Eden Silverfox (tsalagi_writer) | 265 comments I'm reading The Vampire's Assistant by Darren Shan. Really enjoying it.

Funny - I actually thought the first 175-200 pages of Leviathan was slow and only kept with it because a friend said it finally picked up and because we were discussing it in a book club. Funny how different people respond differently to things. I liked several of the secondary characters and the creatures - that part was interesting.

message 2207: by Amy (new)

Amy Are you planning on reading the whole series Eden? I just finished it a couple of weeks ago!

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments Heather wrote: "Alyson (KLF), I must admit that I'm reading fast because I'm trying to catch Kellee in the reading challenge, but the book is helping. I'm really engrossed in it. :)"

I think you liked Inkheart and I thought that was slow too. LOL! Oh well, I think for some people it is an amazing book. Maybe I expected more. Maybe I wanted tighter editing. Maybe I wanted characters that I could feel passionately about and that never happened for me. I still recommend the book but not widely. More to a specific audience.

message 2209: by Laura Beth (new)

Laura Beth (tampabookworm) Started Uglies and am loving it!

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments Misty wrote: "Mine didn't come today. :("

I pre-ordered on Borders and had them deliver to the store. Picked it up mid-day and now about 2/3's done. Amazing book. Collins has out done herself...IMHO.

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments Heather wrote: "I'm so excited! I'm going to get a copy of Mockingjay from the library in the first round of check-outs. I'm number 70 of 538 holds on 80 copies."

You have amazing patience. I on the other hand could not wait for the library. Hence purchasing it. :-)

message 2218: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kirsten27) | 53 comments I'm reading Shadow Hills and liking it. I hated Linger, which was weird, because I loved Shiver. I gave up on Linger after a few chapters. I read Leviathan and thought it was okay.

Amy Snowflower is a wonderful book.

I'm STILL reading Uncharted TerriTori. These darn kindergarten students are making me so tired that I've read maybe five pages in the last three days.

I like Snowflower - read it several years ago now but remember really liking it. And yes, kinders tire you out. Have you read any of Melanie Watt books with them

Chesteror Scaredy Squirrel

They will love them.

Yes, I am. I thought the first two books were great and I can't wait to read the rest.

Did you watch the movie at all? I haven't seen it yet and was wondering if it's good.

message 2231: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) oh gosh - Princess Bride has been my all-time favorite - I bought the anniversary ed. myself but haven't read it yet because I'm savoring the anticipation - and I'm a little nervous that I'll still like it since the other three times I read it were, umm, probably two decades ago!

How was it? I've been wanting to read that book for awhile.

message 2234: by Amy (new)

Amy Alyson: haven't read Melanie Watt yet. We were trying to do school themed books just to get us ready.

Eden: saw the movie and thought it was a pretty decent movie, considering it was supposed to be the first three books. I really enjoyed the series even though it was long. I'll be interested to hear what you think about the ending of the series.

I'm trying to read Dreaming in Hindi for my book club. I've read three pages b/c I've been just so busy. My YA read right now is Jake Ransom and the Skull King's Shadow and I'm really liking it so far.

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Finished Mockingjay. Coming back to reality (which isn't much nicer than Panem) with My Bridges of Hope. It's the autobiography of a girl who made it through the Holocaust.

Read something funny like Ramona or Judy Moody to off-set Mockingjay...you'll need meds after all those war related books.

That's kinda what I was thinking too! I'll have to read a fun one along side... Luckily this autobiography picks up right after they are rescued, so hopefully it won't be as bad anyhow.

message 2241: by Paula (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) I just started Love Is Hell, which is a short story anthology... Funny, sci-fi/paranormal romance stories, pretty cute.

message 2248: by Amy (new)

Amy When I have to return unread books, I just add them back on my "to be requested list." Sometimes (like now) I just can't even find twenty minutes to read anything that's not work related.

When I hear what you wrote Heather and Amy, I'm glad I always bought my books. In fact when I started working a large part of my salary went on books. Now, years later, I'm more reasonable. It's better having the books myself because I tend to make notes in them, even in novels (although less so). It may seem odd to say it, but I feel like I put a little of my soul in the important books I've read... I don't think I could do that if they belonged to the library.

message 2250: by Amy (new)

Amy I used to buy books all the time, but I'm trying to get a grip on my finances and cut on non essentials expenses, and unfortunately, books are on that list unless I can get them from paperback swap.
