you can read a book a day). One letter has 16 spots and most likely will take at least 2-3 books to complete a letter, but completing a whole letter is not required in Scattegories.
Team Hobbit Rules for Scattegories
1. Choose a letter or letters from the team name and read a book where you can find items on the list that start with that letter. For example with the letter C, an animal found could be the word 'cat', a color found could be the word 'crimson', an author could be Colleen Coble(2 pts for two Cs)
2. You can find as many as you like out of the same book.
3. Each square can only have one item from one book. For example, you can not find the word 'cheetah' from one book and 'cat' from another and use both of them for animal under C.
4. It is not necessary to finish a letter, just find a many as you can. Each word that starts with the letter gains 1 point. If you find a phrase like 'blue baboon'(2 pts) or an author with the same initials like Colleen Coble(2 pts), you get additional points each time the first letter is the same.
5. Post your book when finished and tell us what categories you found in the book and why they fit. Unlike other challenges where we can just look at your shelf to list your books, you will need to post the book and items since we can not see inside the book.
6. The whole team will need to read 75 books total in the month of August.
7. If you want make a personal goal for this challenge, here are some options to consider:
a. choose a specific letter/letters and try to complete them
b. choose a category/categories and try to complete them
c. pick a number of points to reach and see if you can find enough words to reach it
We are going to use letters from our team name: C, E, R, U, L, A, N, K, H, O, B, I, T
Categories we are going to look for:
author - author's first, last or nickname has to start with letter we are looking for
title - first word in title needs to start with letter we are looking for (you can ignore a, an, the if you want)
male & female character - first, last or nickname of the character in the book. Preferably main, but you can also use secondary characters. It needs to be someone who's part of the book not just mentioned in it.
location - place where significant part of the story takes place not just place characters visit for short time.
cover - item on the cover (use your imagination ☺)
weather, summer, food, color, animal, hobby, music, clothes, toys - look for words you associate with these categories (not just these words). Again use your imagination. ☺
You pick what letter(s) you are going to play with. You don't have to find all categories. You can 'play' with more than one letter at the same time. There is no restriction for how many items per book you can use. And yes, you can switch items as long as game lasts.
Please use one post for one letter. Update it when you find something.

when you play scattergories, it all has to start with the Same letter. So you can't use C, and H and A. You can only use one Letter for every category.
At least that is how the instructions in the game works.
In our team version, there are basically 13 different scattergories games being played possibly all at the same time, one for each unique letter of our team name. A team member can choose to focus on only one letter, or try for several of the letters.So, you could be looking for all the categories starting with E to finish that game, and all the categories with C to finish that game, and so on for as many letters as you wish.
While normally you would only use one letter, we are not limiting it to only one letter per book to accommodate slower readers who may want to attempt completing more than one letter. You may still choose to do so if you wish.
In Tea's example, she is showing how you can find items for multiple letters in the same book. She is playing 5 scattergories games simultaneously with the letters C, H, N, B, A. There is still only one item per category per letter.

What do we put for the summer category?
Whatever you feel fits in summer. For example, B can be beach or barbecue, C could be clear skies, T could be travel, U could be umbrella since people sit under them during the summer for shade, etc. U for umbrella could also work for weather if you think of it as a rainy day.
