Kate (kaitlins16) -Start dates: I think we can start on Friday or Saturday (for you) for the mod stuff. I can start with the First Impressions the day after tomorrow to just kick things off and get people aware of what's happening. Sometimes, it takes awhile to get people aware of things going on.

-I'm thinking that we can have open sign ups where someone can enter any time throughout the month. That gives a chance for new members that we get to participate. All participants would have to sign up in the main challenge thread, and would have to tell us which of our activities they are participating in. The thread for that could either be the main challenge one I have already or a separate sign up thread altogether.

-I'm not sure with the scoring system. I just know that we need to make all the activities on a similar scale. So, if you want to stick with the points for your challenge, I'll have to make sure that the other stuff match up (but not with as large number of points because I've got daily points; I might go with two points for every daily first impression and nomination).

I like how you have the easy, medium, and hard activities. I'm thinking of having a few more activities to do with the nominations, so members can earn more points.

message 352: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) Yep, that would be good.

message 353: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) You would put in the Book Club Challenge Folder and title it Jenny's . . . (whatever name you want to give it). I called mine Favorites Lists.

You can come up with whatever activities you would like to promote the games section. Chelsea's section will probably be up Friday/Saturday, but you could start a day or two earlier if that works better for you.

message 354: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) You know our BOTM suggestion threads? Do you think it would be better if we only had two of those--one for themes and one for nominations? It seems that we only need two anyway.

Elizabeth | 2466 comments hey everyone I'm back for little bits at a time if there is anything I can help with let me know I'm trying to get caught up with everything so much happened in a short time

message 356: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) Elizabeth! We missed you. It's so nice you're back (even of it's bits at a time).

message 357: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Hey, it's awesome to hear from you again! :)

message 358: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) After you get that sorted out, you can send a group message saying the mod mini challenges part of the Book Club Challenge are all up, and include links to all three. It might be that not many people know about your challenge.

message 359: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments *Sigh* You can lead a horse to water, but you can not make it drink. Being philosophical FTW. :D

message 360: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Um what should we do about the Featured Books folder? I think it would be a good idea if we re-start it as a single thread like your first impressions challenge and continue it long term like that. What do you guys think?

message 361: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) Sure.

message 362: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Hey I was wondering hoe we will add up/collect the points (when will the challenge end?) I would do it but I am getting teeth pulled out today (I'm getting braces) so I'll be in a whole world of pain for the next while:)

message 363: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) Would you be able to count up the points in your section? I'll be adding everything together, so you could send me the list of participants and their points.

If you are unable to do that, I'll count yours.

message 364: by Chelsea (last edited Jul 25, 2013 10:21PM) (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments I'll be able to do mine and I'll put it up on my challenge thread. Thanks! :)

message 365: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Got my teeth done and not bad. I will have the points in my category added up on 29th.

message 366: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) I'm thinking of a way to lessen the number of folders. Do you think it would be better to get rid of the genre folders, and put the threads all in one. We can edit the titles so they have the genre with them.

message 367: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments I think that would be a good idea. It will help a lot! I don't think the genre in the title would be necessary though.

message 368: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) Okay. I'll do that today.

message 369: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments I'm really sorry :(, I can't be a Mod anymore.

message 370: by [deleted user] (new)

Should we put up a thread for October book nominations now, since it was a little late last month and not many people nominated? I don't think it would hurt to put it up early.

message 371: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) Yeah.

Olivia (Bookcomet) | 80 comments Mod
Sounds like a plan :)

I was thinking we could have a section for r2rs? I have see this on a couple of groups and it is pretty successful. It could bring in some new members, make the old ones more active and of course help promote the author. We could get word around by advertising on our blogs and I can ask authors I am in touch with...just an idea.

Kate (kaitlins16) Jenny wrote: "I've been thinking that our group is on theslow side these days and so maybe if there are any discussions that have not been active for about three-four months then they could be deleted. We should..."

I like that idea.

