the only one whose heart I long to know.

Hayden was born a werewolf, a Dark Guardian. But her ability to sense the feelings of fellow werewolves has made her life unbearable. She runs away, only to be tracked by charming, mysterious Daniel, a newcomer to the pack and the one Shifter immune to her powers. As she reluctantly follows him home, Hayden finds herself falling dangerously in love. . . .

But even as her feelings for Daniel deepen, Hayden begins to wonder if he is who he claims to be. Where did he come from and why has no one ever seen him transform? When they stumble upon the body of a Shifter still in wolf form, her worries grow. Someone is killing her kind. Is her handsome tracker really a hunter? And is Hayden now his prey?

This is my guilty pleasure series. Does anyone else have one of those?

These books really aren't all that exceptionally written, the plot is about as predictable as the end of the Titanic movie (I mean we all know the boat sinks..) and the characters really aren't all that spectacular, but I can't help but devour these books in one whole setting.

I literally cannot stop turing the pages fast enough... even though I really already know what is going to happen. How that even makes any sense I don't know. There is just something about then that I find very addicting!

Maybe because they are just a fun, fluffy, feel good type of novel, where the girl always gets the guy and they end up happily every after for the most part. I guess that's my childhood obsession with the fairy-tale ending happy ending.. coming out to haunt me.

If you are looking for an easy read, you like werewolves and romance, and happy ending, I would absolutely recommend this series. If you hate romance, werewolves, and prefer your novels to be deep and thought-provoking... I would probably skip this one!

Bring on book five!! There is a book five, right?

Shadow Of The Moon is my most favorite book in Dark Guardian series. There was no more Bio-Chrome, and that was good because this new enemy seemed much more dangerous than the previous crazy scientists gang.

The hero and heroine were very likeable. I liked Hayden's sweet and lively personality. She was a shapeshifter who could sense the other shifters' emotions. She knew that she was the Harvester's next target so she ran away to protect herself and her pack from danger. Daniel was sent to track her down and take her back to Wolford with him. He was such a gorgeous, mysterious, and definitely swoon-worthy alpha hero who had some secrets. I thought he was even more sexy

The attraction between Daniel and Hayden was so strong and their relationship was really beautiful to me. This story was wonderful. I loved it!

This book again blew me away. It was so intense, I even got angry, had to put the book down then come back to it later. Hayden is curse with feeling every ones emotions. Sometimes she needs to leave in order to make her feel better. She meets Daniel who is a new arrival at their sanctuary. Daniel is dark and mysterious and is holding a secret.

Hayden and Daniel have an instant connection. During this time, Hayden begins to wonder where he really came from and if he is who he says he is. She doesn't see him shift. In she never does. At first she thought he was human and can't shift at all. Then she finds out what he really is.

Hayden is being chase by a Harvester. A nasty creature bent on eating her. She turns to help from Daniel, who seems to know a lot about these things. During their time of getting to know each other, Daniel finally grows comfortable enough to tell her his secret. He is not a werewolf but a panther! Hayden is surprised by this knowledge. She finds out that Daniel's people and family have been wiped out by Harvesters and came to the shifter sanctuary to find a way to kill it. His mother told him to go there for help. Daniel thought it was a place for all shifters, not just werewolf.

They run into more drama and this is were Hayden really ticked me off. She betrayed him! In the moment that Daniel needed her the most, in order to save her own butt she reveals to the consul that Daniel is not only who he says he is but a panther! Daniel is immediately hurt and angry at her betrayal. The council has no other choice but to lock Daniel up seeing that he deceive them all. And what does Hayden do? Instead of sticking up for the guy she supposedly loves she just lets them take him away as if he was really going to hurt them. UGH!!

Oh and this part gets me even more angry. In the end, being the nice guy Daniel is. He forgives her and takes her back. After she betrayed him, she is immediately almost killed by the Harvester. Daniel hears her cries, breaks out of the cage, goes after to save her. Let me tell you, if it was me, I would have left her there. She can save herself! But no, Daniel rushes out, save her and forgives her.

