I really need to catch up with this. My internet at home was out at one point - I think that was just after chapter 2 was posted, and I haven't caught up since. I'll sit down one night with a mug of hot chocolate (nevermind that it's 95 degrees here) and read all the chapters I've missed. Something to look forward to. :-)

Don't make the mistake of doing that TOO late at night... ;-)

I'm one of those weird people who likes being spooked. I like scary stuff. Although, yeah, it does keep me up at night sometimes. :-D I'll read it on the weekend so I can sleep in after biting my nails all night.
I was talking to the SO last night about how difficult this story is in a way. And yet it's really very simple, at least as far as plot. The challenge is it's a romance at heart, so I have to keep remembering not to veer into horror. I want it spooky but I don't want to lose focus and this is the midpoint of the story (I think!) which means it could go a dozen different ways.

It's getting spookier and spookier.. And that ending, wow!
Tomorrow I am going to Edinburgh, which is a perfect city for ghosts. I recall reading somewhere that Scotland is the country in the world with most ghosts. I wonder how they managed to count them, though. And Edinburgh has haunted graveyards and abandonded churches, dark closes and rainy cobblestone streets and a city underneath the city. There be ghosts a-plenty, I am sure :)
On the not so spooky side, I will spend several days together with my son and daughter, I really look forward to being with them.

Enjoy the visit with your son and daughter, and (spooky) Edinburgh :-)

Thank you, dear KC

(And I agree with you - how did they know how many ghosts there were, so that they could say that there were more in one place than in another?)

To be very personal for a second (maybe too much so), there was a dark time I thought my family was broken beyond repair, and I have to take responsibility for at least some of it, so it makes me very happy that it isn't so, and I believe we will have fun together :)

Believe strongly enough, and you will have fun together. Enjoy your visit, Anne, and please report back to us.
Enjoy your vacation, the graduation and the quality time with your great children, Anne! And don't forget to visit The Jolly Judge! ;)

That's wonderful, Anne. The power of second chances.

Josh, thanks for posting so regularly.
It's really easing the pain of waiting for more :D"
Thank you for the heads-up, Juthi!

I'm glad you guys are enjoying it -- having to get these out on a steady basis is keeping me focused on target, I think.

Sounds like you work best with a structure of some sort.
Or is it just getting back in the habit after your year sabbatical?

I think it's taking me longer to get back in the groove after sabbatical. Partly because I had not been very realistic about how much time, moving forward, would have to be spent on non-writing business. So there was a lot of panicked flailing around before I accepted that I was working at a good pace -- there's just a lot more to do now.

California Dreamin'... :-) Josh's new blog post is here.
The delayed flight sounded terribly familiar... ;-) For some reason my own nightmares usually involve desperate packing in awful hurry and losing my luggage in the end. Josh's dream had a beautiful, bright and funny moments, too. So that's a relief. :-)

Funny dream and beautifully described (of course, it is Josh's dream) :)
When I have too much to do and too little time to do it, I dream about airports too, about running in mile long corridors, up and down stairs and finding closed doors and long queues everywhere and never catching the plane. But I never dream about lovely museum displays and nice views in the airport. Where can I send a complaint about that?
The part with the telephone seems like a typical too much to do kind of dream though.
ETA: At times when I have been stressed for a long time but have managed to get control of the situation, I still have the airport dream about running around not finding the right door or runway, but then it ends with me actually catching the plane on time.

Yeah, funny that my nightmares are almost the same. I'll either miss my plane/train in spite of the fact that I desperately try to catch it or I'm driving around with a car and never finding the place I'm looking for.

Interesting! :-)
ETA: This actually reminds me of the fact that sometimes when hubby is having an awesome dream, he's able to think something like "Hey! This dream is really cool!" or "I've been in this dream place before, this dream is one of my favorites." or "I know what happens next!" I envy him for that, because when I dream, I never understand that it's only a dream at the time. When younger I did some sleepwalking, too. Nowadays I only babble in my sleep for hubby's great amusement. :-)

I do the same :)
I also used to walk and talk in my sleep when I was younger. Busy nights!
Some dream elements in common:
- places that combine or resemble other places (the apartment in Paris looks like mom's kitchen or vice versa; mom's teakettle is in the Paris kitchen)
- important objects or devices that disassemble and the component parts are junk or bear no relationship to the object
- friends or acquaintances in unlikely places &/or roles who don't understand what you need from them or want to help but can't
- becoming distracted by all these sights and details and forgetting the original purpose or premise of your dream actions
- waking up, thinking WTF? ; )
Not so common, Josh's dream has one of the loveliest endings ever.

His Will is purrrfect. His Taylor is a little too perky and naïve-sounding for my taste, but narration is an art, and I feel like I can only intrude so much on Adrian's vision. He hears a more youthful, diffident Taylor. It makes for an interesting reading. It could be that a lot of readers hear Taylor the same way.

Is the sample still around somewhere? I'd like to re-listen... it's been a while since the competition. :-)

And by hearing I meant reading (that Josh's line). Sorry about that. I swear I hear you guys talking to me from time to time. :-) And no, I don't know if the sample is still around somewhere. But I'm sure Josh knows... he knows EVERYTHING... ;-)

I don't think the page still exists. I'll see if I can find the link and test it, but I think the weblord pulled it down.

Some of my friends had been adding another of Josh's books to their lists and since I am totally behind on everything and unfortunately also on Josh's books I followed links to find out what this book was about now, because I got totally confused by "The Haunted Heart - Winter" and "Winter Kill" :D and ended up on Josh's page. And while I was wondering and worrying how I would ever manage to get back on track with which books I own and which not yet etc. I suddenly saw the link to "Josh Lanyon Bibliographical Spreadsheet"! This is soooooo neat! I think it could use an update ;), but still, thanks a lot for this! It's a big help for lost causes like me!!!

Thank you for the link. I had just thought I should look for it, because I didn't know if I had stored it in my computer.
It is amazing and it is the work of Liade. Thank you, Lia!

You are forgiven, Uli! Mayhe the word "Winter" is Josh's new pet title! Remember the period when many of his books had the word Dark in the title? :-P

Yes! I almost forgot about that myself. I suppose it is very out of date by now. I'll have to take a look.

Yes. I recall that. I recall that I was headed for burn out and that was probably the first clue! :-D

Yes indeed. That was Lia's idea and many a reader has blessed her for it.

Though as, sadly, I am travelling back home tomorrow there's hope I may find time to look into this very soon.
