message 1551: by John (new)

John Marcinko Ms Rowling:

I believe that writers learn from every book they write. If you agree with this premise, could you comment on what you learned from writing this particular book?

message 1552: by Daniela (new) - added it

Daniela What is your writing process? How do you get started? What do you do with your ideas? Do you write from start to finish or do you write a bit here and there and sort of knit everthing together? etc. I would love to know x

message 1553: by Harsha (new) - added it

Harsha Will the book be as passionate and unique as you first 2-3 Harry Potter books? Because the first book was truly a masterpiece while your writing (to me) style withered and became adulterated. Can you invest your true self again into this book?

message 1554: by Ines (new)

Ines How did you get inspiration for this book?

message 1555: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie A lot of people still haven't gotten over Harry Potter having ended. Are you considering writting more fantasy novels (doesn't have to be Harry Potter related)?

message 1556: by Whitney (new)

Whitney Clements What inspired you to keep going, to keep writing? When you could have just given up.

message 1557: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Brown Hi Everyone! Thanks again for your questions. Here is J.K. Rowling's answer to the winning question:

Mariluce Showing us a family which is full of problems such as the family of Kristal (i don't know if it is written correctly), you showed us a terrible part of life that can make people addicted, in other words, DRUGS. Moreover, with the announce of Cory Monteith's death because of drugs, I feel so sorry because drugs are very painful, dangerous and it's also hard to stop using them. So, Terry represents what an addicted person can be but, my question is, have you ever been near a person who uses drugs? Or have you just heard it on tv or newspaper?

message 1559: by Paul (new)

Paul Shepard My one question about "The Casual Vacancy" is; what is it about? :)

message 1560: by Marisa (new)

Marisa Is this book in any way like the amazing Harry Potter series

message 1561: by Vickey (new) - rated it 5 stars

Vickey Kall Marisa wrote: "Is this book in any way like the amazing Harry Potter series"
No! Not at all--please don't think that. It's a great book, but not happy. It's very raw, gritty, and characters are foul-mouthed and often cruel and selfish.

message 1562: by Tomatolover (new)

Tomatolover What inspired or how did you come up with the story for your new book?

message 1563: by Mary-Kate (new)

Mary-Kate Hi Ms. Rowling,

First off, I'd like to say what a huge influence your writing has been for me. My question is, did you ever doubt your writing abilities? If so, how did you overcome your insecurity and lack of faith?

Thank you so much for your time,

Mary-Kate

message 1564: by Sameera (new)

Sameera Now that you have written a novel aimed at adults, would you ever consider re-visiting Harry Potter, you could write about the next generation. Or perhaps, create another, different fantasy book.

message 1565: by C.K. (new) - rated it 5 stars

C.K. Alber Do you base you characters on acquaintances from your down-to-earth life or do you totally makeup their personalities?

message 1566: by Rosalind (new)

Rosalind I saw this message in my feed a bit too late, if I could ask Jk Rowling a question about casual vacancy it would be, why did you kill Colin mccreevy and hegwig! Those were unnecessary deaths and it makes you kind of a bitch. I didn't read casual vacancy, I'm still upset about Colin and hedwig.

message 1567: by Anna (new)

Nichola I love how people are still asking questions on this despite missing the deadline and having the winner announced along with JKR's answer. I also loved how the people were asked to enter a question about The Casual Vacancy but have asked questions about Harry Potter!

I haven't read it! I really want to but I want to leave it very mysterious!

message 1576: by Carole (new) - rated it 2 stars

Carole Weave-lane I would like to suggest that J.K.Rowling, in her infinite wisdom has journalistic and a philosophical turn of mind for she probes deep into society's values on many levels and in so doing she is able to reveal the 'cell of being. My question, Miss Rowling 'do you on a larger scale seek to show that in society you cannot judge a book by its cover and therefore one should be more circumspect in offering opinions about others until you have walked in their shoes.

message 1577: by Laura (new) - rated it 4 stars

Laura This book is different from every other book I've read. The characters all have very human personalities, not one is better than the other. Which character do like or dislike the least? Also, what inspired you to write a story this detailed about human frailty and dishonesty?

message 1578: by Sonal (new)

Sonal Sahu Did you add something Harry Potter-ish to this book that we readers were not able to see?
Loved the book!

message 1592: by Marisa (new)

Marisa Ya me too

message 1593: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Riopel I hope she does

message 1594: by Ahmed (new)

Ahmed Ansary The Casual Vacancy is a very serious look at Britain's mental health/social services institutions and the problems they face. It obviously hits close to home. Can you say what prompted, inspired you to write the book.

message 1595: by Anthony (new) - rated it 2 stars

Anthony Marchetta Dixie wrote: "Sonal wrote: "Did you add something Harry Potter-ish to this book that we readers were not able to see?

Interesting perspective, but I don't think I agree. Even after that, Harry still had a pretty awful life in many ways. The only thing really different was that he finally had great friends.

In book 6, Rowling touches on this point. The truly remarkable thing about Harry is that even AFTER all of the tragedy in his life he was still able to become a well-adjusted and extraordinary man.

I think Harry would have been one of the very few people in "The Casual Vacancy" who would be able to take all of this on the chin and still come out of it all right. That's what made him special, his incredible ability to roll with the punches.

message 1596: by [deleted user] (new)