Sigh, this was a great book. I loves the twist to the plot, the betrayal thing totally got me, let me tell ya. But this book was a great read, easy and fast. I would really like another shifter book to come out soon. There was some underage drinking in the book. Other than that, the book was clean.

I liked this book more and less than the previous ones. More because I felt there was more of a plot than just the transformation and love drama. Bio chrome never felt that pressing, and they honestly never seemed like much of a match for more than one shifter at a time. Or even one human girl, in Kayla's case. So the suspense and action was better. Daniel added some mystery, and Hayden was definitely the most unique of all the girls. And this one was less predictable than the others. It wasn't completely unpredictable, but it was better anyway.

I liked it a little less because for some reason the writing felt off at times. I'm not really sure why. It could have just been my mindset at the time, but it was a little distracting.

And while I liked the addition of the harvester and other supernatural elements, it felt a little forced too. Like the author felt the story was in need of a bit more depth. I think that was accomplished, but a little too late in the series to feel authentic.
It could be argued that the main characters in the first three were pretty self involved, and since Kayla wasn't even aware that shifters existed until about the last quarter of the book, there's no reason for those remarkable elements to come up. But I feel like there should have been a mention in Lindsey's or Brittany's story. At least of the possibility that there was more to it than just the shifters being different.
Overall, I liked the series better than I thought I would. I still don't care for the constant shifting (haha) of main characters with each book, and I'd like to continue with their individual stories - particularly since I feel like Hayden and Daniel were left wide open for a sequel - but I understand why the author chose to do it this way.

I take no pleasure in writing a less-than-positive review of a 'Dark Guardian' novel. As a fan of werewolves and well-crafted romances, I was drawn to the previous book, 'Dark of the Moon,' and largely enjoyed it. Afterward, I began looking forward to this one, and had also considered reading Book #1 in the meanwhile (the novels don't necessarily have to be read in order). This entry is well-written throughout, and has an interesting twist involved, but I have to admit to being disappointed overall.

I just don't find it romantic when one member of a relationship is overly controlling and forceful, and Daniel (who shows up to bring Hayden with him whether she likes it or not) is about as assertive and pushy as it gets. He even touches Hayden repeatedly without consent while throwing in little requests for obedience -- as one would do to a small child. None of this comes across as moving; it instead eliminates a sense of equality early on. The fact that he's polite about it, constantly "grinning," does not make it any less off-putting. And while Hayden is portrayed as having a strong will, it frequently crumbles in the face of shallow physical attraction. As a result, she's only half endearing as a protagonist. Since I couldn't enjoy the relationship -- which is at the core of a 'DG' story -- I couldn't really enjoy the novel overall. In my opinion, it would've been more romantic if he'd simply offered to watch over her in whatever decision she made, rather than trying to remove choice from the matter.

It's notable that at one point in the book, there's mention of a certain character in this series falling in love "slowly and over time." I couldn't help but dispute that claim, however, because a few days worth of changed feelings doesn't amount to "slowly." The feelings in this novel are similarly rushed in my opinion, which gets me wondering why the author's in such a hurry to make her characters fall in "love." As several of these couples are just starting to know each other, I'd find it more believable -- and a lot less predictable -- if some of them were simply headed in that direction.

I have a lot of respect for Hawthorne's ability to craft an interesting mythology with fascinating little mysteries. I have a lot of respect for her ability to craft concise, well-written sentences that keep the story flowing well. I just don't care for the way she chose to use her gift in this particular novel. Perhaps this one was meant to appeal to submissive readers who think that being controlled (not just helped) by a stereotypical 'bad boy' would be romantic. The previous book (and the others, from what I understand) did not have this issue, which made for a better romance and a more admirable heroine. As such, I'm going to read the first 'DG' novel, and hope that any future ones hew closer to the series' tradition.

3.5 stars. After reading books 1 through 3 in this series, I thought that I had pretty much figured out the formula for each book : lonely girl overcomes obstacles in order to finally be with her soulmate, who happens to be a wolf shifter, the same as her.

The stories were cute, but fairly innocent. Average at best, but still enough for me to invest a lazy hour or two with because I'm a sucker for young love.

