I am just starting The Husband's Secret. The voice of the writing so far reminds me of The Rosie Project. Funny, light and easy to read. There is a mystery, so I'm not sure where it will go from here.

I loved this book. I did the audio version. Gerard Doyle was the narrator and he was wonderful.

Reading The Panther by Nelson DeMille. John Corey is a riot. I'm LOL on nearly every page."I've read 3 of the series and I know what you mean. I was by myself in a restaurant and received more than a few stares when I broke out laughing.

Audio is a realm I have not ventured into, as of yet. I think it would be a good fit for me when I am gardening. I always have a book on hand when I take a break, but audio would work, especially since we have huge gardens and the work is never done!

Its funny you said this. I just abandoned the audiobook because I found the narrators speech pattern to be very annoying. The story was interesting though and I will pick it up again in the written form.
Just finished The Watchman by Robert Crais
So many reviews have been written that I'll just give it 5 Stars. The more I read Crais, the bigger fan I become. He really knows how to write a thriller.
Starting The Three Evangelists, by Fred Vargas. This isn't a part of her Adamsberg series -- another series entirely.
I've finished Embers & Ice - Isabella Modra. I'm reading The Billion Dollar Bachelor - Jackie Ashenden.
I've finished The Billion Dollar Bachelor - Jackie Ashenden. Now I am about to read The Billion Dollar Bad Boy - Jackie Ashenden.
Just finished Alex by Pierre Lemaitre. Highly recommended! Starting the second book Irene right now :)

Hi everybody. I'm a Goodreads newbie, and this is my first comment here, but I'm looking forward to catching up with all your chat about crime/mystery fiction.I'm currently reading Thicker Than Water by Kerry Wilkinson, and thoroughly enjoying it.
His feisty DS Jessica Daniel is a page turner.
Welcome Rena:)I finished a book called "The Other Typist" and it was really good! Now Im reading a Jeffery Archer book.Who are fav authors?
This morning I finished and reviewed The Billion Dollar Bad Boy - Jackie Ashenden. I am now going to read The Billionaire Biker - Jackie Ashenden.
Just finished The Last Town by Blake Crouch. Great thriller. Each book in the series is incredibly fast-paced. Very entertaining.
Just finished The Metamorphosis. I did like the message the book was meant to give but it was a disturbing read
I finished Holy Orders by Benjamin Black, the 6th book in the Dr. Quirke/Inspector Hackett series. Journalist Jimmy Minor is found beaten to death and the pathologist, Dr. Quirke, realizes the dead man is a friend of his daughter Phoebe. As usual Quirke and police Inspector Hackett team up to investigate the crime. Before his death Jimmy was pursuing a story involving a Catholic priest and this leads the hard-drinking Quirke to brood about his childhood in Catholic orphan homes, where he was mistreated. At the same time Quirke starts to experience hallucinations. Meanwhile Phoebe, upset about Jimmy's murder, befriends his grieving sister Sally. This results in an awkward friendship that preys on Phoebe's mind. Quirke and Hackett solve Jimmy's murder fairly easily - a solution that contains few surprises. This book is more of a character study than a detective story but it provides interesting insight into the personalities of Quirke and Phoebe. Recommended to fans of the series.

Have you read the books that come before? I love this series. It's all about the people and more especially, the place & time rather than the crime.

I finished Broken Harbour by Tana French. Patrick and Jenny Spain and their two children - living in an unfinished, decaying housing development in Brianstown (formerly Broken Harbor) Ireland - are attacked. Patrick and the children are dead and Jenny is barely live. "Scorcher" Kennedy and his rookie partner Richie Curran are assigned the case. As usual with Tana French's books a detective - in this case Scorcher - has an unfortunate history with the murder locale. Scorcher's family spent summer vacations at Broken Harbor and it was there that his mother committed suicide. When Scorcher and Richie begin to investigate the Spain calamity Patrick emerges as an early suspect. The recession has led to the loss of his job and the formerly happy family has been experiencing severe money problems. Maybe Patrick wanted to end all the suffering? However, further investigation reveals that the Spains seem to have attracted a couple of stalkers: one human and one elusive animal that ostensibly crawls through their house at will. Scorcher and Richie don't agree about who the prime suspect should be which leads to some friction between them. However the two detectives work well together and their joint questioning of the Spains' relatives and neighbors, plus poorly erased files on the family computer, provide important clues to the crimes. I don't want to give away spoilers so I'll just say that this well-written story has compelling characters and interesting twists, all of which lead to a satisfying, believable conclusion. A great addition to Tana French's mystery series.

I read them all in order, and got so much out of doing it that way that I otherwise would have missed.

Finished The Three Evangelists, by Fred Vargas. Quirky characters really make this one. Now starting the 2nd of that series, Dog Will Have His Day.
Finished up a few books over the weekend.
Fire And Ice is the first in the Liam Campbell series by Dana Stabenow. Really enjoyed it even if the ultimate solution seemed a tiny bit rushed at the end. I also now know a lot about herring fishing!
The Inspector and Mrs. Jeffries was a light entertaining cozy set in Victorian London.
Once Upon A Lie interesting police procedural set in Sydney.
Enjoyed them all and I'll look for more in all the series.

Finished The Speed Queen by Stewart O'Nan, starting Donald Westlake's THE HOOK, a nice twister set in the writing world. Both great.
Scott wrote: " starting Donald Westlake's THE HOOK, a nice twister set in the writing world. Both great."I keep forgetting the Westlake books for some reason. I like a lot of his books, especially the Dortmunder series and
is one of my all-time favorites.
I finished The Second Chair by John Lescroart. High school student Laura Wright and her drama teacher Mr. Mooney are rehearsing for the school play in his apartment when both are shot dead. The prime suspect is Laura's boyfriend, 17-year-old Andy. Defense attorney Amy Wu, an associate in Dismas Hardy's firm, gets the case. Without Andy's agreement Amy makes a deal for the boy to "admit" to the crimes so that he'll be incarcerated in the juvenile system for 8 years rather than being tried as an adult and risking life without parole. Andy refuses to "admit" leading to big trouble for Amy. Thus Hardy says he'll be second chair during Andy's subsequent hearings and launches his own investigation into the case. Meanwhile, Hardy's cop friend Abe Glitsky is dealing with a bizarre string of serial murders. The early part of the book - dealing with Andy's admitting or not admitting - was too slow. Past that part, though, the action picked up, the story got more intricate, and the intermingling of Hardy's and Glitsky's cases was deftly handled. Good book.
Finished Dog Will Have His Day, by Fred Vargas (from France) this morning -- sadly at 4:30 a.m. when I should have been asleep.
I have read and reviewed Where the Bodies Are Buried - Christopher Brookmyre. Now I am reading A Million Dirty Secrets - C.L. Parker and then I will read A Million Guilty Pleasures - C.L. Parker.

Just finished The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. I'd never read anything by her, but, this impressed me.The book was an enjoyable read, but, I'm going to have to digest it for awhile before I give final evaluation of it. I recently lost my best friend and this book struck a chord. I've caught myself talking to him and then, realizing that he is gone and I can't really talk to him. But, this book has me reexamining that line of thought. If I could recommend this book to only 1 person, I'd recommend it to him. His wife once told me that he devoured books. And, I know it was true. I just wonder if it's still true.
