Ellinor (1001andmore) I have a short question: I just finished a book which has less than 160 pages. If I remember correctly from the May RaT we were allowed to use books with less than 160 pages then. Will that also be possible this time?

Unfortunately, there's not a short answer, Ellinor. You may only use a book less than 160 pages if you have a "blinkie" cupcake, which you currently do not, as you have no cupcakes from the R-a-T.

However, you still have the opportunity to earn a "blinkie" cupcake here.

If you don't understand "blinkies," don't worry about it. The person I think I'll be able to help out Magenta Mix-up will.

I've finished Wild Montana Sky. Can I count it as seven letters in the title, since Montana has seven letters?"

Sorry, no. Seven letters in the title would only count if it was one (or fewer) words. However, the author's last name for that book works.

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments Would this book be considered a T for the spelling with the title?
12th of Never

Turtlecollector, the Mods have decided NOT to allow this one. We don't want to set that precedence. We may use numbers somehow in the future, or even Round III.

This is based on numbers like 1, which could be read as one or first.

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments Okay, thanks.

Clarification: Cat#2 & #3 (Ahead and Behind)

For Categories #2 & #3 of the 7% Solution Challenge the Team ahead and behind does NOT change every week. It is determined by the last Sunday Updates in May and June.

When July 1st comes, members may begin using additional colors, if you have any change in who is ahead or behind you on the last Sunday Update in June. You may continue using the old colors, too.

message 211: by Aneeqah (new)

Aneeqah | 322 comments Mods, feel free to delete this post if you find it spam-my, but we're having a buddy read for Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky ( Awaken (Awaken, #1) by Katie Kacvinsky ) over here, if anyone is interested in another buddy-read for Category #4! =)

That is fine, Aneeqah. We'll leave it there.

message 213: by Barb (new)

Barb My team captain has asked me to try to figure this out, and I'm stumped!

Can someone please summarize for me what is required in order to get credit for a buddy read? I've read through this whole thread at least twice, but the rules have changed several times, and I'm confused. If it helps at all, the book in question is Dracula, which is, I think, an existing buddy read somewhere here in NBRC. Thanks!

~ “Buddy Reads” and the 7% Solution Challenge ~

With regards to the 7% Solution Challenge taking place within the Tower Teams Reading Challenge, the Mods have decided that you do NOT need to create a day’s worth of DQs to satisfy Category #4 - Books of the Month or any impromptu “buddy reads.”

As far as the current BOMs, the Mods would appreciate any help (and there might be a cupcake or two in it for your Team, if you do a set).

Note: We added start dates to the threads’ titles.

Requirement for 7% Completion
Nevertheless, we stipulate that members participating in that challenge need to give more than a two sentence statement. Something more than, “I loved it. But hated the cliffhanger at the end...” repeatedly, member after member.

One example we liked was a comment or two at the end of every chapter or two where people put these under “view spoiler” (view spoiler). This is fine with us, though that makes it difficult to access for members reading on their phones.

Therefore, there needs to be some kind of designated stopping points for discussion - by chapters with view spoilers, as mentioned, or defined sections - agreed upon or defined by someone willing to make the suggestion.

If you like, you may reserve a post that refers the Mods to your comments.

Example (For this example, they all go to the same post; hopefully, you get the idea.)

Steven - link to my comments 6/12 on The Hobbit

message 216: by Barb (last edited Jun 03, 2013 07:54PM) (new)

Barb I think so LOL So if one of our team members participates in the Dracula book discussion, for example, all she would have to do is answer some of the DQs -- some being the operative term here, I guess -- and include links to the messages where her comments are posted?

Sorry, my brain is a bit fuzzy tonight. I had to say goodbye to son and DIL this afternoon (they leave tomorrow for Japan), and this mama isn't happy about having her baby boy go so far away for so long. I know, I know, lots of mamas have had to deal with the same thing -- or worse -- but this is my first time!

message 217: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments That's okay. Well, for me anyway. LOL!

Here is an example Emily responding to a section in the WWZ "buddy read." As is Karen's above her. Does that help?

message 218: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 1359 comments I am stumped about the buddy reads/book of the month too.

Can we go into old buddy reads such as this oneDearly Beloved and read the book and answer the questions according to the book breakdown?

message 220: by Aneeqah (last edited Jun 03, 2013 08:10PM) (new)

Aneeqah | 322 comments So just to clarify once again: we can just go back through old buddy-reads and simply answer the questions as we read, no matter how old the buddy-read was? (Sorry for all the questions, but I want to make sure I understand this!).

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I'm so glad you guys brought up older BoM/Buddy Reads because I kept forgetting to look through those threads to see if there are any I want to read/participate in! I've already found a few but we'll see how I can figure them into my plans.

Barb wrote: "If you do a new one, YOU will have to come up with the section breakdowns AND the discussion questions!"

Sorry for the misunderstanding, Barb. They do NOT have to do both. Just one or the other: section breaks or DQs, if someone is posting them.

message 229: by Barb (new)

Barb Even if they're starting a BR that hasn't already been set up? Would they split up the tasks then? One person do the section breaks, another the discussion questions? I guess I don't have as good a handle on this as I thought, sorry!

message 230: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments They can decide among themselves. Each "buddy read" is going to be a bit different; have its own personality.

I did kind of like the one I linked you to above, as they did a synopsis break and then one person posted one question. It prompted more discussion. I didn't mean to confuse you.

message 231: by Barb (new)

Barb Oh it's easy to confuse me, especially tonight LOL I think I get it now, thank you for your patience :)

message 232: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat I have a question:

If a team member finishes a book in June which he/she started in May could it be counted towards the team goal for the June-July Challenge?

message 233: by Vi (new)
