I know. For the most part everyone I have met on goodreads has been so nice.
Am I the only one who finds this annoying? The first two reviews in the review pages are not reviews. The people concerned haven't even read the book and it's marked as "to read".
Seems more and more people are doing stuff like this. There are a few people who have been posting an image of the cover and the books synopsis as their review. I don't mind it if it's used sparingly but one particular reviewer did that in March this year for the book Covet and she finally read and reviewed it in September. I may have quirked an eyebrow when the author liked her review. What's to like? It was the synopsis.
Another book for which a bunch of reviewers did the same thing was Axel by Harper Sloan. A few months ago I went to the books page to look at some reviews....I think it was something like 5 reviews on the first page were a picture of the cover and the synopsis.... reviewers had yet to read the book.
I suspect it's about having their review higher up on the reviews page, and fair enough if that's important to them go for it, but when it's sitting there for 6 months I think it's a bit much.

You're right. It is a bit annoying. You can't learn anything from those 'reviews'.
I hadn't noticed people doing that, but boo to them! When I look up book reviews I expect to get one that is unique to the reader. If I wanted a book summary, I would read the blurb. That's is so lame for people to put out bogus reviews!
I've been seeing this so much lately. This particular reviewer seems like a genuinely nice person and I don't want to be nasty to her...quite a few people are doing exactly the same thing and I guess they wouldn't do it if they didn't think it was OK...but I know I'm not alone in thinking the review space should be for reviews.(view spoiler)

I totally get a squee now and again) or a commentary on the cover, the release date, etc. (because I do that), but yeah if it isn't new info and it isn't a discussion it can annoy me too but I also see where exceptions are also. I like it when the person has information that is not available on GR -- pulls it from the author's website or blog or a tweet, has a new cover and uploads it (and it isn't on GR yet).

I am going to the funeral this morning of that young father/man I posted about dying on the other thread. My two oldest kids are coming as they knew him (my 14 year old, she sang in choir with him) or were friends with his kids (my 10 year old, he has been in catechesis with their oldest daughters since he was 4). I know it is going to be hard, but I just keep thinking - I can leave and go back to my life. This family is living this pain.

I just think there should be reviews on the review pages. People don't go there to know that a book is going to be released soon, they already know that...if they want to read the synopsis it's the first thing they see when they click on the book.
People read reviews to decide if they want to read the book or not. When someone who hasn't read the book posts the synopsis it just takes up space.

I know a few of the top reviewers who will post the book pic and summary, then keep posting teasers, just to farm likes.

The families do appreciate those who help them get through such a heartbreaking day. Besides my Dad's memorial in 2011, we've been to 5 in the last 2 years and it's never easy.

I had to go to the doctor because my sinuses were killing me and then I started getting ear pain. Turns out I have an ear and sinus infection with fluid behind my ear. Man it hurts! Glad I now have meds and decided to just relax at home today.
Regina, funerals are hard. I hope you and your kids made it through okay.
I like reading reviews and do think that the top reviews should be actual reviews. What people write in their review space is their prerogative so I have no issues with that. I just don't like having to scroll through reviews to actually find a review. Goodreads should just update their algorithm to only display books "read" as the top reviews.
Day before Thanksgiving family traditions: We bake until there isn't a pie pan left in my house... I have like 12 Ha!! My father, brother, SIL and new Niece are all coming over to back pies and bond over using our great grandma Grace's trusted crust recipe. I always find it funny because most years i'm the only girl and my father and brother are these big burly men types. I can't wait!!
What a nice and fun family Day Before Thanksgiving tradition, Leea! And that your father and brother bake! Great! They're way ahead of me. I can't make pie crust from scratch for nothing. Have to cheat and use that All Ready pie crusts and they're not as good as they used to be either.

Lisa, my crust never turns out either so I've also used store bought! In fact for the past few years I've bought the grocery story's bakery pies and the family liked them!
Since Mom and MIL are in their 80's they can't make it up the 16 stairs to our condo anymore and no one else is willing to take on Thanksgiving so the whole extended family goes out to a restaurant. Then on Sat I'll bake a small turkey for hubby and younger son. Oldest son will be home at Christmas for 2 weeks!

Sure :)Mix 1 1/2 cup flour, 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 teaspoon salt into a pie pan.
Then whisk 1/2 cup oil and 2 tablespoons milk in a measuring cup. Pour and mix into the flour mixture until all the oil and flour is combined. Then gently press into the pie pan.

