I didn't even realize I was reading 2 books with Iron in the title until I was writting up my review for Iron Elves...

Tiffany | 22 comments I absolutely loved Gil's! It is definately a one of a kind book. There were many times when I got the WTF? face when reading it. Zombie cows or vampire turkeys anyone? I will definately be checking out some of his other books. :)

That's a great series Jinnifer! Have you read the short story in On the Prowl? It introduces the main characters. I think I would've been lost without reading that first.

message 310: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jnhart) Just finished Wicked Lovely.

Now reading Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs, Dexter in the Dark by Jeffry Lindsay, and Prey by Rachel Vincent.

I have been trying to find Ironside forever! My library doesn't carry it and I can never find it on PBS. Someday, though, it will be mine...

I haven't read on the prowl...is it different short stories by different authors? I read Mercy Thompson books so I know who Charles & Bran & Samuel are but do you think it would be better to go ahead and read on the prowl first?

message 313: by Shanon (new)

Shanon (boban) | 1166 comments Mod
Most definately Jinnifer. You get background information on Anna (the main female character in Cry Wolf & Hunting Ground). It actually contains the story of how she and Charles meet.

You only need to read the story written by Patricia Briggs though - not the whole book. If I remember correctly, I read it in a day so it's not that long.

message 314: by [deleted user] (new)

Great, thanks Shanon!

Kristen wrote: "Currently reading Iron Kissed and will start on Cry Wolf when I finish that one. "

I am about to start Cry Wolf but a friend told me it would be best if you read the short story in On the Prowl so that you can get the back ground on the characters in the book. Some of the characters come from the Mercy series but I think some are new. I haven't got the On the Prowl book from the library yet so I haven't started the book yet.

I am not a fan of short stories and so I am not going to buy On the Prowl but I think I may make an exception on this story if it will be helpful to the rest of the series.

If you haven't read Black Dagger Brotherhood Josée - I'd recommend it! I haven't read the other series you listed but I've heard good things. BUT Black Dagger is a winner IMO

I didn't think I'd like that every book was about someone else either - but it makes the series fresh. The first book is about Wrath and he continues to be in all the other books so you won't miss him or anyone else.

Susan (Suz) (sharney) I have to agree with Shanon Josee go with BDB series! you may or may not love the first book, but keep with it as they get better of all of them so far first book is my least fav, but the entire series is AWESOME! Of course I have't read the other series you mentioned so I'd be partial to BDB anyway ;) Let us know what you think of them....

I've got the first 3 in BDB series coming from PBS. Hope they're as good as you guys say they are.

message 324: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) Oh you will not be disappointed Melodie, make sure to read at least all 3 of them before you REALLY decide what you think, but I was hooked after the first one which is actually my least favorite....

message 325: by new_user (new)

new_user Yeah, I read the next ones, even though the first wasn't that great, and I'm glad I did. :)

message 326: by [deleted user] (new)

What are the BDB books like? I are they kind of romance-ish, I am fine with that, or chick-litty?

message 327: by Shanon (new)

Shanon (boban) | 1166 comments Mod
BDB books are considered Paranormal Romance. The main plot is about the development of a relationship though there are other aspects to the books as well. They also contain some pretty good sex scenes imo.

message 328: by [deleted user] (new)

That's what i got from the covers, the sex scence I mean. I don't know if I will check 'em out yet.

message 329: by Shanon (new)

Shanon (boban) | 1166 comments Mod
There you go again judging a book by it's cover ;)

Though you are absolutely correct in your judgement of BDB & sex scenes.

message 330: by new_user (last edited Oct 20, 2009 10:37PM) (new)

new_user The overall plot is moving towards multiple, organic storylines and more ambiguity, like urban fantasy, so it's moving away from romance cliches, etc. So even if you're not a romance reader, I really recommend it, especially if you like the demon butt-kicking and a crew of hot guys romancing women, LOL. Her vampire society's also pretty well developed. They're pretty much their own species and civilization and the series centers around them.

That's true too. I haven't read the latest book yet but I did notice there was a lot more going on in Phury's book than just the romance aspect, though it was still there. That's probably why this series is a favorite of so many people - a little PNR & UF all mixed together.

message 332: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, it's not like sex stories right, but I can probably say it is not a book that I will be reading at school, hehe. Right now, after I finish Prodigal Son, I want read Different Seasons by Stephen King and some more of his works,(Hoping my godmother has it and others.), plus Under the Dome when it comes out Nov. 10! (Gotta get to a B&N to preorder.)

Pre-order UNDER THE DOME from Amazon. Their price is $9.00!

message 334: by [deleted user] (new)

I have a B&N membership so it is like an extra 5% off of the usual 30% I think for adult hardcovers.

No way it'll beat the Amazon price. At $9.00, it's like 74% off the list price! They're having a big price war with Walmart, and they've got a bunch of upcoming new releases for the $9.00 price.

message 336: by Jeremiah (new)

Jeremiah Cain (jeremiah_cain) | 31 comments I just bought A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin because I'd asked an Amazon group for Dark Fantasy recommendations, and they suggested this. This group, however, seems better geared to what I like, so I'd like to know what you think. Has anyone read it? Is it worth reading?

The only George R.R. Martin book I've read is Fevre Dream by George R.R. Martin which I thought was excellent!

I haven't read any Gearge RR Martin yet but have some of his books on my list to try. I'm curious to see what you thing of A Game of Thrones! I've also heard Fevre Dream is a wonderful book.

message 339: by [deleted user] (new)

I love George R. R. Martin. His Song of Ice and Fire books are my favorite. They are dark, gritty medievalish fantasy. He is the master of morally ambiguish characters. SO yeah, Definitely worth reading :)

message 340: by new_user (new)

new_user Did I hear morally ambiguous? Must...read... Martin...

message 341: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh yes indeed. And that might be an understatement. lol

message 342: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathry) I've had Fevre Dream for awhile and keep meanng to pick it up as I've heard only good things. I figure it will be a good test to see if I like Martin' writing before I jump into his long and unfinished? high fantasy series.

I've started The Turning and recently picked up copies of Gil's All Fright Diner and The Forest of Hands and Teeth so I'll be good to go for the group.

I'm in the middle of The Name of the Wind which I knew was long when I started but didn't really realize HOW long! I'll be reading that one for a while I think. I'm also reading the latest Georgia Kincaid book - Succubus Heat. So far I'm really enjoying both books.

Anyone read Name of The Wind?? I've heard the ending isn't really an ending so I'm curious how bad of a non-ending it really is.

message 345: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) I finished Lover Avenged (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #7) by J.R. Ward , LOVED IT! And am almost finished with Grave Sight (Harper Connelly Mystery, #1) by Charlaine Harris , which I was reading at the same time as Lover Avenged... both were excellent! Next will be Bound to Shadows (Riley Jenson Guardian, #8) by Keri Arthur which releases tomorrow! YAY
