Nancy wrote: "I'll be starting Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King tonight."Enjoy, I haven't read a Stephen King story in ages, I kind of lost interest or got sidetracked into other authors' orbits. I used to read him all the time. Strange.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... this is my review for The Lovely Bones
which I just finished. I gave it 2 *s.
Just finished The Coffin Dancer by Jeffery Deaver, which wasn't bad, will be reading the next one at some point.Halfway through Death Is Now My Neighbor by Colin Dexter. Little bit sad to be coming to the end of the Inspector Morse books.
Once I finish that its onto Portrait in Death by J.D. Robb, so I can get my fix of Roarke and finish a year and a half long challenge in another group.
I've just started
. I'm eager to find out what happened to Pendergast after the ending of the last book.
Just finished The Goldfinch. I gave five stars to a book I was surprised into really, really enjoying .

I gave up on him for a while, too. After I finished the Dark Tower series, I couldn't imagine him topping that with anything. And so far, he hasn't. Mr. Mercedes is okay -- not great.

, I love Michael Connelly"That's the next one I need to read in the series. I plan to do so soon so I can keep progressing. I love the Bosch books!
I just finished a very intelligent book, well written, good plot; even though there are parts that drag.
. Like the creation of characters who do not have names, why and the type of people they are. 4out of 5 stars.

With as much hype as it's been getting (every other tweet I get is some kind of ad for that book), hearing that it's a 4/5 is pretty good. I'm still deciding if I want to read it or no.

OMG -- that book is one of my all time favorites of his! My other one is Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal, and I haven't yet started The Serpent of Venice: A Novel. I think you'll really like this one.

I finished Lexicon by Max Barry. Emily, a 16-year-old con artist, is working her card tricks in San Francisco when she meets 'T.S. Elliot'. The 'poet' carts her off to a special school in Virginia where she'll learn to use words to control people. Graduates of the school take the names of well-known poets before they're sent to fulfill the school's agenda - which seems to be to control the world. Unfortunately Emily breaks some school rules and is banished to Broken Hill, Australia. There she falls in love and comes across one of the most dangerous words in the world, a 'bareword.' Using the bareword Emily causes the death of every single person in Broken Hill except for herself and a blue collar worker named Wil Parke. Wil soon becomes the target of an evil cadre of poets who are determined to dig through his brain to discover how he lived through the carnage. Most of the book's characters are interesting but hard to root for because they're too selfish and ruthless to be likable people. Wil is an exception as he appears to be a helpless victim of circumstance caught in a situation he doesn't comprehend. The book kept my interest and I was intrigued with the explanations/demonstrations of how people are controlled with words. All in all I liked this sci-fi thriller.
Currently reading Remember When
, which is part of the "In Death" series. Love Eve & Roarke, although they aren't in the first part of this book. I'm not in a rush to read this series since there are a gazillion of them but I still really enjoy them!I'm also listening to Save Yourself
, which is a new author for me. It's still very early in the book but so far, so good. Happy reading! :)
I am reading P.D. James' Death Comes to Pemberley. I am over halfway through--and not much investigating going on yet.Death Comes to Pemberley
I finished A Murderous Procession, the last book in the Mistress of the art of Death series, this morning. Excellent, the best book in the series yet. I highly recommend the series if you like historical mysteries. Each book is better than the last and you'll love the characters. (4 stars)
I just finished
. This is another new author for me. This book was pretty good. I also finished my first Harlan Coben book
. It was a very good book and I'm going to read the next one in the series.
Just finished Wayward, book 2 in the Wayward Pine series. Now I've started book 3, The Last Town. Been pretty good so far. I'm excited to see where the final book goes.I also started The Wolf: A Novel by Lorenzo Carcaterra. Love the premise: Mobsters vs. Terrorists. Only a few pages in, but liking it so far.
I've just finished Morality Play, a historical mystery set in the 14th Century, by Barry Unsworth and enjoyed it very much. I'm about to start What's Bred in the Bone by Robertson Davies
I am new to this group and I just finished reading "DealBreaker." It was my first time reading Harlan Coben's Myron Bolitar series. Good book and I am glad I picked it up. Now on to reading "Missing you."

Adding to my international reads, I've just finished Morituri, by Yasmina Khadra. It's set in Algeria, by an Algerian author.
I finished Doctor Sleep by Stephen King, the sequel to The Shining. As the story opens Dan Torrance (psychically gifted Danny Torrance from "The Shining") has grown up to be a violent alcoholic. After Dan has a disturbing one night stand he hops a train and ends up in New Hampshire. There he gets a job in a hospice and joins AA. Meanwhile Abra, a little girl with massive psychic abilities, develops a mental connection with Dan. In time Abra's psychic gifts bring her to the attention of horrific vampire-like beings called the True Knot who torture and murder psychic children to absorb their "steam" (psychic essence). The True Knot wants to get their hands on Abra who - coming to realize the danger she's in - asks Dan to help her. This leads to the thriller part of the story, with the True Knot scheming to kidnap Abra, and Dan and his cohorts scheming to save her. The book has great characters and gruesome events - in true Stephen King style. Highly recommended, especially to King fans and aficionados of horror stories.
Just finishing up a re-read of
and will go on to read the new novella in the same series
. I've liked this series a lot and am looking forward to the novella and the next novel in the series as well. Good characterizations and very well done action scenes.

I just finished The Keeper of Lost Causes recently as well. I loved it. It was interesting and different and I liked that there was a bit of humour as well. I will be reading more of this series.
