When I first started this book, I was under the impression that this was written in a woman's POV. The woman on the cover isn't our MC, like I originally thought. She's trouble.
I was feeling lukewarm towards this story at about 45% in but it really picked up pace at about the halfway point. I liked the characters and having ink myself, thought that the idea of mixing potions into ink was pretty intriguing.
The characters were my favorite part though. I probably will continue this series later in time but I don't have the urge to get my hands on the next in the series immediately.

Brief Review:
I apologize in advance to someone else reading this brief diatribe if you're a fan of this novel. I have been waiting for the past 4-5 books in BDB series for Blay and Qhuinn to finally realize that they were meant for each other, but I was reallllllly let down by this book. I guess it didn't meet my expectations for what their story should have been. There wasn't enough chemistry/passion. For an unrequited love story, the angst was boring. I don't know. Arggh.
I am just over the whole BDB series. I'm tired of the Lessers. I'm tired of the shitkickers. I'm tired of the babypowder smell. I'm tired of the way they talk, true? I'm just tired. Tired! I don't plan to read any more of Ward's series. I find myself fighting not to skim entire sections of the books. *Grumble*

I'm sorry that you were disappointed by LaL. I'm still a fan of the Warden but I understand. Hell... I'm pretty sure most of us are dedicated Lesser Skimmers. :/

I'm hoping to be done by the weekend, I'll probably have book boyfriends read before that one is finished. *note to self, pick smaller books*
Yeah the lessers are annoying. I used to skip right over the parts that were entire chapters dedicated to their thoughts and ruminations. Thank GOD we don't have to hear things from their POV anymore. I haven't read LAL but please tell me she didn't start that again.
Danielle RatherReadThanWork wrote: "Yeah the lessers are annoying. I used to skip right over the parts that were entire chapters dedicated to their thoughts and ruminations. Thank GOD we don't have to hear things from their POV anymo..."The point of view was all over the place in LAL. I felt like that there was very little of the book actually focused on Blay/Qhuinn. (view spoiler) It's almost like an after thought.
Carrie, Golden sounds like a good book. Read some good reviews! Looking forward to hearing what you think of it.
I started it a little while ago, took a little break to check out the Bruins/Hawks game. Looking forward to curling up and reading more in bed later on. It's really good so far. I'm 24% into it.

Review: In Golden we have two stories taking place, we have Parker. The good girl, a straight A student who never does anything that could jeopardize her future plan, because she is too scarred to take that risk, too scared she will disappoint her mother.
And we have Julianna, forever remembered as part of the perfect couple, their image frozen in time. A beautiful and tragic love story. But the story in her journal tells the tale a little differently.

Golden sounds intriguing. Something I'll keep in mind for the future.I started the tome that is
a couple nights ago. Not for a shelf, just for fun in between. Don't know if any of you have read Sanderson's stuff, but his magical worlds blow me away. I'm really enjoying it so far, and hoping the length doesn't make me lose interest. I don't read a lot of epic fantasies anymore because of how long the books tend to be.
It was cheap for Kindle a couple months ago, maybe $2.99? I kind of wanted the real book because there are some illustrations and maps but the thing is ginormous. If you get a chance, you should read Mistborn. It's pretty well received by most people :)
We got our new shelf, Strong Heroines. I'm bummed because I picked a Maria V. Snyder book last week that I would read for this category, but I just realized that it's from the Strong Heroine shelf (singular, not plural). Ah well!
I found another book that I have on hand, though it's not PNR/UF. I'm going to read Catching Jordan about a female football player.
I was just coming to let y'all know about the new shelf but I saw that someone beat me to it. :)I'm still out for the day but I'll update our main post when I get home.

Brief Review:
This was a young adult story of unrequited love. I was a little concerned that the author was going to throw the heroine's love interest one way instead of another, but I was happy to see that the author read my mind in the end. :)
I ended up docking it half a star (down from 4) because the ending was kind of abrupt. It left me feeling like there was more story to tell, and I wished that she would continue the series with the focus on the two characters in college. I did a peek and the next book in the series is a different group of characters from the same high school. Oh well.

