To tell you the truth I'm a little surprised myself... ;-)
Anyway, Josh really made my day with his blog post. I love so many of his books so much, but I've always found Holmes & Moriarity books absolutely brilliant. In fact, I can't understand why they aren't as celebrated as Adrien English series. Josh's writing skills and his beatable ability to combine hardship and laughter (tragedy and comedy?) shine so bright in Kit and J.X.'s story!

When I read the excerpt it did make me laugh, but in an anxious kind of way. Kit makes me more than a little crazy at times, maybe because his emotional fragility seems even more daunting than Adrien's physical fragility. It's hard to imagine J.X. not running out of patience. Actually, they both seem rather clueless here. Well, we're counting on Josh to pull it all together, as you say combining "hardship and laughter." : )

I will confess, I badly want the follow-ups to *cough* the money-losing *end cough* historicals (especially This Rough Magic), but I'm thrilled to bits that Fair Play and the next Kit/J.X. book are waiting in the wings!

As we age, we finally figure out time is not finite. It's not sad as much as it's jolting. Fascinating, but not surprising that you're able you're able to find treasures in your cast asides. Happy discoveries.

Just continuing the thought here... Maybe it's simply because the Holmes & Moriarity series is not completed yet?

That was my thought, too. And we haven't had enough time and enough books to get to know them so much yet. But that surely will come! (no pressure, Josh! ) :)

Thank you guys! I'm glad to see the enthusiasm for Kit and JX remains, despite the delays.
You know, I sort of think Kit has a point here too, although he doesn't handle the situation well at all.

It is strange in that all these things remain priorities. But everything cannot be a priority -- and that's what ultimately happens. You keep whittling away till all that's left are the priority priorities and then you have to start whittling those down because there STILL isn't enough time.

Well, while I agree he didn't handle the situation well, I'm on his side. If someone actively hates me, I'm not going to want to go check up on them either. Unless of course, there was something life threatening going on. Obviously, I'm not that cruel. Or at least, I try not to be. lol.

I've already received so much good advice and encouragement. :-) That was actually quite a good idea. :-D
Now if someone could come up with a great reason to avoid answering the phone, I'd be set!

If you're an introvert like me, you don't need any other reason. You just don't like answering the phone. So turn it off, as Idamus suggested. Or turn the ringer down so you can't hear it.
Also, I gave you two of my favorite quotes. One of them is from a book I know you like, so hopefully you find them helpful. :-)

Let the call go to the answering machine. Then you can decide if you need to answer immediately or if it can wait till later when you have time. There are only very few things that need immediate attention. ;-)

Yep. I'm on the phone all day at work. I tell friends and family to please TEXT me, lol. I hate talking on the phone.

That is difficult! Can I try it in German? :-)http://joshlanyon.blogspot.de/2014/08..."
I love this! I used to play a similar game with a friend during class, more of a line by line thing because we had to pay attention too, but it was a lot of fun :-)
I found the additional bits very entertaining. :-D There's actually an intriguing story developing there!

Me too. I just wanted to say: I love the word kerfuffle. Just perfect.

I read this. I felt relieved, because I've never taken the Twitter plunge and now I don't have to. It does look as though there will be an opening for someone to start a new thing, Twitter Original, for those who don't like the change.

Thoughtful post. I always admire authors, artists and other creative people who take their work, usually written, painted and created with their heart and soul and push it out in the open and show it to others. It's a kind of bravery I'm not sure I possess, to go out so naked, as it seems. When I consider the fact that for most it goes against the grain of their being, it gets even more admirable. But that is what bravery is, isn't it, to do those things you are scared of doing?

That was a very good blog post, a bit of an opening of a Pandora's box, I think. I find it still bewildering how strong the language of the market has invaded the arts and how a society based on the provisions of services seems to expect those services and the friendly facade coming with them not only from a sales person in a shop but from authors and other artists too. That connected with the feeling you as a reader are entitled to a special behaviour on the author's part can make for pretty tentative relations...

I think it's the feeling of entitlement some people have that baffles me the most. Where does that come from? It's unreal.

It is strange, isn't it? And it is so all-encompassing, as if people seem to really think they are the center of the universe, all is here for their taking and there is no need to consider the societal network we are living in.

So many thought-provoking comments (here and on the blog) on Josh's great post. I must say, his blog post really left me pondering over everything related to this subject. And I was wondering... How much more demanding the situation can get (from artists' POV) before they start to escape from the social media entirely?

What I find especially interesting is the idea that writing is a business (correct) and that writers should conduct themselves in a professional manner (again, agreed) BUT that is usually mixed with this...hmm...not quite resentment, but definitely you can feel this confused attitude, an underlying belief that because writing must be a "fun" job because it is one of the arts, writers don't have to be treated in the same way that another "business owner" would be treated.
That authors should supply endless free samples, that they should never react to an unfair or inaccurate review of their product, that they should be open for business at any and all hours, and that all customers should be treated as invaluable.
It's just...very strange.
