Lynda | 836 comments Travis, that's scary, blood clots are scary. When they mentioned that tonight, I was a little panicked. Are they putting in a stent, or an angioplasty type procedure? I sure hope it all goes well!

message 2652: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I probably havw mentioned how I have random encoubters all the time at the gas station. Just made a beverage run. Grab orange juice, I prefer to biy oj since my wife buys pulpless amd I think its watered down and nasty. Next door egg nog. Next all the way to the end of aisle to beer. Fairly large store quite spacious me amd 2 other people in store. Guy and girlfriend blocking my path to beer. I assume as I start walking they will naturally ket me by. Nope doesn't seem to be case. Alright guess I need to say excusr me to pass which irritates me since I'm the only other person in store. About to soeak and guy steps in front of me blocking my way staring me down. Ok so this is going to be some sort of situation I guess. Naturally I have no choice but to stare him down back. Finally he says to his girlfriend see I like this guy already. Hey alright I say back to him and begin to walk by really not caring why he likes me. "He's buying eggnog, I told you it isn't Christmas without eggnog.". Oh apparently him and his girlfriend had been having a discussion and he wanted eggnog and she said no. Seriously guy do you need to be so sketchy about things just to complinent my beverages

message 2653: by Joan (new)

Joan Travis - your Grandpa sounds like a hoot! Telling the nurse not to spoil his good water with hospital ice. I hope he is back home bossing his grandson around soon.
Has your friend with PTSD looked into AmVet Dogs PTSD program?

message 2654: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I hope your mum gets better soon Lynda. And the procedure works for your grandpa Travis. A friend of mine (only 32 at the time) had a blood clot in her lung (thought to have travelled from her leg) and they put one of those sieve type things in. She kept it after it was taken out. Funny looking thing.

Sounds like an interesting booze run Travis!

message 2655: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Little behind here from yesterday. Thanks Sarah and Tasha.

Stephanie that sounds like a good idea.

message 2656: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Amd I missed Lynda. They say if they put in the filter, sieve thingy to stop more clots his body should be able to handle rhe one in his heart and I guess pass it through. Not sure what they mean they just say his body will take care of it. Must be a small clot

message 2657: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Lynda, glad to hear your mom is better now. Wow, all these blood clots going on, scary stuff.

I hope things work out with you gdad, Travis. Sounds like the are moving forward, slowly...

Funny story at the store too.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments @Lynda, hope your mother is fine and ready to enjoy Christmas with all of you.

@Travis, it seems they have your grandpa's problem under control.
What would your "friend" from the store think about me who never had eggnog in my life???

message 2659: by Lynda (last edited Dec 22, 2015 06:58AM) (new)

Lynda | 836 comments Thanks everyone, Mom had a restless night, but I've got a healthy day of meals planned for her, and will be able to leave and go to work this morning.

It's already a short week with the holiday, so I'll probably skip the Christmas Eve Candlelight service with my family and instead go to my brothers straight from work. Unfortunately they're predicting snow for Christmas Eve now. I live in the foothills of the Cascades, so windy hilly roads and perfect elevation for the thawing/freezing/thawing/freezing pattern that forms black ice. Truly dislike driving in the snow.

Travis, sending out positive thoughts that the procedure aides your grandfather, and that his body kicks in and takes care of the rest to get him healthy again.

message 2660: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Thanks everyone.

Sandra I never had eggnog until about 3 years ago snd that was more rum than eggnog. I can drink it straight or with rum now. It was the name eggnog that never sounded appealing. Really is delicious and makes some excellent french toast replacing the milk

message 2661: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments @Lynda, that is scary. I'm glad to hear your mom is going to be okay.

I am not an eggnog fan. Yuck! LOL.

Is everyone ready for Christmas? (those here that celebrate anyway). I've still got several gifts to wrap, one gift to buy, and a few bracelets left to make.

I went to the store for groceries and other necessities yesterday and it was a nightmare! I hope I have everything I need for the little bit of stuff I am cooking so I don't have to go back.

I have to come up with something for a 17 year old that costs between $10-20 quick. I really don't want to go to the mall, so she may just get cash. :-/

message 2662: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments What about a gift card, Kimey? I think there's some you can buy online. Never did it, but I heard someone saying that lately.

message 2663: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I've never had eggnog before. I guess it's an American thing. Heard it mentioned in films. I though it was like advocaat but it doesn't seem to be the case.

