Vi | 1758 comments LK - a question. The BR need not necessarily be done within our team or group, does it? I have 2 BR that I'll be doing in other groups. Will that count?

A7c. I'm sorry, no. They will NOT count. They must be posted somewhere in the NBRC regular group. This was a decision made by all Mods.

LOL. I read the challenge title and I never picked up the spelling error! I'm a stickler for correct spellings but what I find is that I self-correct.

Q8b. "Expanding on question 8:

Could I read a total of 21 books, where I read 14 books from Behind Enemy Lines and then 7 books are made up of reading 7 books in one other category?"

A8b. Yes. If this is all you did (21 books), your Team would receive one (1) book advantage, regardless of who won the challenge.

Q8c. "Also, can the participating members in a team read more (of) the same categories? For instance, if I had someone else willing to read 14 books from Behind Enemy Lines or 7 books for Buddy Reads, would those books count?

A8c. No. Not if you already did - or plan to do - 8b. That would have your Team doing Category #1 “Behind Enemy Lines” a total of four times. All categories can only be done twice, with the exception of #5 Spell-It-Out: “N.B.R.C.   T.O.W.E.R.   T.E.A.M.S.   R.E.A.D.I.N.G.   C.H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E.” - which may be done three times, for a total of 21 books.

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Cover color question: how much color is needed? Dominant color or is overall impression of color enough?

I would say the overall impression, ❀Tea❀. Like with To Catch an Heiress (Agents of the Crown, #1) by Julia Quinn that you asked about. Here, I would have said (if it was with another color) that the book had enough blue; however, the red is such a dominant color, that the overall impression is as Turtlecollector declared: it is red.

That's what I meant :D I asked because for RaT color needed to be dominant (it had to be at least 50% of cover) :D

Yes. However, if that bit of blue was on a white background, I would have allowed "blue" as the color, because that is the color that would have "popped." Right?

Dancing at Midnight (Splendid Trilogy, #2) by Julia Quinn

not really, I would go with white.
Than again, blue does catch you eye at first glance

You're the boss :D

joanne (cabeswaters) Do we need to 'sign members up' like last time? Say for example a member who has not said they will be participating reads an eligible book, will it count towards the challenge?
(Assuming we do enough from that category)

We don't need to sign up people and we can use book from someone who didn't want to play.

From rules:
In addition, if a Team Member says they are NOT going to participate due to time constraints or lack of interest, but a watchful Captain or Co-Captain notices that one of their books applies towards a challenge category, said Captain/Co-Captain may use the book.

As I figured, all we need is to report when (and how?) category is finished.

Correct. Yes, it does make sense. You got it. ☺

❀Oo❀, if you, all by yourself, read six different "buddy read" books, and then are joined by seven of your Teammates for one more "buddy read" book, you would have 7+7 = 14.

Zara's Retreat I have a spreadsheet question.

I'm setting up a spreadsheet for this challenge and I'm linking the different categories to a separate sheet containing the rules as set out above. My problem is that when I hyperlink "Behind Enemy Lines" I loose the apostrophes in the link. Is there a way I can keep the apostrophes around this title?

Sections must follow the "buddy read" criteria, i.e. 50-75-100 pages as a day's "breakdown." Of course, you're welcome to do fewer pages, but that means more DQs, probably."

So it looks like we have 3 members of LJB and 2 members of Moonstone and Lisa-Kay up for a Buddy Read of Discovery of Witches to start June 11.
I don't see any existing discussion thread for it. Could a friendly neighbourhood mod point me in the right direction or set one up? ;)

Sorry, ❀Oo❀, I'm just recovering from a migraine, but yes, Post #90 looks like an acceptable plan, as far as your NOT breaking any of the rules. You have it more than covered. If you, yourself, do Cat#1 ("Behind Enemy Lines") twice, then NO one else can do it.

The BRs in #91 are all fine.

One of the Mods can set up any missing "buddy reads" - if there are not pre-existing - before June 1st. I have checked yet, as I'm still reading the threads. Yes, they may be "open-ended" through June. By all means, invite members from other Teams.

#93 looks like a change in plan from #90, but I'd say, right now it looks good. (Sorry, migraine med on board.) Please note the following:

Sure, one Teammate can read 1/2 Colour Behind (let's say 4) and 1/2 Colour Ahead (let's say 3), as long as some one else finishes those categories (3 and 4, respectively).

However, if you are asking is one Teammate can read 1/2 and 1/2 and count it as one completed category, then no.

IMPORTANT

Since some people are confused over Category #5, “T.O.W.E.R.   T.E.A.M.S.   R.E.A.D.I.N.G.   C.H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E.” - Would it help if we changed it to “N.B.R.C   T.O.W.E.R.   T.E.A.M.S.   R.E.A.D.I.N.G.” to make an even 21?

Or does that mess up your attack plans?

message 92: by Karen ⊰✿, Fiction Aficionado (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 16593 comments Mod
Yes, I just had a look and there are no DQs. Personally I like the idea of a new thread as it is a bit cleaner, but if you think its a bit messy to have 2 threads for the one book in this group I understand and will use the archived.
So long answer to say... just let me know what you'd prefer :)

Q14. Ashley wrote: "Are all our books supposed to fall into those categories?"

A14. Yes. However, you may repeat a category and choose something else, thereby doing 14 books in one category.

The exception is Category #5; you are allowed to do it three times = 21 books.

So, you could do:
Cat#1 - 14 books

Cat#2 - 14 books

Cat#5 - 21 books

Total = 49 books.

I'm fine either way, but my questions is if we do it three times, we are still only using up each letter in the entire expression once.

In other words, we cannot do T.O.W.E.R. three times (+ 6 other letters)??

I'm fine either way. I do have a question about this challenge though. Does one person only have to read a book per letter or is it allowed to be divided between two people?

Another general question: The number of books that need to be read over the seven weeks - 49 - is that per person or as a team?

Zara wrote: "Does one person only have to read a book per letter or is it allowed to be divided between two people?"

I'm sorry, Zara, I'm not understanding this. Did you mean per word and not letter? If you meant word, then yes, more than one person can spell the word. It is one book, read by one person, per letter.

However, if two people read the exact same book, you may use the author's first name for one letter and the title of the book for another letter.

Zara wrote: "The number of books that need to be read over the seven weeks - 49 - is that per person or as a team?"

49 books per Team. Of course, one person could read all 49 books and no one else do any, if desired.
