Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I guess that is what makes Flynn so good. She does write complex stories, with great characters and they are not predictable.

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments So who is reading Possession (Fallen Angels, #5) by J.R. Ward -- this series continues to disappoint me, not sure why I want to read it but I do!

message 3353: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments LOL, I never made it past the first one.

message 3354: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Not sure why I did! But the 2nd was better. But it is a sea-saw series in terms of quality and style. But not sure why, I am wanting to read it.

message 3355: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments They have pretty covers, and I have always felt like I should continue just for the cameo's but I just never did.

I haven't read this one yet. It's an up and down series for me. That's how I would describe it.

message 3357: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments It's frustrating when an author is so hit or miss, because you don't want to miss out on the good ones, but you don't want to waste your time with the others.

message 3358: by Samantha (last edited Sep 15, 2013 10:42AM) (new)

Samantha | 419 comments Exactly, Angie. I have a feeling authors like that. Plus I fell out of love with Ward's writing a while ago. Her series got to be. Bit too much. However this one is ok. I think most try to compare it with the BDB series and its not that.

message 3359: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments LOL -- so they know we buy out of fear! I did spend way too much on the last BDB new release.

I don't compare the series, one of my problems is that out of nowhere she will rely on storylines and styles that worked for her in BDB -- but that these were not initially in the Fallen Angels' storyline so it isn't consistent. I think the concept of the series is is very unique and interesting. Just not equally executed in all of the books. This one is $11.99 in ebook form!

And I compare that with Ilona Andrews new release, which is such a solid series and her new releases are 7.99.

message 3360: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments I agree.

message 3361: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Glad you're back Regina. You were missed.

About Maya Banks "Sweet" series - yeah, I think I read the first two books but after the second one, I just couldn't take it. That was also me just stumbling onto erotic books.

I never got into the Fallen Angles series, like Wendy, I couldn't finish the first book. Every release it seems that Ward raises the prices of her books. What's up with that? honestly she needs to just cool it because the last few haven't been that great, IMO.

Finished The Chief (Highland Guard, #1) by Monica McCarty and I loved the relationship parts, finally a couple that talked and was honest. I loved Christina, she was honest and caring. Tor was just hot. I admit to skimming the political stuff because it was just too much of an into drop and with all the scottish names, I couldn't keep it all straight. McCarty did put together a great foundation for the next book. So I do plan on reading the next book.

Now i'm reading an arc Louder Than Love by Jessica Topper - so far the writing is not what I expected, I mean the cover makes it seem like a traditional CR. The writing has the beautiful woven feeling already. Tree's heartbreaking loss is palpable. So far I think this is going to be a heartbreaker.

Samantha | 419 comments Reading The Summer Garden (The Bronze Horseman, #3) by Paullina Simons and Blind Obsession by Ella Frank

message 3363: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Oh man, Samantha make sure to have the tissue handy for the Summer Garden. It's an amazing ending for the series. Can't wait to hear what you think.

message 3364: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments I know. I was so afraid to jump back into this world. It is so emotional and intense. Just a great trilogy. I'll let you know my thoughts. I do miss Shura!

Me neither!

message 3366: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) I read Ride with Me by Ruthie Knox which while not as good as About Last Night, has definitely made Knox an author I'll continue to check out.

message 3367: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Leea...I agree about The Chief. It was a nice book but information overload. Let me know when you read the next one...we can buddy read again!

Samantha, enjoy the Summer Garden. That book was very emotional for me.

I loved the audio for this series and that's why I kept listening but they messed it up for the last book - they sped it up so much trying to cut the length - that it spoiled the whole thing for me. I didn't love the series enough to read it in print so unless they fix audio #4, I won't be listening to this one.

message 3369: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I rememeber that and was thinking about that. They never fixed it?! So crazy.

message 3370: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I haven't checked in a while, Regina. I was so freaking mad!

I'm reading this book for the cover alone. Wowza!

message 3372: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Ride with Me was a cute book. I enjoyed it!

I'm listening to Succubus on Top (Georgina Kincaid, #2) by Richelle Mead - book has been on my TBR for a couple of years - and also reading Texas Destiny (Texas Trilogy, #1) by Lorraine Heath .

message 3376: by Peggyzbooksnmusic (new)

Peggyzbooksnmusic Finished A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness Gave it 4 stars and am looking forward to continuing the series with #2 Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, #2) by Deborah Harkness

Also read Defend and Betray (William Monk, #3) by Anne Perry #3 in the William Monk historical mystery series. 3 stars although didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first 2. That usually means I need to take a break from the series!