I'm starting my strong heroines book today and I hope to be done with it in a day or two.
Wow Flib, you were super fast with the heroines shelf! I looked through the entire shelf list last night and nothing really jumped out at me. I do have Cinder on hand so I'll try that one.
Vivian wrote: "Wow Flib, you were super fast with the heroines shelf!"Yeah, young adult books read pretty darn fast sometimes. It was 4 hours for about 230 pages.
There's a handful of these books I could read, just need to narrow it down. I'm paying attention to page count now.

This is the typical YA Paranormal Romance book. It's fluffy and made me very happy when I was reading it. Evie has shades of early Buffy going on. She's very girly but I didn't find that annoying. It helps that she's strong enough to fend for herself, usually.
I loved Lend too. The cover is very pretty but it doesn't quite match the story.
This book follows Evie as she goes through her jobs at the ICPA as the only known agent (or person) who can see through the glamours that paranormals cast. Then all hell breaks lose. Tricky fae abound. Although there are plenty of deaths, I never got the feeling that the book was heavy. I'm definitely going to read the rest of the trilogy.
hehehe. I only didn't answer since I read and posted my review earlier...I'm beta-reading a book right now for an author and having fun doing that :)
I'm supposed to be doing that as well. I guess I should go do that then instead of harassing y'all. :)
I love reading this particular author's books because she lets me write snarky comments and then responds back to me about them. I send it to her in chapters. good fun :)
Just FYI, tomorrow I'm going to be out and about all day so when the shelf is announced feel free to update us all. A couple of the guys from Swamp People are going to be in my neck of the woods, so I'll be there and not by the computer. :)
Hi ladies! I have attempted my book (Cinder) and am not feeling it. I'll scroll through the lost tomorrow and find a new book. I've been testing out a crochet pattern for someone, so that's taking up my free time this week. I just looked up Swamp People, sounds crazy! Are they filming in hour area tomorrow? I'm from California, the only alligators I've seen are at fairs or zoos haha.
Off to try a new Mexican restaurant tonight. Yum!
Not filming, there's a Native American festival they'll be at tomorrow and its only an hour from my house so I'm going. I used to live near the swamps but I'm currently in a landlocked state. No gators here either.
I'm sorry you weren't feeling Cinder. Personally, I didn't love it either though I found it was a quick read.
I'm going with
as my new Strong heroines pick but gotta wait for it to come in to my branch so it'll be a at least a few days before I get to it. Meanwhile, I'll wait around for the new shelf :)
New Shelf: Cover LoveSeriously? I just read Angelfall and its on the list. Like read it yesterday, just finished it. *sigh*
I'll either be reading
or
Dang library due dates...
Okay, for this week (COVER LOVE), I am in a toss-up over two different books...There's UF - Stormwalker. I love Jennifer Ashley historicals, so I figure I would likely enjoy this audiobook by the author under one of her other names.
Then, there's a contemporary - Tangled. I've heard lots of good things about this one, including that it's funny. I might be able to use some humor this week. My birthday is coming up on Tuesday.
Anybody have any thoughts on either of these?
Cristina (a book away from an episode of hoarders) wrote: "I've not read Tangled but I liked Stormwalker."I might just read 'em both this week :)
Did you like Angelfall Cristina? I thought it was such a unique book for the genre and really loved it and looking forward to the sequel. It's a little fuzzy but the end (view spoiler).I've heard good things about Stormwalker Flib. Tangled sounds fun too, I've been enjoying my CR books lately.
ETA: Happy early birthday!
Inspired by Cristina's read of Paranormalcy, I went with
for this week's book (Cover Love).Finished: June 23
Rated: 3 stars
Overall, the book was a quick read but the main reason for the lower rating was I found Evie really annoying in this book. She had some TSTL tendencies and spent a lot of time whining about her boring life and how much she missed her boyfriend. We did find out a little about where she came from, which was interesting but lacked detail. There were some funny lines, and I still like the innocence that Evie has. I do think the series is worth continuing because I'm hopeful that Evie will redeem herself in the next book and we'll get more answers to the questions raised in this one.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
