What Are You Reading Now? Pt 2.
It took me 3 attempts to get along with dragon tattoo but it was brilliant then I found myself bogged down with hornets nest but ended up rating all 3 books 4★
Everyone keeps telling me "get through the first 60 pages and it's great!" Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the hell out of the films (hence my great confidence in "Gunslingers" director) so no question the story is top notch. I just couldn't get through the dissertation on the Swedish banking industry.
I only tried again because I bought the trilogy and after 80 pages dragon tattoo is a fab story but very hard to get into at the start I agree
Reading Robert McCammon's "The Border". 50 pages in an loving it! I've read every one of his and he's next favorite author after King.
ohhhhh thanks for the recommendation Patrick! I totally dug "Swan Song" and then this guy just dropped off my radar. Definitely adding this one to the list. If anyone's curious "Swan Song" is basically a post apocalyptic fantasy epic very similar to "The Stand."
The first time I attempted Dragon Tattoo I only made it through the first few chapters and lost interest. But I gave it a chance, and I'm sooo glad I did. Love it.
I totally agree with the McCammon recommendation. The guy is a hidden gem and absolutely lights out. Check out his Wolf's Hour, Boy's Life, They Thirst, Stinger, The Border, and Mine. Great, great stuff!!
Currently into the latter stages of The Way of Kings, Part 1 by Brandon Sanderson, breezing through The Final Detail by Harlen Coben, and have just started Fables, Vol. 2: Animal Farm by Bill Willingham.Eagerly anticipating Brandon Sanderson's book signing in London on Monday for his new Mistborn novel, Shadows of Self!
Oh, and very ready to start Pet Sematary (see buddy reads)!
Just finished my reread of Pet Sematary one of my all time favourites. Now I'm starting A Head Full of Ghosts, recommended by King on twitter I hope it's a good one :)
I'm currently reading The Last Man by Mary Shelley and re-reading A Clash of Kings by George R. R. Martin... And I think I'm going to join you with the re-reading of Pet Sematary if it's not too late!

Gavin wrote: "I'm reading And Then There Were None"Ohhhhh Dame Agatha...I love her. Ms. Marple is my absolute favorite detective.
Just posted my review of Salem's Lot. check it out at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...Gearing up for a read (listen to) of Pet Cemetery, as soon as I finish a really nice YA comedy satire, The Daughter Claus.
How is it, Terri? I was going to take that out at the library tonight instead of Misery. I went in for IT or Salems Lot but I would have had to order them in so I settled on Misery. What do you think of Needful Things so far?

What audiobook version of Pet Sematary will you read/listen to? Oddly enough this one does not have an unabridged commercial version, only a dramatized one. I recently listened to a quite good british recording narrated by Christopher Saul. Nice rev of Salem's Lot btw.
I am usually not a fan of sports books nor do I read a lot of non-fiction, but I just bought my grandson BOYS in the BOAT for Halloween and am reading it before sending it off to him AND.... LOVING it !!!WHAT a story , the rowing team that defeats Hitler's elite in the 1936 Olympics/ WHAT characters = such an interesting character study of this dedicated, determined western college coach and his hard-scrabble, lumberjack boys going against the moneyed , sophisticated eastern Ivies = cannot put it down!

Thanks Jaro. I really loved Salem's Lot... as you can tell. I spoke too soon, just assumed that there would be an audio (thought there was of everything but THE DEAD ZONE). They do have the BBC version for $99 used. That's a little steep. I've already got the paperback... guess I'll go with that, but it does leave me looking for an audio for my commutes. It may be time for a return to Tom Robbins.
I'm currently re-reading Furiously Happy, by Jenny Lawson, it is truly one of my favourite books. And on a separate note (and I know this prob isn't the right thread) but I'm ALSO currently Downtown Toronto at a book signing for Jenny Lawson :)

Cool!

Sounds good... I'll have to check it out (not it Toronto, of course. The Blue Jays are currently letting me down and making me not want to visit the northeast again for quite some time).
@yeah, I know right? They are totally tanking right now! I had such high hopes, too. But I do highly recommend reading either of Lawson's books.
Sara wrote: "At least you guys made the playoffs...damn Yankees...(musical theatre pun intended)."How do we tie this into Mr. King... The girl who loved tom gordon and all those other King books where someone was listening to a red sox game. There's a trivia question for you... name at least five. The red sox did poorly, I'm mostly a SF giants fan, so no hope there.
I recently finished Cat's Cradle and Thinner. Now I'm continuing my Halloween read with Skeleton Crew.
Just finished the epically awesome audio of Sabriel narrated by my boyfriend Tim Curry. High fantasy by a modern master. Now I am falling in love with The Tsar of Love and Techno: Stories

I know that King wrote a book called FEVER PITCH; never read it, but it sounds like it might be something in which the Red Sox were mentioned?
I'm reading The Rosie Project. I didn't expect it to be this funny. The laugh is welcome, because while everyone is talking about baseball, I'm holding out hope for the Cubs.
In the middle of The Survivor. My first book by this author and I'm surprisingly impressed. A mystery/thriller that is beautifully written. So far it's worthy of five stars and I'm only halfway through it.

Can't find a BOOK by King called fever pitch... maybe a short story. The movie Fever Pitch, of course, is all about the Red Sox. If THEY had made the playoffs we'd surely be watching Old Stevie in the stands.
Could you be talking about Faithful: Two Diehard Boston Red Sox Fans Chronicle the Historic 2004 Season?
Kandice wrote: "Could you be talking about Faithful: Two Diehard Boston Red Sox Fans Chronicle the Historic 2004 Season?"That must be it. Great!! Thanks Kandice. Stephen King chronicles the Boston Red Sox championship season. Just got a copy. The paperback is 20¢ more than the e-book.
Really enjoyed Departure by A.G. Riddle now reading Missing you by Harlan Coben I don't rate him much but giving him another try
Started reading Career of Evil, by Robert Galbraith! So excited to read more about the coolest detective in London, Cormoran Strike :) been waiting over a year for this one!
Finished The High Window
by Raymond Chandler.Philip Marlowe is fast becoming my favorite detective of all time. It is unusual for a character to be so interesting and simultaneously the writing to be so vivid and entertaining that the author can describe him staring at a wall and still make it a worthwhile read; but Chandler's Marlowe fits such a bill. He is an idealist but not naive, witty without being juvenile, he is a cynic but his worldview is not so gloomy or bleak that it alienates any particular section of readers.
Noir tropes and quotable one liners galore but what pushes it to a 5 star instead of 4 is the plot. It is possibly among his most consistent and complex ones with little to no dependence on crazy coincidences that plagued some of his earlier books. Rating - 5/5.

Seriously I could not get through "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" to save my life.
Currently I am reading David Mitchell's latest "Slade House" which seems pretty excellent so far. Also "Salem's Lot" because I prefer my living dead to be either Gary Oldman or when that isn't possible at least not sparkly. Just finished Garth Nix's "Sabriel " on audio (amazing narration by Tim Curry). "Bradstreet Gate" by Robin Kirman which was awful and I'm deciding if I want to go down the rabbit hole of something called "Jesus, Pope Francis and a Protestant Walk Into a Bar."
