Leea | 1437 comments They love lego land. Last time we were in Carlsbad we stay at the resort right across the street and got a 5 day pass... That's just what you do with small kids.

I'm just excited for the outlets and laying by the pool.

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 108 comments I am in such a reading rut. I haven't read a book in 2 weeks. I hope I get past it, but its like every book I pick up I will read 100 pages and quit. it's like nothing grabs my attention :(

lol...I'm a guy, we always come up with answers, even if you don't want them. These are all novellas. Only two longer than 100 pages. Lumberjack in Love is 114 pages, and The Governess Affair is 101 pages.

Alpha & Omega (Alpha & Omega, #0.5) by Patricia Briggs The 7th Month (Detective D.D. Warren #5.5) by Lisa Gardner The Governess Affair (Brothers Sinister, #0.5) by Courtney Milan Lumberjack in Love by Penny Watson

The Governess Affair and Alpha & Omega are both great.

message 308: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I think we should have a novella read. So many of us read a lot of books and it's often hard to find time for all the group reads but I think most people could fit in a novella.

message 309: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 108 comments that's a good idea Ian. Thank you everyone for the suggestions.

message 310: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I found a local Romance Book Club through meetup.com and I went to my first "meet up" yesterday. It was great meeting other romance readers in the area. The only thing was the ladies normally read 1-3 books a month. I felt a little embarrassed to say that I read 10-20 a month. LOL But it was nice to talk to other readers face-to-face. I had a good experience and I'm very excited to make it to more "meet ups" in the future.

message 311: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments How fun!! That's just funny haha!

message 312: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments That is funny!! No need to be embarrassed. :)

Leea how was the race?

message 313: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Yeah...it's funny. It would be nice to know someone in real life who reads just as much as us.

Yeah, Leea...how did the race go. Did you get a Tiffany necklace? I saw a couple of posts on FB from friends who completed the race.

message 314: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I know...someone will say, "Oh, I read a such a good book last week!"

In my head I'm thinking..."Just one?" LOL

The amount of time I spend reading has increased so much since joining Goodreads. I constantly feel like I'm missing out. There are simply too many books and not enough non-working hours in the day!

message 315: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I would love to find a reading group where I live. I think it would be so much fun to discuss books in person.

message 316: by Leea, Escape Artist (last edited Oct 20, 2013 09:27PM) (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I ended up not running the 1/2, I didn't really get time to train and I had a panic attract saturday night thinking about it. It was bad!! I'm really down on myself today, I regret not doing it but I also knew I couldn't do it.

message 317: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments Everyone has to start somewhere, Leea.

That you made it to the starting line in spite of your panic attack is a huge accomplishment in itself. You should be proud of yourself!

message 318: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Leea I think you made the right decision. I understand the feeling - wanting to do something and regret for not having the time. Your time will come Leea. You have such young kids!

message 319: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 108 comments lord I got some distressing news. my cousin in law killed herself last night with her baby asleep beside her. my poor cousin and that poor baby. please remember our family

message 320: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I'm sorry to hear that, Vanessa.

Leea, it's ok. I give you credit for even signing up for it. That is something that wouldn't even cross my mind.

message 321: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Oh Vanessa I am so sorry. Did she suffer from post partum depression?

message 322: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments Leea, don't be down on yourself. You do a LOT in your daily life. Sometimes you have to take a step back so you don't overload and there's no shame in that. Love you!

I'm sorry to hear that, Vanessa. So tragic.

message 323: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 108 comments her daughter is 5 but I believe they had recently diagnosed her as a manic depressive.

message 324: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I'm so sorry for your family Vanessa.

I had a second cousin who was manic depressive and also took her life. She also had a small child and it was so hard to wrap your brain around why she would do that. In the end, she was just sick. Her mind was playing tricks on her and she thought her family would be better without her. She was also a model, very successful. It's just sad.

Thanks ladies, i'm still beating myself up about it today... I can't help it.

message 325: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 108 comments and to top it all off my father in law says infront of the family that I need to lose weight. I weigh 166 I may be a chunk but my God. my feelings are so hurt then my administrator calls me and I had to end up reporting a fellow nurse. omg I just wish I were in bed with Jamie Frasier right now.

message 326: by Peggyzbooksnmusic (new)

Peggyzbooksnmusic Vanessa, so sorry for what your family is going through. Very sad.

Leea, you shouldn't be hard on yourself! With a family and young boys you can only push yourself so far. Running or any activity should be fun and if it isn't then it's time to take a break.

message 327: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 108 comments I have a new sister in law and she loves to read! I was so excited! However our tastes vary considerably from one another. Example, my favorite authors are Virginia Henley and Diana Gabaldon. She loves Janet Evonchivic. I went to the store and bought books from her Stephanie Plumb series and that was when I realized how different our tastes were. She is wanting us to form a reading circle together. Do any of you know some books that mat bridge the gap of our differing tastes? Do I need to make a thread about this? Sorry if I asked this in the wrong place, but it seems that random chit chat is the safest place for me to ask questions without breaking any rules or anything like that. But any suggestions would be wonderful! Thanks.

message 328: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments There's a recommendation thread too, but this is fine.

