Both such great series!!!

message 3102: by Emily (new)

Emily Why is the last book in a series always the worst. Not that Monsters of Men is bad I just don't think it's as good as the first two, but tell me what you think of the very end I think it was awesome.

I loved all three books. Definitely the first was the best (hooked me) but I thought all of them were good, and I liked the ending too. I felt satisfied.

message 3104: by Amy (new)

Amy I think it often depends. I'm reading the House of Night series and book six was definitely the best so far.

message 3105: by Emily (new)

Emily Yeah but it's like these epic trilogies make me have these high expectations and they kinda let me down, like Hunger Games for example.

I was definitely let down by Mockingjay.

message 3107: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Good insight, Heather. That is definitely something I want to spend some time thinking about. I wonder if that's part of the reason I avoid reading series. I just shared this with my 15 yo son and he says that bit about loving the characters and living in that world is why he likes long series.

message 3108: by Amy (new)

Amy I think that's the reason I LOVE series. But then again, when the series is too long, I'm dying to get out of their world. LOL.

I'm reading Firelight which is interesting and better than I expected.

message 3109: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) I just finished Prophecy of the Sisters, which was a little disappointing. It had a good storyline, but I felt indifferent to the main characters. I didn't have any reason to like them or hate them besides being told that one's a good guy and one's a bad guy. Oh well.

I'm going to start the audio version of Dead Beautiful today. Hoping it's good!

message 3110: by Eden (new)

Eden Silverfox (tsalagi_writer) | 265 comments I've just started reading Up a Road Slowly by Irene Hunt.

message 3111: by Amy (new)

Amy I finished Firelight yesterday which was awesome. Now reading Chasing Perfect, which isn't YA but an easy read.

message 3113: by Amy (new)

Amy I'm now reading Evernight which is good so far.

message 3114: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Klaassen (librarymom23) I am reading Crunch Time, I am finding the book very interesting.

message 3115: by Amy (new)

Amy Finished Evernight and now reading Almost Perfect, which is not a YA.

message 3116: by Heather (new)

Heather | 2 comments I am reading Zombies vs. Unicorns by Holly Black Zombies vs. Unicorns. I love it! I am going to use many of the stories in it to read and discuss with my 7th grade students.

message 3117: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) About to start the ARC for Bottom of the 33rd: Hope, Redemption, and Baseball's Longest Game - don't know yet whether it'll be suitable for YA.

message 3118: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Klaassen (librarymom23) Over the weekend I started John Stephen's The Emerald Atlas. I had recieved an ARC, so I thought I would give it a try.

message 3119: by Amy (new)

Amy That wasn't one of the better books IMO either Heather.

Over the weekend I read Shadow of the Moon and finished it in a day. I loved it so much! Fourth book in the series, and I think the final one. Now I'm reading Local Girls for my book club. It's not YA.

message 3120: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Bottom of the 33rd Hope, Redemption, and Baseball's Longest Game by Dan Barry is indeed suitable for young adults. Baseball fans would get more out of it than I did, but it is mainly about dreams & obsessions, illusions & hope & disappointment. Quite good. Interesting writing style, mixing tenses for poetic effect. I'd buy it for a high school library, mabye even for a Composition class.

message 3121: by Amy (new)

Amy I'm reading Vesper by Jeff Sampson. Easy read and pretty interesting.

message 3122: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rbg23) I just started The Liar Society. Loving it so far!

message 3123: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) I am reading How to Be Bad which is pretty good and listening to The Replacement, which has a very cool premise. Not in love with it, but am hoping it lives up to its potential.

Also reading Lover Unleashed, which is the exact opposite of YA.

message 3124: by Kellyflower (new)

Kellyflower | 136 comments I'm reading Ann Aguirre's Enclave

message 3125: by Amy (new)

Amy I'm now reading Immortal, Love Stories with Bite (or some title like that) by P.C. Cast. Not exactly sure if it's YA or not.

message 3126: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished The Year of the Griffin. This was a reread, but I had forgotten most of the significant parts of the book that it was like reading a vaguely familar story. I missed many connections that first time through. I enjoyed the read and wish there were more stories surrounding the land of Derk.

I am now reading The Gathering. Too soon to say whether I like it or not. Though, I think I will.

message 3128: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) I'm reading an oldie, Charlotte Sometimes, on my Kindle. I saw it available and had to get it. I'm a big fan of the Cure. :)

I'm also reading Blood Magic which I'm really liking, but it's taking me FOREVER to get through. Seems like the real world keeps butting into my reading time!!!

message 3129: by Amy (new)

Amy Finished reading Bumped which was interesting. Scary how that could really in some ways be a reality in the future.

Reading The Fledgling Handbook 101 because I love the House of Night series.

message 3130: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Heather wrote: "Reading Soulless and slogging through it kinda slowly. It's light and kinda pulpy, and I'm not really digging it. Plus I read the first few pages of [book:The Name of the Wind|186074..."

I hadn't realized Soulless wasn't YA when I started reading it, but kept thinking, "Hmm. THAT was pretty suggestive," all throughout the book!

message 3131: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished Power of Three and thoroughly enjoyed it. I just started The Mysterious Howling (The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place #1) which looks like a nice easy read.

message 3132: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Heather wrote: "I saw it shelved in the YA section at the Borders here in town before it closed. I hadn't considered it before then, but it is quite, ahem, scandalous for the victorian era in which it takes place."

Wait 'til the ending!

message 3133: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1332 comments Finally started The Hunger Games!!! And boy are my arms tired!

message 3134: by Amy (new)

Amy Reading Invincible by Sherilyn Kenyon. I read the first one and really enjoyed it, so onto book two!

message 3135: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cawils_99) I'm just starting Jane for my bookclub and then I'll read Prom and Prejudice.

message 3136: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cawils_99) That's a good idea. Thanks Heather!

message 3137: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kirsten27) | 53 comments Cheryl wrote: "I'm just starting Jane for my bookclub and then I'll read Prom and Prejudice."
I loved Jane! After I read it I saw the movie Jane Eyre, and now I have got to read the original. (I read it in high school and hated it, but I am slightly more mature now....)

I am reading Divergent, after starting and abandoning Abandon, by Meg Cabot.

message 3138: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kirsten27) | 53 comments Heather wrote: "You ought to save the prom book for the reading challenge number 9 starting in July, Cheryl. It's a perfect fit for one of the tasks.

I just started The Name of the Wind. :)"

That book is AMAZING! The beginning is slow, but don't give up. It has really incredible storytelling.

I had to read Jane Eyre in highschool too and it was one of my favorites then. I read it again as an adult and it is still one of my all time favorite books. I'm half way through Jane and it's pretty good so far I just wonder how they are going to end it.

message 3142: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) I am just starting a bunch of books.

Kindle: Wish Wish by Alexandra Bullen

Audiobook: Shift Shift (Shade, #2) by Jeri Smith-Ready

Hardcover: Trial by Fire Trial by Fire (Raised by Wolves, #2) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
and (adult) A Visit from the Goon Squad A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan

message 3143: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Klaassen (librarymom23) I am working on The Emerald Atlas. I am not reading it fast.

message 3144: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I am listening to The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate.

message 3145: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Paula wrote: "I am listening to The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate."

How are you liking it, Paula? I have that one to listen to sometime in the future...

message 3146: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I really like the story. I think one of the reasons being is that I'm listening to it and the narrator sounds good. The story's so easy to listen to. I was listening to it while walking to my car after work and didn't want to turn it off. I was in the middle of Calpurnia trying to handle her love sick brothers.
