I thought I had introduced myself a good while back when I originally joined the group, but just to make sure (and introduce myself to anyone who has joined since) here's a brief intro about myself. My name is Steven Harbin. I'm an educator in an alternative school in the southeastern United States. I was a high school history teacher back in the 1980's. I've always loved history, ever since I started reading Landmark books about ancient history back in elementary school in the 1960's. I'm interested in just about all eras and areas of history, but presently I've been reading a good deal the 17th and 18th century World and American history. I've loved this group ever since I joined, and enjoy the group reads.

Hi! I am Rosa Sala Rose, born in Barcelona (Spain) from a German mother and a Spanish father. I am a free-lance writer of historical essays, so I am naturally interested on history, mainly German history of the 19th and 20th centuries. I am especially keen on whatever relates Nazism with the history of mentalities and culture. I try to read as much as I can about these topics. I also love autobiographies, diaries and memories by people who have been living in Germany during the first half of the 20th century, since autobiographical writings are often an amazing source of unconventional historical knowledge.

Hi everyone, my name is Stacie. I am 20 years old and from the United States. I am currently majoring in Health Care Administration at a local university. I also love to read, especially those books involving history. I read history books of any kind, but the ones that I am most interested occur during the 20th century. The last couple of history books I've read were about WWII and John F. Kennedy. The things that I love most about history is learning about what it was like during that period of time and what people had to experience.

Hello all. I joined this group some time ago and am responding to your understandable request for members to introduce themselves.

My name is Paul from London, England. I'm a designer by trade, and originally from Birmingham (England again, not Alabama!). My father seriously considered teaching history in his youth, which perhaps explains why as long as I can remember I've not been able to pass so much as a doorway without stopping to ponder its past.

My historical reading has ranged widely over the years, from a childhood obsession with the Victorians, (Heaven's Command: An Imperial Progress by Jan Morris for instance), to 20th century conflicts (The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich 1 by William L. Shirer), to more recently an exploration of the Classical age (for instance Persian Fire: The First World Empire and the Battle for the West by Tom Holland).

In short, I'm endlessly curious, and will pick up almost any history book. My only problem is finding the time.

Hi! Kim Turney here. I joined this group because I have become a History Fanatic. I am a Sword Master in the film industry - basically I teach and perform fake fights for a living. Part of being a sword master is understanding historical time periods and the weapons that go with them. I am also really interested in WWI and WWII, mostly for studying and trying to comprehend why people made the decisions they made that lead the world to war in the first place. I find it fascinating. My name is Fred, I'm 20 years old. I've set a goal for myself recently, which is why I joined goodreads. I plan to read 20 books over the next 1-2 years from a variety of places. I've started my collection with 2 books on the fall of old mexico, one on the balkans since 1453, and one which is an overview of German history.

Hello, I am Skaidrite Rita Sparks, a retired university professor, hospital administrator, and librarian, who lived WWII as a child in Latvia and later as a refugee in displaced persons' camps in Austria. I am primarily interested in history as presented in memoirs. I firmly believe that personal accounts of history give us a multi-faceted colorful knowledge of events not found in official history books which do not allow insight into how wars affected people who actually lived them. This holds true whether we read about the American Civil War, the Tsar's downfall in Russia as experienced by my mother, the refugee and Holocaust children in the European Sector during WWII, or the tortuous journey of the Lost Boys of Sudan. America truly is a melting pot and we need to know the true ingredients that make up the recipe for a great nation.

Yes, Jill, he is nearly 90 with failing health however his mind is sharp as a tack and he loves to tell his WW2 stories. Broken biscuits and a lack of butter regularly feature in his moans but his brave stories of fighting in the woods are thrilling to hear and make it all worthwhile.

My name is Louis and I enjoy all aspects of history, over the past year I have been studying different languages and have found a good way to understand these languages is looking at the history of them. Nonetheless I enjoy all aspects of revolutionary history and why uprisings come about. I'm afraid I'd best "unjoin." I am so busy writing that I don't have time to participate.

For the sake of adding something to the discussion, I've found that fiction set within the context of historical events is often the most illuminating. Life (childbirth, old people trying to cope with painful joints, getting food) takes on Herculean tasks in times of war.

Good morning or afternoon or evening depending on your location. My name is Leif I am an author, a Chief Petty Officer USNR and a military historian with a degree in anthropology. In my chequered past I have been a marketing director for one of the largest living history museums in the country as well as a film maker.
In 2010 and part of 11 I was the public affairs officer for a battalion of Seabees in Afghanistan and I am currently the Senior enlisted leader of a group of Navy journalists.
I have taken my love of history to heart and have a fairly good collection of 18th century firearms, all repro, that I use hunting and for demonstration, including a one and half pound cannon on a naval truck which sits next to my bed. That is what my wife would kindly refer to as eccentric.
I am working on three new works of historic fiction and of course as an author I spend a good deal of time with my head buried in non-fiction work or primary source doing research.
When I'm not writing or doing military work I look forward to fishing and hunting with my children and prowling around the Adirondack Mountains.
