Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished Serendipity (Serendipity, #1) by Carly Phillips and didn't really care for it. I just started reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell .

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Wow...I loved Eleanor & Park....didn't even know RR had a new novel out. Is Simon Snow a real person?

No, he's not. He's a fictional character in a book series similar to Harry Potter. The MC writes fanfics about Simon & friends. She just started college and is stand offish...kind of a loner. That's all I got so far. I can't wait to read more.

message 3206: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Sweet, off to get it! I loved Eleanor & Park so much.

I read a bit of A Bad Day for Sorry and I like what i've read some far.

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I finished up Shakespeare's Landlord today - I def. enjoyed it much more than the Sookie series (what I read of it)

message 3208: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I also really enjoyed the first two in that series.

I liked the Shakespeare series also, Dee. The series ends strong and I didn't want it to end.

Ohh, I keep forgetting about this series. I only read the 1st in the Sookie series and it just wasn't for me but Lisa told me the Shakespeare series would probably be more to my liking. Have come to the conclusion that I'll probably never read all the books I want to in my lifetime!

message 3213: by Dee (new)

Thanks, Dee! Think that our library has this series for Kindle :D

message 3215: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Just looked at my reviews. I really enjoyed 1 and 3. 2 I thought was just bad and I ended up dnfing 4 - I was so upset about that one. I like Harris's writing style and just enjoyed 1 and 3 so much, but in book 4 she makes several comments as to how rape victims are typically promiscuous or something like that.

message 3216: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments were they comments from someone else? because that is a common misconception...and I heard it all the time as the SAVI person on my ship

message 3217: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments It was Lily's internal monologue - lily of all characters.

message 3218: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments hmmm...i might have to check it out to see the context i think

I don't recall that and believe it would've turned me off so either I skimmed it, spaced it or took it in a context that didn't offend me. It may be that I already expect that common misconception and that's why a lot of rapes go unreported. Besides being treated like you did something to deserve the rape. Oh man, don't get me started! I'm shutting up now.

message 3220: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I agree lisa! I just re read my review. It was that a murdered woman out herself inline for being murdered bc she was promiscuous. Sorry - for writing it wrong.

I still feel the pull to go back. I do like how she writes. Maybe if I skip to the next one.

Kenzlei | 13 comments just started The Perfect Play (Play by Play, #1) by Jaci Burton I hope it's good

message 3222: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) So The Keep by Jennifer Egan was definitely worth the read.

message 3223: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Wow! So many postings to catch up on!

Glad others are reading the A Bad Day For___/Stella Hardesty books. Regina's spot on with these books - they're gritty, and while you might not think you have anything in common with the characters at first, don't let that fool you. Great reads! I just got the 3rd one A Bad Day for Scandal (Bad Day, #3) by Sophie Littlefield from my e-library.

But today was a release day. Wouldn't you know that I just got approved by Netgalley for the last Lisa Renee Jones Revealing Us (Inside Out, #3) by Lisa Renee Jones the same day it came out? (Today!) ARGH! Was hoping to save some $ on that one, but oh well.

Fountain of Secrets by Anita Clenney just came out today, too. I have to read the final version of the book to see which of my comments/suggestions were incorporated. I just love Anita Clenney books! She's a great author; I love working with her, and I'm privileged to be a Beta Reader for her. Can't wait to get my hands on the Beta version of the next Warrior's series book of hers. Should be soon.

Also, the latest Mackenzie book by Jennifer Ashley came out today, The Untamed Mackenzie (Highland Pleasures, #5.5) by Jennifer Ashley - this one's about Inspector Lloyd Fellows, the illegitimate Mackenzie. Already sucked into that one.

Too much going on right now!

I love this series! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. The covers to this series are some of the best I've ever seen.

message 3225: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Regina and Lori, in the Stella H books is there every any romance for Stella? I don't mean sex but (view spoiler)

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) @LoriMcD...Did you get the MacKenzie arc or purchase the ebook? It didn't show up until Friday on NG. Not so advanced.