I've got all my Christmas presents, just need to wrap them up. I have no food yet. I'll have to wait until Xmas eve otherwise it will all go off without a fridge. So I'm not looking forward to food shopping. I'll probably get up early and go. I'm supposed to be making some snacks to take to my aunt's in Xmas day but I'm still not sure what I'm going to make. Something pastry based I expect. We're always a little last minute so I'm not worried.

message 2664: by Lisa (last edited Dec 22, 2015 11:18AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I agree with Sandra, KimeyDiann. Places like Amazon have gift cards that you can buy online. I think Amazon may even do e-gifts where the gift card/voucher is emailed to you and you just print it off and put it inside a card or something.

message 2665: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments French toast with eggnog sounds interesting. I love french toast. I'm not a rum fan, and we do not consume eggnog in Uruguay. Have been interested in tried it since we live in the US and it seems to see so popular. Let's see.

We are last minute people too, Sarah. We only bought the gifts for our kids last Sunday, and still have to wrap them. We didn't decide what to eat neither, so I suppose we'll go shopping tomorrow or Wednesday for whatever we need. It's only us, my husband, my kids and me, so not big deal. (That's 10 people, though)

message 2666: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Mmmmm...eggnog!! Love it! Love it! Love it! Rum or no rum:) it is good to me :)
And is currently in our fridge...rum is in the freezer :)

message 2667: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I'm venturing towards the mall this evening. If I don't find something very quickly and easily, a gift card or cash will have to do.
I wouldn't mind going so much, but this city is laid out in a way so that getting anywhere in the area of the mall is a nightmare if there is very much traffic at all. I made a stop last Friday afternoon and what would normally be a 10 minute drive took closer to 30. That was partly because people block the intersections when the light changes and no one can go forward in any direction. It is a little bit ridiculous and drives me crazy. I think because this is such a rural area, people honestly don't know how to drive in traffic. Even in this small of a city.

Tasha sad but not surprising. I was surprised to see he was my age. I never really thought about it before until I saw he died.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments It was a question of which drugs not was it drugs for most people. And would you believe the toxicology report came back on the day of the 28th anniversary of Motley Crue member Nikki Sixx being declared dead by paramedics of a heroin overdose just to end up bringing him back to life again

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Me and gas stations. So I stop in for bread and eggnog at the same gas station as last night. Have my 5 yr old. Checking out he starts wimpering. Look down and in front of counter tgere is a small ice cream freezer you lean over. The door slides uder counter. Somehow he slid his hand under the counter and got it stuck. Hand lady my money and start trying a rescue effort. Then the crying starts. Clerk comes around and helps me get his hand out. Crying instantly stops. Scared him was all. Get to car I call my wife. Get off phone my son says I think if my fingers were straight they wouldn't be stuck. What do you mean how did you have your fingers. I had them all bent but when I straightened them they came right out. Lol. Freaking kids

message 2675: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments You know at parent conferences, Janice, the teacher said she counts on my son for an answer. She said she may ask a question and have a room full of blank faces but give it a few seconds and Ethans hand will always come up and even if he doesn't have the right answer he always has a logical answer with a reason why he thinks that. So he is a smart little bugger

I'm not surprised.

Kids are so sweet at that age. They grow up fast!

And the relationship between siblings is something beautiful to see. They fight, is true, but they also learn so much together, and they do such amazing things for the others.

Lynda | 836 comments Travis of NNY wrote: "Scott Weilands toxicology came back with cocaine, ectacy amd something else"

Not surprised, but what a bummer.

I watched the "Amy" doc this weekend, and every time I hear this story (I'm the same way with Cobain), I soooooooo want it to end differently. It never does.

Just got back from my mom's follow-up with her doctor. Her systolic is much much better, but her diastolic is still concerning. We bought a blood pressure monitor and she has some meds to take if the systolic gets above 160; however, we have to be careful, because she's on so many blood pressure meds, that it might lower her heart rate too much.

message 2683: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments That is true Janice. And not good in so many ways.

Thanks Sandra. It is special to watch kids when they are just getting along and in their own little world.

Good luck with your mom Lynda

message 2684: by Tasha (new)

Tasha My kids are 4 years apart and it's been a good age difference. They got along great as younger kids, rarely ever fighting, and still do at 13 and 9. The sad thing is that my son is moving on in maturity and puberty and his little sister still wants to play with him. She gets it more and more that his interests have changed and he really does try to pay attention to her but I think she really misses those times they spent together. They still get along great though, never fight.

message 2685: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Ahw, that's sad Tasha.

