Alan (alanmccluskey) Finished Alanna: The First Adventure a while ago and hesitate about re-reading it while I wait for the other books of the series to arrive.

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments I started Moon Over Manifest figured it won the Newbery and I should find out about it.

Heather - The Bartimaeus books are so much better. I ended up just liking Hero of the Valley, not loving it. I felt it was too drawn out. BUT if you liked that, I am sure you would love the Bartimaeus books... So definitely bump them up on your reading list :)

Patricia wrote: "I think I'm gunna readShiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvaternext... I just moved and have a box of books waiting to be read, while my others sit in storage ;["

Patricia - Let me know what you think... I really didn't like that book.

[Bookcover:Before-I-Fall|6482837] (not sure if this will work...)

I'm now reading Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. I picked it up at a trade show almost two years ago so I am giving it a shot.

message 2805: by Amy (new)

Amy What didn't you like about Shiver Brittany? I really enjoyed it.

message 2806: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 35 comments I don't want to ruin anything for those who are planning to read it, but mostly I felt like the story and characters lacked heart. I thought the premise could have been interesting, but something in the writing and the way it was told was very dead to me. Very cold...you could say. I also felt like I had heard the story before. It's been a few months since I read it and I quickly loose information about a book, especially if it's one that I didn't enjoy, so I wish I could explain myself in more detail, but those are the things I remember most clearly after reading it. What did you enjoy about it? It's always interesting to hear an opposing view.

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments Brittany - Wow! That wasn't how I felt about SHIVER at all. I felt Stiefvater's writing was lyrical, and the book was touching, heartbreaking, and lovely in many ways.

Paula (pauldajo) I have started Linger.

HI Heather. I haven't read the others, but The Ruby in the Smoke by Pulmann was great.

message 2811: by Amy (new)

Amy I feel the same as Alyson. I love the writing style and the way the story was told. There was such sadness and happiness at times too. I felt like I really could identify with the characters and it was a different twist on a werewolf story that I had never heard before.

message 2812: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I've loved Mrs.Frisby several times, as a child and as an adult, and got my (then 13 yo) son and husband to read it and they both loved it.

My (now 14 yo) son just read Ruby in the Smoke and enjoyed it.

message 2813: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Klaassen (librarymom23) My son and I finished Zoobreak by G. Korman tonight.

message 2814: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 35 comments Ah well... I never said the writing was bad, just that I felt like it was beautiful on the outside and hollow on the inside. Too dry. Too brittle. Ready to fall apart. I didn't feel like Sam or Grace had much to them. I remember being frustrated so many times at how flat they felt, at how, for a romance, it wasn't very romantic. I thought the plot dragged and there wasn't enough suspense or feeling to sustain the story. I just felt like Grace was there for Sam because she had separated herself so wholly from everyone else that she had to no where else to go, and no one else to go to. I didn't find their relationship emotionally believable. I remember being really annoyed with the scene in the candy shop, but I don't really remember why.

I think some books just aren't meant for some people. Obviously it is a popular and highly rated book and maybe there is something I am missing, but I would be fibbing if I said I enjoyed it.

message 2815: by Amy (new)

Amy I think more than the romance, it was more about the struggle that Sam felt in staying human and the struggle that Grace felt as she worried about Sam slipping away from her and having no control over it.

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments Brittany - It is true some books aren't for some people. That is okay. I just really loved it actually for some of it's simplicity and for the struggle that Sam and Grace were faced with.

Kellyflower | 136 comments I'm on page 167 of Vixen (Flappers, #1) by Jillian Larkin , which started off slow to me and then I'm on page 44 of an adult book, Rock Me

message 2819: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) I'm still working on the audiobook Annexed by Sharon Dogar , which is the first audiobook I've listened to with a full cast. Pretty nice, actually!

I'm also reading Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher which is good.

It was sad, but it was like Lovely Bones and what i mean by that is that it gave you hope. I need a sequel because the rest of the story was left untold.

message 2824: by Jamilla (new)

Jamilla (jamilla76) | 6 comments Hero, by Mike Lupica was slow in the beginning but it picked up in the middle. It was good book....awaiting the sequel.

I'm about to read the first Scott Pilgrim. One of the teens that comes in regular loves it and always tells me that I should read it because one of the characters is vegan. I think I've waited so long because I haven't really been able to get into manga.

I definitely have this on my "to read." Can't wait to hear what people think of it.

Madeline | 89 comments I think I'm going to attempt this Script Writing thing... for the sake of practice. I have a graphic novel that I want to illustrate, but the writing, not so much. This gives me an excuse to try, even if it comes out total trash at least I'll have made a start. Thank for sharing Heather! :)

message 2831: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) I've just started The Chosen One on audio which is about a FLDS girl. So far, so depressing!

I finally finished Annexed, which was depressing as well.

I'll have to pick a "light" read also. I can't stand to read too many sad ones in a row!

message 2832: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Lawrence (wendylawrence) | 21 comments Hi! I just finished The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian and am now reading The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm. Loved the first and am loving the second so far! I'm new to the group (at least as a poster), and excited to talk with all of you about the books!

message 2833: by Alan (new)

Alan (alanmccluskey) I finally got down to reading Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. I had been putting off reading it in the hope I'd receive the second book in the Tamora Pierce series about Alanna. I got the third and fourth book but not the second one.
Shiver is great so far.

Amy I just started Captivate by Carrie Jones (which is part of the Need series). I'm liking this second book much better. With the first one, it took me a while to warm up to it. The second one I was hooked right from the first page.

That's how I felt with Need too. I liked it once I got into it, but I felt like Cativate grabbed me sooner.

Izzy I'm currently about halfway through Zombies vs. Unicorns, and though I did get some odd looks while reading it in the doctor's office, some of the stories in it are awesome!

I will! Now I just have to get some research out of the way and better define my plot idea so that I actually have a clue when I start.

I added you as a buddy over there. My username is aeonvilya. :)

Amy Just started Matched by Ally Condie. Liking it so far although it feels like there could be a little more explanation on some things early on versus as the story unfolds.

That sounds great! It might be interested for some of us to work on a project together someday, if the though the distance would make it difficult. I've thought about writing a graphic novel, but I draw horribly.