Hmmm, I'm not sure about books that would bridge the gap between those two series... something with a bit more humor but more heavy on the romance.... have you tried The Hathaway series?

It's a hard one for me because I love Diana Gabaldon and the Stephanie Plum series. (At least up through about book 14, lol.)

message 329: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 108 comments well maybe I could try reading the Stephanie Plum series. At least I could give it a shot.

message 330: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 108 comments The Hathaway series? Who writes that, I will definitely look into it.

message 331: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 108 comments I remember one I bought was Plum Lucky or something like that. I hope I got her one of the food ones :)

message 332: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (last edited Oct 24, 2013 08:50AM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments The first about 13 or 14 of Stephanie Plum are really excellent. Fun, light, and humorous. I absolutely loved them. After that they start to get repetitive and corny.

The Hathaways is this series, just an FYI, it's a spinoff of The Wallflower series by the same author...

The Hathaways:
Mine Till Midnight (The Hathaways, #1) by Lisa Kleypas Seduce Me at Sunrise (The Hathaways, #2) by Lisa Kleypas Tempt Me at Twilight (The Hathaways, #3) by Lisa Kleypas Married By Morning (The Hathaways, #4) by Lisa Kleypas Love in the Afternoon (The Hathaways, #5) by Lisa Kleypas

The Wallflowers:
Again the Magic (Wallflowers, #0.5) by Lisa Kleypas Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers, #1) by Lisa Kleypas It Happened One Autumn (Wallflowers, #2) by Lisa Kleypas Devil in Winter (Wallflowers, #3) by Lisa Kleypas Scandal in Spring (Wallflowers, #4) by Lisa Kleypas A Wallflower Christmas (Wallflowers, #5) by Lisa Kleypas

message 333: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 108 comments Hey I have actually wanted to read some of those books in the Hathaway series. I think that would bridge the gap perfectly! Thank you :)

message 334: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 108 comments Hey maybe Lindsey Sands...sorry wrong spelling of her name...but her books are very funny. Do you think some of those books would work?

message 335: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I haven't read any of hers.

message 336: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) How about Jennifer Crusie - Bet Me is her best I think, followed by Welcome To Temptation. She writes contemporary but both very funny and romantic.

message 337: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 108 comments Hmmm..I don't think I have heard of her but I will definitely look into her books. Thank you! Perhaps the contemporary romance route is the way to go.

message 338: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments You could always read the first book in the Plum series, it's very funny. You may just like it!

message 339: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments One for the Money is good. I think the first books in the series are pretty damned special. The wheels fell off somewhere along the way and it's a bit silly now but it's worth reading at least book 1.

message 340: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Leea, don't apologize for making the right decision for YOU. None of your efforts or training are in vain. And when and if it's right for you, you'll do it! That's who you are. Wendy's right - you have a lot going on in your life, too.

Vanessa, so sorry to hear about your family. Sending best wishes.

Miranda Davis has some very cool Regency Romances that are kind of off the wall funny. They might work for both your sister-in-law and yourself.

The Duke's Tattoo (The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse , #1) by Miranda Davis

Now that I've read the synopsis, I don't need to read the book.

Did it give away too much for your liking?

message 345: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 108 comments I think I might have a sinus infection because of the drastic weather changes...2 wks ago it was like 90 and last night it was snowing! Hello global warming!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments It's like that where I live. The weather changes constantly, sometimes in the same day. It can be 80 degrees one minute, then snowing an hour later.

message 347: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Random question here...has anyone ever melted chocolate to make chocolate molds? I'm having problems and need advice. I'm making Lego chocolate for my son's Lego themed bday party in a couple of weeks.

message 348: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 108 comments I know, right!? Its killing my sinuses. Last night at work I couldn't even chart because it a voice recognition system and it didn't recognize my voice! I need a z pac or something to get rid of this sinus infection I'm afraid. And what's worse is I love love love fall and it went straight from balls soup hot to freezing. I didn't get to enjoy fall at all. But the cold days do make for a nice reading day by the fire :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Are you using a double boiler to do it? If you don't have one, you can put a glass bowl over the pot, as long as the boiling water from the pot below isn't touching the bowl.

I haven't done it in a while, but there's often some sort of addition to the chocolate in order to keep it from breaking, iirc, some sort of fat or cream element.

Lego chocolate sounds like a cute idea.

message 350: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I think my problem is not using the correct type of chocolate. The melting part is okay and I'm placing the molds in the freezer to harden. But when I take the chocolate out of the molds, it's melting at room temperature. I've tried Hershey chocolate and the baking chocolate chips. I'm so not good at this stuff but I really would like to give some Lego chocolate for the kids goodie bags.
