What Are You Reading Now?
Thanks for the recommendations. I have heard of most of them but the blurb is never as helpful as a personal recommendation.
Heather wrote: "Reading Extras. Glad I'll get to finish this series before reading Leviathan. I'm still three holds away from my copy of it at the library."I'll be interested to hear what you think of Extras. It was my least favorite of the series (although still really good.)
I'm reading The Haunting by Joan Lowery Nixon. I'm more than half way through it though. It is so good.
I recently finished Need by Carrie Jones. I am about to start North of Beautiful and Bad Girls Don't Die.
Vicki wrote: "I recently finished Need by Carrie Jones. I am about to start North of Beautiful and Bad Girls Don't Die."I loved Bad Girls Don't Die. Hope You enjoy it.
Amy wrote: "I liked Extras okay but by then they really got away from Tally's story and I didn't like that."That's exactly what I thought! It took me a long time to even care about Aya. I missed Tally.
Finished The Haunting and A Living Nightmare, really enjoyed both of them. Now I'm starting Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
I just finished The Red Umbrellaby Christina Diaz Gonzalez. A really nice debut novel and a very touching piece of historical fiction. Got to see her speak recently and she is very charming and really connected well with the older Cuban Americans in the audience. Many who were "Pedro Pans". Reading Copper by Kazu Kibuishi which is a fun, graphic novel.
Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) wrote: "Just finished Graceling and want to start Fire but have some others I must read first."That's the nice thing about those books, they don't have to be read consecutively because the stories are so different. You won't lose anything by waiting.
Yes, it takes place before Graceling and there is character overlap, but the main story itself is different enough that it felt like it's own book to me. Just set in the same kingdom(s). I liked that about it because I'm often let down by sequels.
I'm reading A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libby Bray. Somehow, I'm not enjoying it as much as I thought. I've heard great things about it but for me it's just so so.
I didn't care for A Great and Terrible Beauty either. I was bummed because so many people really love it!
My kids are both gone on trips, so I *should* be reading like crazy, right?! But I've only just cracked l8r, g8r by Lauren Myracle.
I am trying to see if I have enough free time today to devote to Clockwork Angel by Cassie Clare. I have an ARC and I know that once I start I won't want to put it down. If not then I think I will read Flipped before seeing the movie which I hear is well done.
I want to read that, Heather. Looking forward to your review. :PI'm reading Random Magic for review, and I'm also trying to squeeze in some stuff for Helluva Halloween (blog thing), so I can have the reviews ready, so I've been bouncing back and forth between that and Nightshade and Kiss Me Deadly: 13 Tales of Paranormal Love.
Flipped is a great one ... I just finished Wintergirls and am now onto the 2nd Mortal Instruments book, City of Ashes. I am loving the MI series - I find that it has all the drama kids want but is written with more finesse and intellect than say The Twilight Saga.
Twilight Director's Notebook. I've wanted to read it for a while just to see the behind the scenes stuff.
Misty - They are really quick reads...Ramona, Judy Moody, Clementine - some of the funniest 3rd graders out there. Personally not too big of a Junie B. fan though. But you must read at least one Beverly Cleary book in a lifetime.
Have you read Katherine Paterson? Must read her. She is a classic.
Just Bridge to Terabithia. I remember a lot of people in my class loving Jacob Have I Loved, but I had just moved there and they read it before the move, so I never read it.
Jacob, I Have Loved is probably one of my all-time favorites of hers. It really is worth the read. Also the Great Gilly Hopkins is still powerful 30 years later.
I feel like there are a lot of classic younger kids books that I missed out on as a kid, and I need to take a block of time and just immerse myself in them. Those few, some Cleary, Witch of Blackbird Pond (which I own and have never read) -- there are a bunch.
What is nice about MG is that you can usually read then in about 2 hours since they tend to be under 200 pages. But yes, there are so many and even though I have read a lot of MG I still find classics that I missed.
Finished Sons of Destiny so I'm officially done with the Cirque Du Freak series. Starting Marked. Hoping that it's a good read.
I just finished The Book Whisperer: Awakening the Inner Reader in Every Child wonderful ideas for inspiring kids to read.
I'm reading Linger and LeviathanI'm not too sure about Leviathan. But I'm liking Linger more then I did Shiver
Kellyflower wrote: "I'm reading Linger and LeviathanI'm not too sure about Leviathan. But I'm liking Linger more then I did Shiver"
Leviathan picks up around 200 pages. But I never really loved it. I liked the secondary characters better than the main ones.

uh oh, this makes me want to quit reading it now..

I would have quit if it wasn't for friends who encouraged me to keep reading and also because it was for a bookclub I was in. I really don't think it should take a book 150 to 200 pages to pick up.
For me, Leviathan just took an adjustment. I wasn't expecting it to be as young as it is, but once I adjusted to that aspect, I loved it.
Misty wrote: "For me, Leviathan just took an adjustment. I wasn't expecting it to be as young as it is, but once I adjusted to that aspect, I loved it."See that was a question I had...I don't think it was suppose to be "so young".
Not sure why it's taking me so long to get through Recipes for Cherubs, considering I really liked it the first time I read it. Moved on to Sticky Fingers by Niki Burnham.
I started Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy by Gary D. Schmidt this past weekend, and just haven't had any time to read!
I'm quiting Leviathan and have started reading A Dog's Life: Autobiography of a Stray with my two boys.

After finishing Graceling, I read Don't Judge a Girl by Her Cover and Only the Good Spy Young, and now I'm reading Heist Society. All by Ally Carter.
I'll be going through Ally Carter withdrawal next week, after I finish Heist Society. I think I've read all of her books.