It seems you know how to go about that! It would be a good idea to create a section for that in the group.

Read to review. Members of the group can get e-copies of an author's book in return for an honest review.

Yeah, that's right! I think I could try...I have two authors in mind. You guys have any ideas? I could try and turn the group picture into a widget to go on my blog sidebar and I could send it to you guys if you want it?

message 378: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) I would definitely put that widget on my blog. :-)

Kaitlin wrote: "I would definitely put that widget on my blog. :-)"

Great! I'll have a go soon!

message 380: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't blog, so I'll just let you guys work this out :)

Athena wrote: "I don't blog, so I'll just let you guys work this out :)"

Oh, ok. I have made the widget! Just go to my blog (I have a link from my profile) and then onto the free widgets page. The code is there. Let me know if it doesn't work because I might have different settings to you.

message 382: by [deleted user] (new)

That sounds cool, would we have a poll for which books? And would it replace a BOTM?

Olivia (Bookcomet) | 80 comments Mod
Sounds great, I like Athena's idea too.

Olivia (Bookcomet) | 80 comments Mod
I'll set up the read2review page soon :)

message 385: by [deleted user] (new)

Alright sounds good :)

message 386: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 20, 2013 04:07PM) (new)

Should we put the polls for BOTM up now? And I was wondering, we forgot to make a theme poll and a themed book for this month, as well as a challenge book/series readalong because there wasn't a challenge this month so I was wondering if we should just take the top 3 from the poll for general book?
And maybe next month start a new series?

message 387: by [deleted user] (new)

I do like this banner, but something new could work well yes :) I'm not sure about the name, its up to you. I made the poll, I hope I did it right it's my first time and next month we can put up a page for a new series suggestion, and also choose some themes to put on the poll (we could also add some theme ideas) :). So should we have one BOTM next month or take the top 3 from the poll?

Olivia (Bookcomet) | 80 comments Mod
Yeah, the group has been quite slow...that could work. Do we have anything we can giveaway? That always attracts a crowd. We could do the Libboo thing again, except I don't know how to get enough buzzes quickly.

message 389: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) Hey, we can do something for banned books week! We can create a few new topics about it.

message 390: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) Sending out group messages about our updates can be effective. It would be a good idea to send one out to the group informing everyone of our new r2r system.

Olivia (Bookcomet) | 80 comments Mod
I'll try on libboo again too. I like the banned books thing, it would probably make for an interesting discussion. Maybe we can get discussions going on popular ones and even have a poll for your favourites?

Olivia (Bookcomet) | 80 comments Mod
I don't know if you guys noticed, but we just had our first author sign up for read2review!

Kate (kaitlins16) Livvvy75 wrote: "I don't know if you guys noticed, but we just had our first author sign up for read2review!"

I did notice that! Would you send a group message when you get the thread for the book set up?

Sure!

Olivia (Bookcomet) | 80 comments Mod
How do you send a group message? I know I should know how but I can't see anything anywhere!

message 396: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) Go to the members page and on the very bottom you'll see "broadcast a message to all members." Then you can send a message.

I suggest introducing yourself as a brand new moderator because it's your first message as a mod of the group.

message 397: by [deleted user] (new)

I have sent out a poll invite, since I forgot to do that when I made the poll, and also want to let you guys know I will be on holidays away from a computer from the 28th of September to the 5th of October. I will have my phone and so will be ale to participate via the app but if I run out of credit or if it expires, I won't be here. Also it's a beach holiday so I will be quite busy and will not be very active but I'll be back on the 5th :)

Olivia (Bookcomet) | 80 comments Mod
Ah, ok thanks.

Yay! Thanks! But I was wondering if one of you guys would mind taking over contacting the authors on the read2review sign ups for a bit. I'm really sorry but I'm going to be offline for a while so I won't be able to do it. Thanks again :)

Olivia (Bookcomet) | 80 comments Mod
I have contacted the new two authors, just waiting for a response from one and organising a time with the other.
