R7: Team #4 ~ 4get the Competition

Stamp update: We need two more reviews for both our free space and our Book Boyfriend shelves. Team 6 are the only ones who have both the free space and the assassins stamps so we are doing pretty well.

I'm going to buckle down and finish Lover Awakened today.
*pumps fist*
GO TEAM!!!

I've only got about 85 pages left of A Clash of Kings so I should finish it tomorrow (finally). I think I'm going to try and read a shorter book for this shelf. All the books I've read this month have been 500+ pages and I just want a quick read now. :)

This is book is the reason why I love the Brotherhood. This is the book you take with you to the deserted island no matter how many times you've read it before.
I’m doing a re-read to see what I missed the first time around, and I missed a LOT in this book.
I forgot how sweet John was as a pre-trans. He was just a kid who finally found a real family and then he gets an in your face introduction to the lessers and what the Brotherhood is doing to protect the species. Speaking of the lesser, I miss Mr. X. He was so organized. Mr. O was a hot mess. It was so frustrating reading about his obsession with Bella while the Society was falling apart. Not that I’m a fan of the lessers in general, but there is something to be said about and organized bad guy. It keeps everyone on their toes.
Then there’s Zsadist. I forgot how great of a character he is. Once he opened up and let people in he was even better. I’m not going to go into details about all of it because the roller coaster of it all is just too much to sum up in a few sentences.
Okay, show of hands: Who else would have LOVED it if Phury slipped Rehvenge the tongue? I know that would have never happened, but one can only hope!

Lilac, you get some serious props for tackling A Clash of Kings. the thought of trying a book more than 700 pages makes my head spin.
Jenne and Alyssa, how you doing?! :)

This was just as good as A Game of Thrones, with engaging characters and an interesting plot. In this one you really get to see more of all the characters and I really came to like some that I wasn't keen on in A Game of Thrones (Catelyn, Sansa and especially Tyrion). It did drag a bit in the middle, with 200-300 pages being a little boring, but the ending definitely made up for that.
I've decided to read Pride and Prejudice next, which fits both book boyfriends and strong heroines so I'll decide which one to count it for later on.

That sucks that one team is already set up for a four in a row :(

I've read the first three books in the Paladins of Darkness series and I loved the characters and original world building.
Hopefully, we will have another round soon if the game ends quickly :0/

I've been around, just lurking in the corners.
My Free Space book is done. I just need to write up a post for it, hopefully tonight.

I can handle the villains smelling like baby powder because I like the smell of baby powder. But I'm so with you on the dialogue of the brothers.
In my slow re-read, I've noticed that they didn't start out that badly. But as the series progresses, the brothers sound like they've de-evolving. In the last book, Lover At Last, Ward made Butch sound like an idiot with her phonetic spelling of his Boston accent.

The Paladins are Earth's guardians. Anytime the others break free and cross the barrier to Earth it's their job to kill them before the wreck havoc on Earth. Devlin is more or less the leader of The Paladins. They have medical and research teams that monitor everything because while they are able to come back from death one of those times they'll come back insane and have to be put down. Laurel is Devlin's doctor/handler and there's no denying the sparks between them. But what if the person you're in love with you may have to kill one day because he's a danger to himself and others. But Laurel makes Devlin feel more human and it seems to be helping him and diminishing the chances of him becoming insane. It turns out that they have bigger problems though, someone has ordered a hit on Devlin and it's obvious that they have a mole somewhere.
My thoughts:
For a PNR book this one was unique and didn't fall into the cookie cutter form that so many PNR books do. It was a quick enjoyable read and I will be reading more in the future.

This was more like a kids book than a YA book like I was expecting, but it was still an interesting read. The language and plot were quite simple and the characters weren't very in depth but I still enjoyed it because it was quick and fun. It was fun watching the main characters unravel the mystery and figuring out what their world was. I just wish I'd read it when I was about 9 or 10 because I think I'd have enjoyed it much more. Actually, I'm thinking of giving it to my little brother in hope that he'll read it and get invested in the story (it's certainly something boys could read and if he likes it hopefully he'll start reading more, like I did at his age).

Keep up the good work, ladies!

Review: I love Cat and Bones. I didn't love this one as much as some of the others, but it was still pretty good. I love it when Cat kicks butt. I'm going to start on the first Vlad book some time soon. Can't wait for the next Cat and Bones book to come out next year.

Sorry that I'm a little behind. I'm in the process of moving, which is so not fun. On the plus side, I'll be organizing all the books I have scattered around my room. So, maybe I'll find out how many I have. I think it's a lot. Haha.
Goodreads is gonna come in handy for organizing them. I have to put most of them in storage right now. :-( So, I'm gonna number the boxes I put them in, and then make shelves for each box. Then, I'll just put the boxes at the front of my storage unit. If I need a book, I can get to it easily, cuz my unit is right next door to my work. This might be the only thing that I'm excited about with this whole moving thing. I hate packing.

This was a lot better for me than Once Burned.
I made the mistake of peeking at the last page while waiting for a long light on the way home from work, so the thrill of a cliff hanger was lost during my commute. Anyway, Leila and Vlad make a great pair. He can start a fire on a whim and she can shoot electricity out of her hand. Who wouldn't want them as friends?
I still don't understand how Leila's sister Gretchen and their father fit in with everything, but I figure the family element is a staple for Frost. I can only imagine something will happen in the next book that will bring Leila's dad around to the idea that it's not all that bad his daughter's involved with the badass of all badass vampires.

I'm just not in the mood for

Review:
After reading and disliking the first book in this series, I decided not continue. However, I recently discovered a later installment in a box of second hand books and The Maze fit into this challenge, so I thought I'd give it another chance - big mistake!
The plot starts out well enough with an FBI recruit in search of the serial killer responsible for her sister's death but goes straight downhill from there. The story development is ridiculous and contrived, the writing and dialogue are atrocious and the characterization is just plain weird.
The heroine, Lacey Sherlock, is supposed to be a well-trained, intelligent FBI agent but her TSTL moments abound and the jokes about her name are tedious. The hero, Dillon Savich, is sexy and the romance and sexual tension are tantalizing but not enough to save the book from being a dud.
The secondary cast is moronic from the smarmy brother-in-law and his rabid new wife to the jealous ex-girlfriend and the pitifully clichéd villain - all are painfully one dimensional and add nothing to the story aside from a number of absurd and perhaps even comic situations that I doubt the author was striving for.
All in all, an unrealistic and poorly written attempt to cash in on the success of Thomas Harris's The Silence of the Lambs. If you want a riveting FBI focused book, read that one instead.

Hopefully your next one will make up for it!
I'm leaving for Vegas on Wednesday, I'm going to do my best to try and finish this weeks book before I leave.

This was my first Austen novel and I've got to say I quite enjoyed it, though not as much as I'd expected to. It was really interesting reading a book written and set so long ago and seeing how things were done in those days. Before reading it I thought it'd be fun living in that time but now I think it'd be too tedious having to be well behaved all the time and being judged on everything you do. The story itself didn't really grab me but I really liked part 3, where so much happens. (view spoiler) ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

So far, I'm planning on reading

I'll probably read

Happy reading, everyone!

Sometimes it's worth it to go through the so-so books to get to the good ones.