My sister and I are two years apart. We used to fight a lot as kids (although we always stood up for each other when others were involved - we could fight each other but other kids better not try to fight with one of us!), but not anymore. It's more like friends now :)

message 2686: by Tasha (last edited Dec 23, 2015 06:12AM) (new)

Tasha That is so like my sister and I, Peggy! We used to fight horribly, physically and verbally, but hurt either of us and we had each other's back. I still remember in elem school when my best friend was doing something to my sister, I can't remember exactly what, but I turned around and punched her in the face. It was just a reflex. I still remember that moment. We ended up still being great friends so I can't remember what was going on.

Same in our teens and 20s. She spent some time with me in college and while we didn't get along all that well, we still stuck with each other.

Now in our late 40s we actually have finally worked through a lot of our differences and get along well. It's taken that long! haha

Tasha Me too, it's definitely a unique thing. ;)

message 2689: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Ah, sisters. My sis that is closest to my age is 6 years older. We never had anything in common growing up. She was actually very mad when my parent's told her they were having another baby. LOL. But when I almost died during birth, she went to school crying and upset because she didn't want to lose her baby sister.
While we never got in physical fights, we always argued. We just had nothing in common until we were both adults, but now we get along just fine.

I am officially done Christmas shopping! The mall was not as bad as I was afraid last night. I went in just 2 or 3 stores and found my niece a nice scarf and got out of there. Now I just have to finish wrapping gifts and make 4 more bracelets and done!

message 2690: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) I don't have a sister :-( just brothers, they're pretty cool. Well at least one of them is ;-)
My oldest kids boy 19 and girl 18, have phot their entire lives, their each other's best friend and each other's worst enemy, it's kind of a extremely cool relationship, the little brother who is 13, is the coolest little brother on the planet, I hope they realize how lucky they are, he never complains, just goes with the flow

message 2691: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments My brother and I are 2 years apart and we used to fight all the time. My sister is 7 years younger than me and the poor thing had 2 mothers. I was the bossy sister. We all get along really well now.

message 2692: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I just have an older sister. We are 2 years apart. We didn't really get along as kids. We don't have a good relationship. If we see each other (which I haven't seen her in almost 5 years), we get along. Thanks goodness for Facebook or I wouldn't know what my nephews or her are up to these days :)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Everything has been so quiet this afternoon at YLTO. I guess everybody is getting ready for tomorrow. We did some shopping today. We finally decided to do a stuffed pork tenderloin with two different salads. It was my idea but my husband got so excited about it that it seems that he will be the one in charge. That makes the whole thing doubly good. :)
Almost midnight here. Everybody sleeping but my husband, who has been for hours trying to solve some math problem for one of the papers he is working on. I'm reading beside him, enjoying this accompanied silence. I have been with this man for near 20 years (of my 37) and he is each day more handsome. I'm lucky.

message 2694: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Treasure those moments, Sandra! :)

I made stew and dumplings for my dad who arrived this evening. He's reading on his Kindle while I read YLTO. A 1951 production of A Christmas Carol is playing in the background. My ex invited himself over tomorrow morning for coffee and to visit my father. I don't begrudge him that, but while they're visiting, I'm going to bake cookies for a Christmas Eve gathering at friends.

message 2695: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That sounds wonderful Sandra and Janice :)

It has been quiet here! We don't have much preparations to do. I did gift shopping slowly over the past month, we have dinner at my in-laws tomorrow and with my parents on Saturday. I'm going to make soup on Saturday but that's all I have to do. Tonight me and my bf will have a dinner that's a bit more fancy than usual, but it does not require much preparation and bf will do the cooking.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Day 1 of Christmas done. Just had my brother, his partner, my mum and stepfather over for dinner. We usually do Christmas at theirs on Christmas Eve, but my other brother, his finance and their 1 year old have left for Christmas again, so we did it last week. Didn't want Mum to cook Christmas again in a week. So we spent all day shopping, cooking and cleaning, and just finished dinner and a board game.

Now about to start cooking tomorrow's roast pork to slow cook for 12 hours for Lexx's family. Then cousins for a picnic on Boxing Day, and dinner with friends who are here for their family, then more catch ups with friends in town on Sunday AND Monday. Don't people realise I have two books to finish before the New Year?

Benefit is that it has cooled down to a much more manageable 28 degrees, so it's not blood boiling nor threatening us with bushfires for a little while. I am counting my blessings there.