If anyone sees Daniel Mackenzie's book on NG or Edelweiss please post! ;)

Right now, i'm reading The Seduction of Elliot McBride. It's...okay. Definitely won't be my fave in the series.

Got the actual book, Anna - no ARC for me. I haven't seen an ARC for Daniel's book yet, but I haven't looked in awhile.

Elliot's book... well, for me, none was as good as Ian's book. But Elliot reminded me a bit of Ian. Although I was miffed that she went off the Mackenzies to do a McBride book.

LEEA - about Stella... (view spoiler)

message 3228: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Leea there is romance and sex eventually. First there is interest and then there is romance but not till much later on.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Marcella wrote: "I just found out something at work that royally pissed me off. I do not know what to do. Ugh!"

Can you share?

message 3242: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Yeah I can! Just some background information, my sis and I work together at a law firm. I am a senior legal assistant and my sis is a "level" entry legal assistant. We have had some problems with the office manager. She has a very close relationship with the managing partner here and when the occasion arises she will throw one of us under the bus and sabotage my sis and I in order to make her and her brother in law look good.

The latest shit that happened is that my sis mistakenly clocked out at 5:00 p.m. when she really left at 3:30. She filled out her time sheet in the morning anticipating she would leave at 5. My nephew calls her for a ride and she had to leave early. The office manager pointed that out that she left early. She said she would still pay her but take that out of her personal time.

A few things piss me the f*ck off about this: first, my office manager left before my sis so how did she know that she left early? Someone is watching us apparently. Second, the office manager's brother in law always leaves early and LIES on his time sheets without any reprimand because the office manager is the one that handles payroll, so the law partners never see what is going on. Lastly, there is not a damn thing we can do about this because if the relationship between the office manager and law partners (who are husband and wife).

We know that if we say anything, we will most likely lose our jobs even though there is no basis. We have an excellent work ethic and we work our asses off. These f*cktards that work here do not know that they are doing.

WE ARE STUCK!!! :-( I just want to cry right now.

P.S. SORRY FOR MY RANT

message 3243: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments ugh that's a pain in the butt Marcella - I know i've had to do that before...all i do is go into my timesheet the next morning and make the changes; write the note of justification and resubmit...so the fact that they are out to sabotage...

message 3244: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments I do not understand her motives for the sabotage. We work hard and so are jobs damn well. I think it may be jealousy that the attorneys look toward my sis and I are help on things regarding their cases. The office manager handles the administrative stuff. I actually deal with the files. Her brother in law is uneducated and speaks broken English. He doesn't understand much about what we do so I think she covers for him by pointing the finger at us, mainly my sister.

I just do not know what to do. We need this job but at the same time the injustice makes me sick.

message 3245: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments because she doesn't want you guys to get ahead of her/what she perceives is her place in the firm...so by sabotaging you, she can ensure it never happens

do you have a human resources person?

message 3246: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments She is the human resources person and office manager. We go to her with all our concerns/complaints and she takes it to the partners. We are a fairly small law firm. There are 5 attorneys.

When it comes to the managing partner she thinks the office manager walks on water.

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) @Marcella...Maybe it's time to scout some firms. You can also document hostile work environment situations and/or harassment. Last option: talk to the partners.

@Leea...I like the Claire choice!

message 3248: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments The thing with talking to the partners is that I'm pretty sure they won't believe us. The managing partner especially adores the office manager. She spends time with her family all the time. The MP is so desperate for friends she won't do the right thing.

I would look for another job but I know if I leave before my sis does they will make her life more miserable. This job has flexibility and she needs that. She's a single mom with two boys. They are in sports and she's real involved with their activities.

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) What if your sis begins job hunting first or puts the feelers out? Or, perhaps today was just a very bad day. I stayed with a horrible boss for 8 years, so I understand. It's easy to say find something else. : /

message 3250: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments hey Marcella, so sorry to hear about your troubles at work. I'll be using all my magical powers for the next 45 minutes to send them both a chronic and debilitating case of crotch itchiness... don't stand too close I wouldn't want you to be the victim of friendly fire.
