Heather (bigaitchc) Hi, sorry newbie question. I want to join the A-Z yearly challenge, do I just post in the thread, and do I keep updating the same post? If so, is there a way to flag the post so I can get back to it quickly as I'm not sure how I will find it again?

message 153: by Cassandra (last edited Jan 10, 2015 12:34PM) (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Hi Heather, I'm the leader for that challenge. To participate, just post in the thread. Some people choose to continue to update the same post, others keep track of the challenge in their member corner and just make new posts with their updates. If you do update the same post, I ask that you also post a new message letting me know to go check your original post.

When you make your post, I can give you the link for it, which you can bookmark or add to your favorite links for easy access.

message 154: by Heather (new)

Heather (bigaitchc) Brilliant, thank you, I'm off to join and a link would be great.

message 155: by Mary-jo (new)

Mary-jo | 18 comments Hi, I put my 2015 Challenge in the 101+ section by mistake. Could you please move my post to the 51-100 section instead. Sorry! Still learning to navigate! Thanks!

message 156: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments All set, Mary-Jo!

message 157: by Mary-jo (new)

Mary-jo | 18 comments Thank you! :)

message 158: by Mary (new)

Mary (goodreadscomuser_marymic) | 4 comments How do I change the status of a book from to-read, to currently reading? I just spent a ridiculous amount of time mousing around and now I'm frustrated.

message 159: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Mary, the best way to do that is to go to the homepage and off to the left there's a section that says "Currently Reading". In small print in that section there's a link that says "add a new book". Click on that, and you can search for a book to add to your currently reading. If it was on your to-read, it will automatically be moved over.

When you're done reading it, go back to that section and click on "update status" next to the book. You can either update your progress in pages or if you're completely finished, click "I'm finished". It will then pop up a box where you can rate and review. It isn't necessary to review, but it's nice to at least throw a rating up there.

The nice thing about this process is that it automatically moves books around on your shelves and puts in a "date read" so the book gets added to your 2015 challenge widget so you don't have to worry about it.

message 160: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments To the right of a book is a tab that says "Want To Read" and on the right side of that tab is a picture of books. Click on the image of the books and options come up, "read" "Currently Reading" and others.

message 161: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments And those are the two ways of changing book status. :)

Hi! So I think I accidentally posted my thread for my challenge in the wrong place. I only have a mobile version of the app and I'm not sure how to fix this conundrum. What should I do?
I also am unsure how to edit a topic/thread once I've made it...

Thanks,
~Crystal

If you go onto the website you will see next to a thread you've made, it will say 'edit' and that will let you move it to a different folder and change the title. If not, I'm sure one of the mods will be able to move it for you. Hope that helped. :)

message 164: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Tubbs (crystal2305) Oh, thank you! :)

message 165: by Trinity (new)

Trinity No problem. :)

message 166: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Did you get it figured out, Crystal? Looks all good to me.

message 167: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Tubbs (crystal2305) I did! Thank you :) it took me a little bit to find the "desktop view" on my phone but i got it.

message 168: by ChrisP (new)

ChrisP Poyner | 387 comments I have noticed that some readers are able to create a link to a previous post. For example "Message 30 Updated" I know how to create links to drill into different lists and other things. Is it the same if it is a running feed?

message 169: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments To find the URL for individual post, right click (for PCs) the time stamp on the post to get the link address. For example, ChrisP, your URL for that comment is: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

This is now the static location of your comment, and you can use it as the link.

message 170: by Kadijah Michelle (new)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments Hi, the 6K Q2 Challange links aren't working, and the feed can't be commented on.

message 171: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments Hi Kadijah,

The threads for the 6000 extravaganza are closed for now. We are waiting until we actually hit 6000 members and then the threads will be open for comments.

message 172: by Kadijah Michelle (new)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments Oh, I'm sorry. I thought we had hit that number. I'll start inviting friends:)

message 173: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments We are close! Only about 25 more members to hit 6,000 right now.

Thanks for inviting your friends, Kadijah Michelle! Share this group with as many people as possible. :)

message 174: by Voracious_reader (new)

Voracious_reader | 76 comments I probably missed this: how does one share the group?

message 175: by Cassandra (last edited Feb 06, 2015 06:31PM) (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Does this invite members link work for you? I can't tell if it's a shareable link, because you have to be logged in to work. That should allow you to invite your Goodreads friends.

message 176: by Voracious_reader (new)

Voracious_reader | 76 comments Yes, I think so. Thank you!

message 177: by Kim (new)

Kim Sanders Hi, hello, being a new member and having never joined a challenge, I have a couple of questions about the monthly challenges. If I join the February challenge today (Feb 9), can I use the books I've already read in February to help meet the challenges listed? Or do I have to start fresh? I don't want to seem like cheater or a weirdo. I hope to join more challenges, once I get the rules straight in my head.

message 178: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Kimberly, that's a great question. You can use all books read in the time period even if you hadn't yet joined the challenge. You can use any books already read in February for the monthly challenge.

