Caroline Aps Remus, Sirius and Fred.
They should have lived.

Beau I don;t remember her dying"

Hi, Laura. We've discussed that while JK Rowling left Lavender's death up in the air in the books, it's movie canon.

message 203: by Naomi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Naomi Lupin and Tonks, Sirius Black, and Fred Weasley

Jennifer Dupriest Snape and Sirius....

hmmm and Fred

DOBBY!!!!!!!

message 206: by [deleted user] (new)

Dobby seems to be missed a lot. Personally, I MISS HIM TOO

message 207: by Alba (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alba THE DARK LORD
Just kidding...I would save Fred, Sirius because his death was really sad and unexpected and then...probably Dobby, poor thing. I think it was Dumbledore's time to die, and Snape's too because he already saved Harry...

message 208: by Lori (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lori Dobby, Fred and Sirius.

Oh man, so many... Fred, Remus, and Tonks. Snape, Sirius and Dumbledore's deaths had this huge meaning to them within the whole plotline, and the book would have been weaker if it weren't for their deaths.

Snape showed how truly merciless and emotionless Voldemort was, and his death revealed so much backstory with Lily that would have been less powerful if he had just told it to Harry.

Dumbledore, I feel, created a drive within Hogwarts to kill Voldemort once and for all. He died to save Hogwarts by allowing Snape to stay a trusted advisor, therefore allowing him to stay on the inside.

Sirius created pure emotion. In a way, he was the last family Harry had, and then he was gone. I mean of course he had the Weasley's and Lupin and everyone, but Sirius was his godfather, appointed by his own parents. There was a bond between the two of them that got severed too soon. However I do think that his death impacted Harry in a way that added to his drive and his devotion to ridding the world of Voldemort.

Fred, however, was a heartbreaking casualty that I wish to take back. Yes, he created a HUGE heartbreak, and showed just how hard that war hit the wizarding world. I'm glad that J.K. Rowling was able to create such an impact with a single death... but I love Fred, and wish he was alive.

Remus and Tonks had an entire life together with Teddy ahead of them. Teddy is going to have to grow up without them, and that just breaks my heart! Granted, he has Harry, the Weasley's, and entire family that can help him... but they aren't the same as parents.

Allyson CEDRIC (his death was the most rugged death in the series for me because I don't think he would've been willing to die the death he did. If he were, say, to die during the TriWizard Tournament, it would've been a different story because he knew it was life-threatening, but he did it anyway, but because he died because of Voltemort...yeah, he'd be resurrected)
FRED (His death did not bother me as much of Cedric's because Fred knew what he was signing up for, he gambled his life for something he really believed him and he died for it. I bet he, like almost all the characters in the book, had no regrets about his death. I bet Fred's only regret about his death is leaving poor Gorge behind.)
Sirius (because other than the Weasleys, he was pretty much the closest thing Harry for a loving family)

Allyson Fred, Sirius and Snape. None of them had to die. George needs Fred, Harry needed Sirius and Snape deserved a better life.

I wouldn't pick anyone apart from Dumbledore because then the story would just turn out different which I don't want to happen. Now you may be thinking well if Dumbledore lives then the story would change right? But if Dumbledore lives nothing much would change expect he will know some more things, and that Hogwarts won't be bad when they come in to Hogwarts. Imagine the book with Harry's Parent alive? I t would be so boringf

message 214: by S (new) - rated it 5 stars

S Austine Dobby, Snape, Fred and Sirius.

message 215: by Ashley (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ashley Welkinawe Sirius, Dobby, Fred.

I cried so hard when Sirius died and at that part in the movie I started crying at the beginneng of the scene knowing it was coming. It just felt like such a waste.
I thought the death scene of Dobby in the movie was very, very well done. He would not have been on the list for me if that scene hadn't been so touching.
And Fred. What is the dinamic duo without one of the twins?
I did not put Dumbledoor because he lived a very long life. Snape was sad but we spent so long hating him it felt right that he should be redeemed as he died. Tonks and Lupin kind of made me mad because they had a new baby who needed them but I wasn't as invested in their characters.

I agree with what someone said above. Each character had to die to develope Harry.