Book 4 in the series took a turn into unfamiliar territory and I liked where it went. I'm not sure if the author is trying to appeal to a slightly older crowd now, but I caught a few innuendos and a bit of attitude from this heroine. It didn't hurt either that the male lead was sure of himself, slightly independent, and had dark hair and green eyes (wowza). About midway through the book, something happened that made me extremely happy, and bumped my normal rating of 3 stars for this series up to a 3.5 for this individual book. I was hyped that Daniel turned out to be completely different than what I expected him to be, and I very much hope that we will find out how his "differences" effect the community of Wolford in the future.

Gone were the science research teams, but in their place was a very odd supernatural being called the Harvester (of souls or something...). I was a bit confused where this creature came from, since it didn't make an appearance in any of the other books.

Since these books are PNR and not UF, each one can be read as a standalone. If you don't like overly cutesy stories, I'd almost skip the first three and just read this one. It's still young and innocent, but doesn't feel quite as silly as previous installments.

I tried to look around to see if there was going to be a book 5 in this series (since I now have some unanswered questions), but nothing is showing up just yet. Hopefully, this isn't the last hurrah for the Dark Guardians.

From harrowing escapes to heart-stopping confrontations, the pacing of Shadows of Stone keeps readers on edge. Each obstacle feels meticulously crafted, pushing Sage and Daxos to their limits and keeping the suspense alive from beginning to end.

This was the story I wanted the whole time! Great twist at the end but the characters history with the villain came out of nowhere to me when the other books have a different villain.

This was the ending to the series. Overall it wasn't bad. I do think that I liked this one more than the rest. I get why she ran away. this life isn't for everyone. Thankfully she met a guy that made her happy. I was also glad that they took care of the enemy. However, the way they ended it sounded like there could be more. Which sucks for them since they can't just sit back and enjoy themselves.

This was the best book of this series so far. The author did a good job in allowing the reader to get to know the two main characters. I could understand Hayden's strength and her loneliness at being a Shifter empath. Hayden's gift didn't allow her to socialize and live well with other shifters because she was constantly being bombarded by their emotions, both good and bad. She runs away from Wolford to protect herself and her pack but Daniel is sent to find her. The time Daniel and Hayden spend away from Wolford and other Shifters allowed us to see them as regular people and not shifters, which I think allowed us to understand them better and relate to them. We get to really see how Hayden slowly falls in love with Daniel and vice versa. Daniel, was a recent addition to the Dark Guardian group and because of that, the reader does not know that much about him and neither did Hayden. Therefore as he opened himself up to Hayden, the reader felt like they too were getting to know him. Daniel was a loner himself was able to understand Hayden's need to be alone, eventhough he was determined to get her back to Wolford. Daniel and Hayden were the perfect pairing, but they had their obstacles to overcome, one of theing being a monster who was after Hayden's soul. Secrets are revealed and it makes the story so much better.

It was absolute great read. Loved it.

I truly enjoyed this series because of the unique take Ms. Hawthorne portrays for the world of the female shape shifters. However, this fourth book was by far my favorite and that is saying something. This installment has the most unusual storyline yet. The main character Hayden was selfless, courageous, sweet and possesses the charming ability to accept people for who they are without judging. The hero, Daniel, loves the strength Hayden exudes.

Originally, I was under the impression there was only going to be three books; so, I was concerned that the fourth book would be weak and not as interesting as the first three. Boy, was I wrong. Now the only question remains is whether or not there will be more books in the series.

well, first this book has the best cover among all the dark guardian series (the girl is really pretty in here unlike the other three....bleee.....). second, this is by far the best story among the four books. mainly because it involves a different type of shifter which is daniel (he's not a wolf....guess what????) and last, by far daniel is the hottest shifter among the four books (male shifter that is).

