ARCHIVE TWO: PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF ~
Hello Victoria and Diane. My fellow moderators have given you some good links. Take a look around and enjoy.
Welcome, Tim. We are reading a WWII book right now:http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...
Take a look at our WWII topic, too:

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Greetings, my name is John. I'm a 48yo Logistics Tech. Origionally from Kansas but since retiring from the Army I've lived in Tacoma, Wa. I like learning history. What really got me into history is the three years I was in Germany and seeing all the Castles(I miss Bavaria). I like to read nonfiction history(mostly military). My favorite is Civil War and WWII.
Doing my family geneology has expanded my interest in history also.
Glad you joined us, John. This is the place for the avid history buff.

Hi, I'm Alicja originally from Poland but have lived about 2/3s of my life in Florida, US. I have always loved history, especially ancient world (ancient Greece, Persia, Rome, etc. and anything Alexander the Great) and WWII (with a special fondness for the British). I completely adore anything written by Mary Renault (who has written ancient world fiction, WWII fiction, and historical non-fiction). I am no expert and read historical fiction and non-fiction just for fun. I also love a little sci-fi in my history through time travel (you can blame it on Doctor Who, and more specifically on 'The Empty Child' episode; I couldn't get over Jack and Rose dancing on top of a Chula ship in front of Big Ben during the London Blitz with barrage balloons in the air). Since then I've been partial to time travel history fiction, Connie Willis being my favorite author there. I am also interested in the history of the LGBT movement as well as that of historical LGBT figures.
A warm welcome to:Steve. You will find many American History buffs here; and
John. Vicki gave you some good links to whet your appetite.
Please browse the threads and join in the book discussions/recommendations. We look forward to your participation.
Hi Everyone,My name is Ricki and I joined the group months ago, but between relocating for work, getting laid off, and trying to reestablish a my schedule I haven't been able to read much.
I joined the group because I have an interest in historical events have shaped our current societies. Much of this interest arises from my life long interest in communities and politics/policies. I hope to spend the rest of the year reading books that focus on major events, particularly conflicts, in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Hello everyone. My name is Anthony. I'm 23 years old and I love history a lot. I work for a publishing company. I love history because its very mysterious to me and well ancient. I love to learn about things of the past because its very interesting to know about it. I know I'm very young and that I have much to learn. So why not start here in this group . The History book club. My place to be.
Welcome, Anthony. Welcome, Ricki. You came to the right place for learning history. Let us know if you have any questions.
Welcome Arghya, so glad you decided to join this group. Your experience learning history in school sounds identical to mine, and anything historical bored me to tears. The turning point for me was more of a gradual change in interests, and now I prefer to read about history and have developed areas of interest I would not have anticipated. There is a lot here to explore. I suspect your to-read list will grow by leaps and bounds!
Welcome Sully, Alicja, Ricki, and Anthony. Hope you enjoy the discussions and participate in the recommendations.
Welcome Sully, Alicja, Ricki, Belle, Anthony and Arghya. Be prepared to have your to-be-read list of books grow enormously as you read what others have to say about their experiences.
A very warm welcome to:Alicja: I see you are already posting on some of the threads. Keep up the good work.
Anthony: We all are still learning about history and you will find even more here to pique your interest.
Arghya: I'm glad you decided that history was really interesting. I think we may have all gone through that period when we thought history was dry.
Sully: You will find lots of good books here to add to your TBR list, which will quickly get out of hand....I speak from experience!!!
I am from Bolivar, Missouri. I enjoy reading many types of books but I especially enjpy American history. I joined this group to see what others are reading and to learn a little more history.

Hi, I'm Alexandra. I'm not a historian, just someone who is very interested and reads history sporadically. Primarily I find myself reading about non-western cultures and ancient civilizations. I'm very interested in comparing the history of different parts of the world at different times.

Hello ! My name is Ezhil and I am originally from India, but living in Michigan, USA right now. I've recently developed an interest in history, especially political and economic history of the past century, and thought it would be good idea to get started by joining this group. I have begun reading the book Drift : The Unmooring of American Military Power and hopefully get to read more about the Vietnam war (for which I am searching for good recommendations).
