Need some good books to read
Arun Arun May 27, 2013 01:34PM
So, I have been studying for exams for a long time so haven't read a book in a while, but now that my exams are over I want to start reading again. I haven't really read that many books before but I really enjoyed the Hunger Games trilogy, the Harry Potter series and the first two books of the Divergent trilogy. I would really appreciate if some people could recommend some good books for me to read. I've also been told to read The Mortal Instruments books and the Gone series by a friend, so if you agree that they are good series please let me know, so I'll know to read those. Thank you :)

The Mortal Instruments series is AMAZING! Here it is: City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls

Undeadly by Michele Vail.

Dark Visions by L.J. Smith.

The Rules by Stacey Kade.

Delirium, Pandemonium, and Requiem by Lauren Oliver.

Unearthly, Hallowed, and Boundless by Cynthia Hand.

Immortal City and Natural Born Angel by Scott Speer.

If you're looking for a dystopian-type book, I haven't read many. I do like Delirium. That was a good read! Not as action packed in the first book as Divergent is, but an interesting story line.

I can mainly recommend Paranormal Romance, its what seems to hold my interest most. Some I like are:

The Summoning (Darkest Powers, #1) by Kelley Armstrong Chloe has to go to a group home for crazy kids, but finds out she's not so crazy afterall, and there is more going on than meets the eye.
Something Witchy This Way Comes by Veronica Blade Tessa finds out she might have powers and there is a choice to be made of the 'Good' team vs. the 'bad' team. She just needs to figure out which is which, along with getting her emotions in order. Hayden can be a persistent jerk, but he sure is sexy! Yum :)
Obsidian (Lux, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Katy finds out secrets of the teens next door when she moves to a small town (not your average supernatural story).

A lot have already been said. Definitely give The Mortal Instruments a go! The spin-off is a great read too. Also, Vampire Academy was mentioned and that's an awesome read! Its going to be a movie next year :)

Hope I helped!

The Program by Suzanne Young is very good. It just came out recently. ^^

-Angelfall by Susan Ee (if you want some dystopia and a really awesome book in general)

-This is what happy looks like by Jennifer E. Smith (if you want a cute summer read)

-Just one Day by Gayle Forman (which is not only about romance but also a lot about finding yourself, friendship and traveling)

-Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor (if you've had enough of vampires, werewolves and all their other friends)

Well, for this genre, I'd add Birthmarked by Caragh Obrien and Delirium.

If you want something paranormal, I'd recommend Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampire series, Shiver , Meg Cabot's Mediator series, and Chole Neill's Chicagoland vampire series. (she has another series I haven't read, but is supposed to be really good.)

Other random books: Juliet Immortal, Annie, Between the States, Before I Fall, Heart of Stone, Bitter End, The Irish Princess, The Clearing, Sister Wife, My Heart Remembers, Girl, Stolen, One Night That Changes Everything, Rachel's Tears: The Spiritual Journey of Columbine Martyr Rachel Scott, The Road of Lost Innocence: The True Story of a Cambodian Heroine, Perfect Chemistry, Perfect You, The Chosen One, Sold, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Speak, Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, Gianna: Aborted...and Lived to Tell about It, Redeeming Love, Still Missing, and pretty much anything by Jody Hedlund, Julie Lessman, and Liz Curtis Higgs.

I think Divergent and Maze Runner are very similar or at least to me :)

And another good series is Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness but it's nothing like Divergent and more Sci-Fi

How is Delirium? I always see it around
And I couldn't get into Uglies

@jordan, Unwholly (the second book) is actually really good. I think it works as a series but it was good as a stand alone too.

The Mortal Instruments is my all time favorite series. For dystopia, I liked Unwind, just like them ^^. It's really creepy but well written and just interesting. Apparently it's a series, but I like it as a stand alone, so I haven't read the other books. But definently recommend, that

I just finished Slated and loved it. The only downside is that its sequel Fractured doesn't come out in the US until September 2013 (though it's available in the UK).

Unwind is definitely a good choice. Same with the Mortal Instruments. I recommend the Beautiful Creatures books, Delirium by Lauren Oliver, and the Matched Trilogy by Allie Condie.
