I'm really only 50 or less pages in, so I maybe tonight I'll give it another go. You've inspired me, Alan!

Hi Leah. Here's a short piece I wrote about the book. If you've read a bit of the book there should be no real spoilers in my text.

Junior (the main character) is definitely a teenage boy, and talks about masturbation and all kinds of blush-worthy things. Although, I guess that could be a stepping stone to a whole other set of discussions!
I'm 1/2way thru Howl's... and expect to give it 4 stars and a glowing review. I hadn't heard of the movie (I watch very little movies or tv).
Finished up Unearthly (which I loved!) now to finish up Fruits Basket, Volume 1and then start Darkest Mercy & The Cypress House
Happy to hear good things about Unearthly.I'm reading Marcelli Bride (not a YA book). Needed a quick break.
I'm about a quarter into The False Princess by Eilis O'Neal. So far so good! I'm also reading (very slowly) The Healer's Apprentice by Melanie Dickerson and liking it too.
I have so little time for reading at the moment apart from scientific texts about education so I have taken to listening to audiobooks while I cook for everybody or do the cleaning. I listened to The Host for about the sixth time. I see from Goodreads that Stephenie Meyer is writing a sequel called The Soul to be published in 2012. And now I'm listening to Twilight, yet again, read by Ilyana Kadushin. I know it so well that I can actually listen to the words she uses rather than being carried away by the story.
Amy wrote: "I have yet to read The Host. Is it similar to Twilight style of writing? Or more adult?"Hi Amy.
The main character is still YA age, in a way. But the book is quite different. I was surprised and pleased by it the first time I read it. Partly because I had wondered if she could manage to follow up the success of Twilight with a good story. And she did! It still turns around the theme of impossible love, but the context is very different. If those who have read the book will excuse the pun, it kind of gets under your skin.
Oh gosh - I'm a big fan of SF and I loved The Host and will re-read it when the sequel comes out. My husband likes thrillers and he liked it a lot. My then 13 yo son loved it but says he was just barely old enough for it (and I agree with him).
I just started Outside In by Maria V. Snyder which may explain why I didn't sleep so much last night! I'm currently on page182.
Reading Shadow Souls. It's a huge book and I"m hoping I can finish before the end of the month to claim it in the challenge.
I recently started reading The Hungry City Chronicles series. Mortal Engines and Predator's Gold were good, and I'm looking forward to the third one, Infernal Devices. Now that I think about it, this year so far has been wonderful in reading. The Candy Shop War and Fablehaven have introduced me to a new (new to me at least) author Brandon Mull.
I have also been reading a lot of books with underground themes. I know that sounds odd, but Downsiders was excellent. And I'm currently reading Tunnels, which starts a series. All this underground excitment kind of makes me want to reread Journey to the Centre of the Earth, but it's too soon since I just read that one last year.
I'm currently making my way through the short story collection Zombies vs. Unicorns and Among Others by Jo Walton. Julie, maybe you would like the Gregor the Overlander series?? They're definitely a bit more juvenile than the other books you mentioned, but I found them really fun and excellent.
Just finished reading The Piper's Son by Melina Marchetta. It's a companion book to her Saving Francesca, which I read right before. I loved both books. I think Melina Marchetta has become one of my favorite authors.I started reading Timeless before I went to bed and during my commute and lunch today. So far I'm not really liking it. I'm a sucker for time travel, so that's what made me pick it up. I don't know if it is just not the book to follow up two books I really loved or if I just don't like it. So I think I might set it aside for awhile.
Thinking about picking up Revolution next.
With one son I am reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid
and with the other son we are reading Framed
. As a family we finished this week The Battle of the Labyrinth
.
I am reading The Dark Lord of Derkholm in memory of Diana Wynne Jones who passed away yesterday March 26th. It's just so sad. DWJ's books eased me into the world of fantasy. I'm going to reread all the books I have of hers. I'm missing a few and will need to hunt those down.

Outside In
[boo..."i enjoyed [book:Outside In|8901953] and am re-reading it! Hope you enjoy it too.
I'm reading
Rise of the Evening Star. Like the first one in the series, Fablehaven, it is really good. I love the concept- a wildlife preserve for mythical creatures.
I've finished two chapters of The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. Very intriguing so far!
is turning out to be quite good. It's taking me ages to finish The Raising, which is annoying because it's actually very interesting.
Alicia wrote: "I've finished two chapters of The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. Very intriguing so far!
"It just gets better, Alicia!
Thanks Angela and Heather! I am really impressed with it so far! When I'm reading though I keep picturing Clive Owen (from Children of Men) in my head... lol!
Today, I finished Nickel Plated by ARic Davis, which knocked my socks off. SO good. Now I'm reading Where She Went by Gayle Forman, another powerful novel - the follow up to the amazing If I Stay.
The Steerswoman is an excellent book that takes expanded roles for women for granted. That is, it's probably popular among feminists, but it isn't at all didactic or radical about it. And yet women and men are allowed to each have their strengths and interests based on the *tendencies* of their genders. I'm about 2/3 through and thinking that I'll continue with the series, even though I don't like series.
Sheri wrote: "Finally started reading The Book Thief. It's been on my list for a while."Such a great book!
I'm reading Magic Under Glass by Jaclyn Dolamore, which I'm liking so far. Kind of a steampunk-faerie story mix.I'm also listening to the controversial I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore. It's got me pulled in enough already that I'm trying to find an excuse to drive today!
I'm reading a non YA Death Most Definite
So far so good, I like it's from a guy's POV.
I finished up XVI
. I liked it.