Alena I think everyone who died had a reason and helped Harry grow as a character. Then again if I could save one person, it would be Sirius.

message 222: by Olivia (last edited Sep 02, 2013 09:01PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Olivia Fred, Snape & Dobby! With Fred and Dobby, other than illustrating the general yet horrific reality of death in war, there wasn't any specific reason for their death's.

With Snape however, there is the old Shakespearean theme of redemption - think of Othello. Snape needed to die in the end to be completely redeemed. Also, it meant that on some level, he could be "re-united" with Lily Potter.

message 223: by Spa (last edited Sep 16, 2013 10:43PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Spa ok - disagree with me but bellatrix was so awesome and do ALL the evil characters have to die?? i woulda saved lotsa ppl
Fred, though i agree tht a weasley had to die i think percy woulda been a better pick mainly bc of the recent reconciliation and for heavens sake wat about gred and forge?
Sirius was awesome but with all his flaws... and also Harry wouldnt have been able to grow up as well with sirius
Dumbledore - needed to die at some point - JKR definitely picked a good point
Lupin/Tonks - loved them one of em had to die and you really cant have just one of them
Dobby - gosh i love him but it was such a poignant moment when he died and it really motivated Harry
so honestly i would save bellatrix, fred, and maybe colin creevey and hedwig

Saxonjus Remus,Tonks & Fred

Snape died protecting his true love's child.Sirius I feel Harry would gain more fartherly advice frim Arthur Weasley.Dumbledore had lived his life to the full and his legacy will have lived on through Hogwarts.

Now if you asked which character should have died!

Malfoy's father

Alhanoof Dobby, Sirius and Fred

Jessica In order: Dobby, Tonks, Hedwig, Fred

Laurel Sirius! Let's please save Sirius!

message 231: by C (last edited Sep 14, 2013 07:56AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

C 1. Dobby - His death was like the unnecessary death of an innocent. He was so pure, so, well, innocent, that I literally could not stop weeping when I read that last sentence in the chapter "Malfoy Manor". I really do despise Bellatrix (it's my username because I think she is an interesting character, not because she is liked by myself).

2. Fred - I understand why J. K. killed him off, but I feel like he was in the prime of life, and then brutally, his future has been annihilated by the snipping of his thread of life. He really did not deserve to die. Percy was completely justified in his rage, and his decision to pursue Rookwood. After all, it was the latter's explosion that ended Fred's life.

3. Sirius - I always get teary when I think about his promise to Harry that "when this is all over, we'll be a proper family". It is so cruel that Sirius, Harry's central father figure, had to die when Harry had thought that he had a chance at a real home and loving family.

message 232: by Saima (new) - rated it 4 stars

Saima Siddiqui Sirius and Dumbledore.

message 233: by Jesse (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jesse Fred because George will probably never joke around again without his brother. Also, J. K. Rowling said that George later marries Angelina Johnson, Fred's girlfriend. Doesn't that sound just a little problematic and awkward?:)

message 234: by Katie (new)

Katie I think there was a lot of people that didn't have to die, but it made the books have more feeling and reality. I would save Lupin and Tonks, Sirius, and Snape.

message 235: by Beau (new) - rated it 5 stars

Beau So my favorite thing about this thread is that many of the reasons you've all given for saving them are amazing. These characters didn't deserve to die, but that's the point. You were supposed to be left there tears in your eyes trying to figure out why the hell Dobby, possibly the most innocent character in the story had to die. Cause that's the way war is. Children die, brothers, sister, lovers, they all die.

People die, and the ones left standing didn't deserve to live anymore than the ones who died deserved death. They were simply lucky. Lucky enough to dive out of the way in time, or behind a wall.

I do have to disagree with whoever said Bellatrix. I think she had to die, otherwise we'd have this extremely loyal follower who is totally insane, and "loves" Voldemort. She'd have been hunting Harry until one of them died.

Michael Snape, Lupin, Sirius

Saxonjus I would have liked to have saved Professor Snape! He gave so much up for the love of his life! He was strong & loyal to her always.I would have liked to have seen Harry have a better relationship with him!

Jus

Claire Everyone died for the plot to work, but I would personally choose Snape.

message 239: by Iris (new) - rated it 4 stars

Iris Tonks. Everyone else I could live with not being there. But second place would go to Fred because who doesn't love the twins? And lastly Hedwig. Poor Owl didn't know what hit him.