Thanks for responding, Kara. And, that is awesome news. I will join the challenge now.

Hey Mods! I wanted to make people aware of this event that is happening at the Irving Convention Center. If anyone in the DFW area is interested, this event takes place on March 7, 2015. Most of the activities will be free. Parking is supposed to be 5.00 for most vehicles. Should be an awesome event. I'm going and if anyone else from this group would like to meet up, I'd love to get together and talk books!

JoJo Kirkman (jojo2013) | 813 comments For the One, Two, Buckle My Shoe challenge, I have to read the thickest book on my TBR. What's the best way to find out what the thickest book is?

Zara's Retreat | 2365 comments Joanne wrote: "For the One, Two, Buckle My Shoe challenge, I have to read the thickest book on my TBR. What's the best way to find out what the thickest book is?"

Hi Joanne,

When you bring your book shelf up there's a settings section at the top of the list. Click on this link which will bring up a list of options for you to choose from. Find the one titled 'num pages' and click the box next to it. This will then show up the pages for each book you have on that shelf.

Does this help?

message 183: by Berit (new)

Berit | 140 comments Just so you know I created two folders for my personal 2015 goal, as well as a folder for my member place, two of them are in general do not know how to move them. I think on the app they just automatically put them in the general area. Looking forward to being part of this group. Do you guys ever have team challenges? I just participated in one and it was so much fun!

message 184: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments Hi Berit,

I deleted your extra personal folder and moved the other two.

Your personal folder is in the Personal Challenge 51-100 section.
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Your challenge thread has been moved to "Members Corner"

Berit | 140 comments Thank you so very much, I appreciate it!

message 186: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments You are welcome.

message 187: by Lena (new)

Lena Zhu I actually had a question about the 2015 reading challenge in general. What happens if you pass your goal? Does it just stop counting or are you allowed to create a new goal?

message 188: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments It keeps going, so it'll track how many books by which you've surpassed your goal.

message 189: by Karen (new)

Karen Mockoviak | 274 comments I'm currently reading Naked Heat by Richard Castle and it has 404 pages but the book description says 290. Wasn't sure if that could be fixed?

message 190: by Janet (new)

Janet (goodreadscomjanetj) | 784 comments Karen - When you go to the page for the book where the description says 290 hit the link for other editions. When you find the edition that has 404 pages hit the button that says switch to this edition.

message 191: by Karen (new)

Karen Mockoviak | 274 comments Thank You!

message 192: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments Are any of you librarians for goodreads?

message 193: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat | 2365 comments Hi Winter,

I'm a GRs Librarian

message 194: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments Great! I thought maybe some here would understand the need to have the correct version with correct pictures.

In Norway we have a ongoing series named World Library (Verdensbiblioteket). It's authors from many countries going together and voting for the 100 best books. Many of these books are here, the correct version and everything. They are beautiful books and of course the page numbers differ from other versions.
I tried to make one for one I couldn't find with correct version and picture. The ISBN was the same as another and the picture doesn't show which takes from the estetics I think. You can see it on my currently reading (Wuthering Heights/ Stormfulle Høyder

If you look at books read you will find an example from the series with correct picture. Chinua Achebe, Mønsteret rakner (Things Fall Apart)

Any chance you can help?

message 195: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Winter, that's a tough one. I think it would be best if you posted about it in the Goodreads Librarian group. There are tricky rules when it comes to new versions with the same ISBNs.

message 196: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments Okay, thanks :)

message 197: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat | 2365 comments Thanks Kara for helping Winter with this. I was going to post Winter's request in the librarian's group myself to see if anyone could help out.

message 198: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments I found a thread for it. Just need to find the correct information now :)

message 199: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments My corner is for everything I want there? I find myself filling it up with all challenges both from here and elsewhere. That's okay I hope? I love to have them all together, so I hope so:)

I put down quite hard work now to make it look great, will i be able to transfer the tread and use the same upset next year, just erase the old info, but same headlines, posts etc , or do I have to store it in documents on my computer? Good to know before the task becomes to daunting :P

It's so great to be a part of this!

message 200: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Winter, you can put whatever you want in there including challenges not from this group. :)

And we never delete corners, so you're welcome to keep your same corner for next year.