Kay so this is basically my review on the whole series i loved it, except there were a few things that bothered me. 1. in every book they always conveniently had to share a sleeping space. 2. in almost every book they went skinny dipping. In every book the guy defended the girl from another wild animal. But either then that the books were amazing :) loved the characters!!

i read this years ago, and i wasn't as crazy about it as i was the other books, just because it was so different, and not in a good way. i wanted Rachel to switch her storylines up, but this was really random.
the characters sound the same. They all cuss, they all think the tradition of a guy being their w/the girl during her 1st transformation is sexist and archaic. They cant all be the same! &idk if hawthorne is cussing because she thinks that’s what young ppl do, but not everyone does that, so you need to switch it up!
&hayden is supposed to have sandy blonde hair, but the girl on this cover clearly has brown hair that’s been highlighted.& caramel eyes but the girl on the cover has blue eyes.
All the guys are described the same way-they’re all tough, intimidating, scary. Now he’s a loner like rafe. We don’t need 2 loners in the series! I want them all to be different.
&the characters talk boring. Like in the café when hayden is talking to that girl.
Daniel lost major points because his favorite movie is Avatar. that movie sucked! &it didn't really fit his character. speaking of his character, I couldn't really get a sense of who he was, what he liked, his personality. besides the brief mentions of his family. &even that isn't fully explained.
'shifters can sense other shifters, but only after our initial transformation.' that's not true. people sensed kayla was one of them b4 her transformation. the guys did, but they were already shifted. but Lindsay felt a connection to her, too, and she hadn't shifted yet. also kayla felt connection to them too.
hawthorne falls on the same material. in here Daniel teaches her how to hold a cue stick, just like in Full Moon. &she rides with her cheek pressed against his back on the snowmobile just like Lindsay did with rafe on his bike.
How many freakin times can u say u didn’t feel the human’s or daniel’s emotions , you only felt your own. ‘mine &mine alone.’ That particular line was used two times in two pages. Tip-that was two times too many. We get it already-even though you touch Daniel, you can’t read his feelings. Now shut up about it! there is nothing more annoying than repetition!
I reread Moonlight &Full Moon, and Rachel keeps reusing material! Hayden and Daniel drink beer, too. not all teens do this, hawthorne! &I especially wouldn’t have all my characters do it.
Do you really want the 1st time Daniel sees you with makeup on&all dressed up to be when a guy is hitting on you? That was such a bad moment &he should have spotted her some other way. a sweeter way.
the love in here just wasn't exciting. basically, the storyline wasn't exciting. i was into it in the beginning, like when Daniel tracked her down, but it fizzled out when they headed back to wolford. im just not feeling anything with these characters. &they were thrown in at random. Daniel was already a character, but i wish we'd have heard of hayden before this, because it felt like she was thrown in at random&we've never heard of her!
in the previous books, hawthorne should have thrown out some of the other shifer's names.
i don't like how she didn't feel anything for Daniel in the past, but suddenly when he tracks her down, she starts to feel a connection to him.
why would she ask him if he had a mate?! if he did, why would he be bonding to you?
&better yet, why the HECK would you date ppl when you know you're gunna mate for life? if you don't feel that they're your mate, then why date the,? &are those girls humans or shifters? Rachel did that with lucas too. finding out at the end that he's a panther &they don't mate for life, i can understand why he'd dated other ppl, but its still annoying.
"i always felt a pleasant sensation when you were watching me." who says that out loud?
their 1st kiss was random.
like in Full Moon, hawthorne randomly throws out a comment of the 1st shifters landing at wolford from the mayflower. she should have explained in further detail! i mean, that was rlly random. &wasn't connected2 the story at all.
'"this is such a bad idea." such a bad idea.' we didn't need that twice.
so obvious that he's the panther. hayden's not scared of it. she wants to pet it. he asks if she was scared of it. let's connect the dots, shall we?
the part where she said she hugged
'magic&technology.' a dif version of the past books saying that wolford was a blend of old &modern. we get it already!
just how many creatures are there? wolves, cats, vampires. as far as i knew, there were only wolves. now stuff is just popping out of the woodwork.