Started Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See last night. It's my first Lisa See book. Am loving this one!

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 173 comments gonna start Counterpoint (Song of the Fallen, #1) by Rachel Haimowitz . i've been itching to read this plus i need a good book to read in between listing to Lover Mine

message 3378: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I really liked Parting Gifts by Lorraine Heath -- it is interesting that that book also involves a brother that falls in love with his brother's fiance/wife.

I forgot to say how much I LOVED Magic Rises (Kate Daniels, #6) by Ilona Andrews - -audio was great. Damn I loved this book. Curran didn't piss me off, I can see why it irritated other people it just seemed silly to me.

message 3381: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Regina, I cannot wait to read Magic Rises... So glad you liked it.

I finished Louder Than Love by Jessica Topper and it was very good. Almost reminded me of How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie DeBartolo . Shades of that book ladies... Adrian is this beta but he's so dang adorable. A fallen rock star.

Now i'm reading our group read The Return of Rafe MacKade (The MacKade Brothers, #1) by Nora Roberts . This is my second Nora Roberts book.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I'm already looking forward to the weekend. haha!

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I'm glad to hear you liked Louder Than Love by Jessica Topper , Leea. I want to read that one and was wondering about it!

I requested from Netgalley, but, alas, Penguin is anti-Angie! LOL

I am reading Echo Bay Christmas by Gina Robinson .

message 3392: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) DG - crossing my fingers you get what you were looking for before moving on.

Hey all - been on another whirlwind. Caught a cold and ugh! But I've been reading. I got started on the Lady Julia series again, starting with Silent in the Grave (Lady Julia, #1) by Deanna Raybourn . While I find the books a bit slow, especially getting to the heart of the whodunnit, but I must enjoy them, because I'm already into book 3 again. Behind in reviews and re-reviews. But I remember the 1st time I read Silent in the Grave, I was a bit shocked. Ha! I've come a long way... LOL!

Didn't get to The Chief (Highland Guard, #1) by Monica McCarty re-read yet. But looks like Leea and Kay have finished. It's been awhile since I read it, so while I viewed your spoilers, I honestly don't remember enough to discuss the book.

MARCELLA, did that book ever come through for you from me? I hope so!

Revealing Us (Inside Out, #3) by Lisa Renee Jones - got this one, and got part-way in, but had to DNF it for now. It's annoying me. The whiny back-and-forth attitudes of Chris and Sara remind me too much of Christian and Ana in FSOG; and that was the MOST IRRITATING thing (to me) about that series. So not liking Chris and Sara's whines and crap.

IAN - are you liking The Bone Season (The Bone Season, #1) by Samantha Shannon ? What are your thoughts? How far are you?

Regina and Wendy - I think I read Spook Squad (PsyCop, #7) by Jordan Castillo Price too quickly, and I admit that I hoped for more between Vic & Jacob in the book. It's part of what makes them so hot to me. But after reading your thoughts on that book in that thread, I see it now. When I have time, I'll pull back and re-read it. I see it as a bridge book, too; I guess I'd just hoped that we weren't going in that direction as quickly as we seem to be.

So many good books being discussed here! I have a ton to read, and I'm in one of those moods where I just want comfort - re-reading beloved books rather than starting anything new. Hoping it's just the cold talking.

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Thanks Lori!

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) I finished Bound by Night (MoonBound Clan Vampires, #1) by Larissa Ione . Before I read it, I had wondered if it would be more like the Demonica or LOD series. It doesn't have the feel of either. It was an odd Ione reading experience. Not bad, but not what I expected. : /

Now it's time for a Christmas anthology - The Sugar Cookie Sweetheart Swap by Donna Kauffman . It looked cute.

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) Regina wrote: "So who is reading Possession (Fallen Angels, #5) by J.R. Ward -- this series continues to disappoint me, not sure why I want to read it but I do!"

I read Covet (Fallen Angels, #1) by J.R. Ward . Can't remember if I read the 2nd book. This series should stand on its own feet, but BDB cookies get thrown in to interest fans. : /

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Are there 5 books in that series already? I think I have to read 4.

@Marcella: The 5th book, Possession, releases Oct. 1.

message 3400: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 27 comments Finished Into the Hollow (Experiment in Terror, #6) by Karina Halle . I loved it and I'm really looking forward to knowing what is going to happen in Come Alive (Experiment in Terror, #7) by Karina Halle . Not that Into the hollow had a cliffhanger. On the contrary, it had a tad of end-of-series taste for me.

Onto Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles, #1) by Melina Marchetta .