Hope everyone is having a good holiday. My family and I are in Las Vegas (last minute trip since my mom in law didn't want to travel this yr) and I haven't time to read much. We're about to head out to Old Vegas and check out the light show.
The hobbit is such a great movie. Can't wait for the sequel. :) your boys will love it.
They're excited... When I said, "we've got to clean up all the legos in the playroom so we can watch the Hobbit." They ran to clean up. Haha!
Now that is excitement! So the movie was supposed to start three minutes ago and it still hadn't started - not even the previews.
I've had a stressful few weeks. I've been driving for 30 years, and in those 30 years I have never once had to replace brake rotors...never once have I had power steering fail...I've never had a torsional balancer fall off a car...never replaced an EGR valve...never replaced a gear box...never replaced a clutch...never had central locking or electronic ignition fail. Thank you Ford for giving me so many new life experiences. In it's defence, the turbo still works.
So...this is me telling everyone, don't buy Ford. All of my problems have been mechanical but I've heard of other problems with other models.
My sister works for Department of Community Services and they have a fleet which is largely made up of Ford Focus's ... she's told me that are OK in the city but extremely dangerous on the open road, they drift and if you hold the steering wheel in a fixed positing to drive straight, they apparently wander in random directions. I have a friend who is a police officer and while police are still buying Fords, Highway Patrol have decided they are too dangerous to drive at high speeds.
Oh wow Ian. Car troubles are so stressful. And I always think of the money spent as such a waste. It is also unexpected too so it hits hard. Hoping best week is better.
Just got back from catching fire - caveat - I never see movies. I am always reading or busy working so this is the first movie I have seen in awhile. I loved it! I thought it was really well done. It's been sara since I read the book but I loved the movie.

We now have 2 Jeep Cherokees and love them. Both have high mileage but give us very little trouble. Younger son drives the 95 and I get to drive the 2004; it has AC!
Only Ford I would own would be a Mustang and then only an inline V6 from the 60's: owned one in the 80's and it was very reliable until a drunk driver totaled it. Oh well.
One of my sisters has a Ford Focus and loves it but I never feel safe in it.
Ate too much yesterday as usual! Hubby and I are also cooking a turkey tomorrow since we ate out with the family on Thanksgiving and he loves turkey sandwiches. I can take or leave the turkey meat but can't resist all of the side dishes! Dressing, yum! lol!
Yeah, I think in the 80s Fords were pretty good cars. It seems to me that the problems with them started around the late 1990s. We're trying to get rid of it. Hopefully that moves forward in the next couple of days. I'd love a Jeep.

Sorry but I meant we bought a 65 Mustang in the 80's. Yeah Fords sure went downhill in the 90's.
To be honest I'm not actually very knowledgeable about cars but hubby has been in the car industry most of his working career plus he has always loved old cars and used to buy them to fix up and then sell to make a little extra cash. He still works on his '63 VW Bug although it's STILL in the shop waiting for parts from the accident!

Our son loves pumpkin pie for breakfast! But I don't bake pies so they are store bought. Our grocery store has a fairly good bakery.
Have you ever looked at all the books with wolves, lions, angel wings and leather clad women on the cover and thought to yourself, eh, whatever. Well, this book has a chicken on the cover!!! Browsing the titles at Netgalley and I see a chicken and I think, I want to read that because there's...well a ¡ chicken ! on the cover.
Speaking of covers...I kind of want to teach the waxed chest models you see on a lot of romantic suspense how to hold a gun. It really bugs me for some strange reason. Maybe it's just sour grapes.

Are you worried about seeming rude and alienating a reader -- is that what you are conflicted about? I think it is weird that they got your personal account, so I agree with Wendy. I wouldn't respond. If they wanted all of that they could have reached out through your author contacts.
Ah. I am worried that if you engage at all they may take it as evidence of your interest too -- I am guessing this may be a situation where either way is taken wrong.
I agree, responding could be seen as interest. Usually if you just ignore them you don't hear anything further. It is odd that it's your personal account though.
When creepers like that message me, I ignore it.

I know this may not be suitable for her but something like this could help her communicate...apparently you can train your mind to move them in different ways. Probably very simple, yes, no sort of stuff I wonder if it could be adaptable to make more complex communications possible.
