Hi everyone,

My name is Cole, I'm from the United States and in the Marine Corps serving overseas for the past few years guarding our Embassies in various countries. Finding this has been great because I'm normally out of the loop, not to mention not many 22 year old Marines are avid readers. I'm mostly interested in military history and even more so in Ancient Greek and Roman history. The beauty of reading history to me is always learning of something new, some new era or conflict I'd never heard of so it becomes something for me to discover and it's always fascinating. I look forward to all of the suggestions from this group and connecting with people from all walks of life to share our common interests and learn something new everyday.

Anne Cupero (annecupero) | 1 comments Hi,

My name is Anne and I am a high school teacher and college instructor, but in Forensic Science and Biology. I do however have a history degree as well and I love most areas of history. I love particularly Ancient History, regional histories of places, World Wars I and II, and Nazi Germany. But truly, I can pick up any history book and get interested.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

Matt (mattvan) | 1 comments I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Matt and i love history. I think it started back when I was a kid and my dad would argue with my grandpa about things that had happened in history and how the issue should be handled at that time. I always admired the people who fought for our freedom in WW2. The more i have read about them the more respect I have for them and the resolve they had. I look forward to reading some good books and learning more about the inspiring lives of those that lived before us. Thanks for letting me into the group.

Pam (pamkf3) | 1 comments Hello. Happy to join the group and looking forward to sharing my love of history with other like minded people. Much of my reading is focused on American History and especially the Civil War. I also enjoy reading about early American history in the Southern States, including Virginia. My family came to this country in the 1700s, my Dad's side from Germany settling in the South Carolina back country and then moving west to Alabama. My Mom's side from England and settled in Virginia (Northern Neck and Middleburg area) with some moving west to settle Kentucky. I am very interested in books that touch on these geographic areas. I also enjoy biography, military history, the history of Western Europe and Ancient History. I look forward to connecting.

Alisa (mstaz) Welcome Howard, we are glad to have you as a member. Given your interests, you might check out our British History folder: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_... and our American History folder: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_.... There are numerous topics within each folder so please join in the discussions. There are many topical threads as well so explore and enjoy!

Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post. This is how books you mention should look:

The Last Lion 1 Visions of Glory 1874-1932 by William Raymond Manchester & The Last Lion 2 Winston Spencer Churchill Alone, 1932-40 by William Raymond Manchester & The Last Lion 3 Winston Spencer Churchill Defender of the Realm, 1940-65 by William Raymond Manchester all by William Raymond Manchester William Raymond Manchester

An Army at Dawn The War in North Africa, 1942-1943 by Rick Atkinson & The Day of Battle by Rick Atkinson & The Guns at Last Night Liberation Trilogy Volume 3 by Rick Atkinson all by Rick Atkinson Rick Atkinson

Washington A Life by Ron Chernow by Ron Chernow Ron Chernow

In this case even though you did not mention the series books by title, I would cite them like this using our format. We ask this of all our members, in large part so other members can easily navigate to what you mention to check out the description, reviews, etc. It is easy once you get the hang of it, and I think you will reap the benefits of it as you browse the threads and participate in the discussions.

In addition, we will be starting the Atkinson trilogy as a group read later this year. You will see more information about this in the future, but it would be a great opportunity for you to participate in a discussion.