"i don't have many friends. I'd love2 have another. would love for it to be you." who says that? &i noticed in whole series Rachel talks in fragments sometimes. ppl don't talk like that!
'i could talk to elderly men.' um. how random.&u talk to young guys at the café.
throughout this whole series, someone will say something and someone will respond in a totally blasé way. like she says guess yall had faith in Daniel &someone says "sure." we don't even know who said it! it doesn't make for good reading.&ppl will walk out during a convo &suddenly take a shower. they did that quite a bit in this series. basically, they've all acted rude.
she shouldn't be the one to see that he loves her. he should tell her first. &love came after such a short time!
the chemistry is just forced.&i haven't felt anything during any one of their kisses. its all so contrived and boring. i felt something during the 1st two books, and i was really surprised that i felt absolutely nothing in this one.
&saying that she trusted the elders &that they knew what to do was a lil ironic considering you ran away from them&didnt think that they or anyone else could protect you.
this whole book just stands apart from the others because its so different, and i think it just doesn't fit in with the others. the harvester sprang up out of nowhere. why does it want hayden, exactly? why single her out? but then it goes after others too. i don't get it.
the elders didn't act like elders should. &moments where they held hayden's hand &wrapped their arms her during the mock sword fight and hugged her just broke them out of character. you'd expect them to be aloof, not so hands on. they also aren't described hardly at all. idk what they look like. i have a vague impression of tall guys in robes, but it just seems cartoonish.
wolford has a cook. a game room w/a refreshment bar. a Wii. come on! this doesn't fit at all!
didn't like the part where she experienced connor's love &desire for Brittany, prob because i still cant except that they're a couple. i just don't like Brittany at all. just because connor and Lindsay didn't belong, doesn't mean he doesn't have a mate. what if she's out there somewhere?!
i didn't like the comment that Brittany said about connor must not have kissed Lindsay like he kisses her.
the harvester thing just isn't very threatening. you could have come up with a more scary name for it. it seems like he's about to come plant crops for you.
i forgot about hayden selling Daniel out. so cruel&way too dramatic. she did not have2 do that!
&the elder karate chopping Daniel's neck was so stupid.
in the other books, we also weren't informed that magic exists, so hearing it in here is another shock.
idk if i would have commented on it, but after reading other's reviews about Daniel being overbearing and demanding, i realize he kinda was. &he was rude at times. like barking at her when she goes2 find him in the weapon's room.
hayden should have made a better apology to Daniel after she sold him out on his secret, which was totally wrong and classless. Daniel forgave her way too easily.
i didn't get the part where she said maybe it was because connor loved a human who couldn't shift, but he came over&covered Daniel with the robe. anyone could have done that.
&it was really unrealistic how she was almost about to transform, but then the moon held off long enough for her to defeat it &then have time for a conversation.
I'm disappointed that she told him she loves him&he didn't say it right back. its usually not too funny when someone says i love you and the person responds with something like "good" or "i know." just say i love you back!
im glad they can hear each other's thoughts, but it was unrealistic how Daniel couldn't read her thoughts before, but then suddenly does after she shifts. that's something else that hawthorne wrote to tie off the story in a happy way, but that didn't actually seem realistic.
"its not like we've seen it on oprah." that didn't make any sense. why would u c it on tv, but especially why on Oprah?
"the love of a parent for a child, a friend for a friend, and with connor, the love of a lover for a lover." why only connor there?
there was a lot of touching in the book, and it started real early on. they didn't even know eachother or have a connection, but Daniel just kept touching her tenderly and holding hands. it was like their 'relationship' was being shoved at us. maybe that's why i kind of rebelled against it, idk. but it was contrived&boring from the start.
i also wished that rafe &Lindsay had been in here more. i wanted to hear from the old characters!
the ending could have been a lot better, but then they all could. the line was kinda dumb about her emotions, and then Daniel's name at the end.the last couple chapters ended on a good line, but the actual last line of the book was bad.
hawthorne should have made her characters more distinct and unique, and put more humor and excitement into her books. this one fell short.

2/5⭐

Shadow of the Moon wasn't bad, or anything. It just wasn't especially good, either. Speaking as someone who's read the other three books in this series (granted, several years ago at this point) and decided to finish off the last one more or less on a whim, I can say with surety that this is the weakest book of the series, no questions asked. Why? Because it doesn't feel like part of the series. All three of the other books deal with the same villains, the same group of teenagers, and the same timeframe. Shadow of the Moon, however, features some of the same characters, but not the same timeframe, or, even worse, the same villains. This is made even worse by the fact that the villains for the first three books were finished off in book three, and we didn't introduce the harvester (the new villain) until the first page of Shadow of the Moon. It's completely out of no where, and does not strengthen the book as a whole. It's kind of a shame, because I think this could have been a decent series start, but it doesn't work as a standalone, and it doesn't work as the conclusion to the Dark Guardian series. It ends up just sort of... laying there, and no one quite knows what to do with it. That's probably a large part of the reason that it doesn't get a higher rating than "It was ok". That's all it could be. It was ok. Not a total waste of a read, but nothing to go looking for, either.

5 out of 5 stars!!

Scratch everything, this has got to be my absolute favorite out of the four books. I mean, I really enjoyed the first three, but this has got to be the best. I'm glad that it's the finale as well, although i'd love if there are more books surrounding this world.

Daniel, i honestly had some doubts. When it came to the part where she saw a black panther in the mountains, I literally had the thought 'Could it be........' and it turns out that I was right, yay!
Imagining Daniel as a black panther, wow. Gives me the chills.

Hayden seems like a pretty interesting character. She wasn't the damsel in distress, she could fight her own battles(at times) plus she's emphatic. How awesome is that?

Daniel and Hayden really made a good pair, i was hoping that somehow Hayden shifts into a panther but then some dreams can only stay as dreams. Besides, i got the ending that i wanted so I'm good.

What a good finale to the series, although I wish that it could go on and on and on and I would read all of them.

Again, this series is fantastic, incredibly cheesy, smile-inducing and poorly written. Yeah, I know those things often tend to contradict themselves but this series just needs that cheesiness and the shoddy dialogue. Its what makes this book so simple and enjoyable. Its not that original. It certainly isn't the next piece of classical literature. But its entertaining. It made me laugh, cry and smile. Multiple times. It was cute and sweet. The plot was engaging. It was action-packed but not too rushed. The characters were spot-on. I adored Hayden, and how relatable she was. I loved that she loved the same things as me: books, hot chocolate, winter, travel. I liked Daniel and the fact that he was protective but managed to defy all the stereotypical "alpha male" stuff. I loved the romance.

Overall, this book was fun, light, enthralling and made me smile at all the right times. There was a lot - objectively - that I could criticise but I'm not going to. I don't think you'll go into this book expecting to much, and that's just the way it should be.

Going into this book i was skeptical because the last three books revolved around a group of friends and this one is about people who are outsiders of that group, but I really enjoy the book I did find a couple of things that don't make sense in the series and I am mad at this book, but I really did enjoy reading even with challenging my self about halfway through it the last night I read it to finish it before my husband came home it still didn't feel like a chore it just was a fun read. two things that don't fit perfectly with the series as a whole is a.) the villain there no hint to it anywhere in the other books and b.) daniel the way his character is in this book threw me through a loop a bit in the book before he was so nice and understanding otherwise i like i said i enjoy reading this book it kept my attention, but it, not my fave because for a final it didn't tie up all the loose ends it actually made me want another book from a character that we see more of at the end of this one

Daniel la verdad me cayo bien, good boy.
No tengo mucho que decir, tengo sueño, pero aca va un 4/5. Y me despido de esta saga que me hizo sentir muy histerica cada vez que lo iba leyendo.

I really really enjoy this book a little bit more rather than the other 3.
This book does give a tiny bit of spice of what is like for hayden to be falling in love slowly while working on her special abilities.
I know this book describe daniel as a beautiful dark, tall, brawny man with black hair and green(?) eyes, but why do i picture him as an asian man with muscular look 😂 while i picture hayden as a tiny woman with black hair with height around 150cm 😭
I love their dynamics, their communication, there's not a lot of miscomunication, drama, undecided young adult contemplating with their decision like the other 3 books.

Hayden was born a werewolf, but spent most of her time away from the pack due to being an empath. When she comes back for her first moon, she becomes aware that she will be a danger not just to herself, but to any mate she may choose as well. Hayden does what she can to keep others from harm, but she can't stop Daniel from following her, and when she realises he's the only shifter she can't read, she starts to wonder why.
