Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments There you go. See what I mean, not knowing all the things. Hopefully they make a better decision for your grandfather this time. In the meantime, good luck being the water boy!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments The Force wasn't with your jumper :( Sounds like you have a good fix though.

I really cannot imagine taking my clothes somewhere to be washed, or even having someone else wash them. Spoilt Australian here, who has 5 loads of washing to do this weekend.

It's also currently 2.15am, and still 22C (71F). My kneecaps sweated today it's been so hot, I didn't know they could! Going to be 38C (100F) tomorrow and I am going to be tired and grumpy. I have so much trouble sleeping if it's not under 20C. This really doesn't bode well for all of summer, but thank goodness that we should cool down next week for a few days.

We had family Christmas today and Mum roasted a turkey while it was 37C (98F) which is stupid, but deliciously so. There is a reason Australians have started making other types of Christmas food. Roast dinners are ridiculous when it's this hot.

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments That's weird that the laundry would wash bright red with anything else! Red is one of the colours that bleeds the most. How frustrating.

When I first started doing laundry (or anything else), I did it the way my mother did it. My ex insisted that I put bleach in with the wash because that's what his mother did. He regretted that, because he had to wear tied-dyed undershorts until they wore out.

message 2605: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That's annoying Sarah! Will they reimburse you for it?

I never saw any of the Star Wars movies until two months or so ago. My boyfriend said it was very sad that I never watched them so we started watching them together. I've seen the first 3 (the ones made in the 70s) now. I was never interested because I'm not interested in sci-fi, but they're not as bas as I thought. Amusing is how I would describe them.

message 2606: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Tell me about it Rusalka!

We don't have a washing machine on our boat and if we did our washing ourselves at the launderette it would take all day so we take it for a service wash. They wash it, dry it and fold it. They even pair our socks! We've never had a problem there before but it seems that a few people have had issues there, especially things being lost. So we'll go to the one around the corner instead. It's a little more expensive but it's better than stuff getting ruined/going missing. I've not bothered to make a complaint. The service wash cost £10 but that wouldn't cover the cost of the jumper even if they refunded that.

I had to go see Star Wars asap as I didn't want the plot to be spoiled by people on Facebook. I really enjoyed it. I was really exited this morning like a kid at Christmas. There are definitely some cheesy moments in all of the films Peggy, the ones in the 70s particularly. They showed a trailer for the next X-Men film which looks awesome.

It's pretty bleak here today. If feels like it hasn't even properly become daylight and now it's getting dark again. I know we're close to the longest day now.

We've got a Christmas meal tomorrow with my partners' family which should be nice. We're going out to a pub so no one has to cook.

Pleased to hear they know what's wrong with your grandfather Travis.

message 2607: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Yeah it is quite nippy here today. A real sharp wind . you know we always seperated our clothes for laundry but we just chuck everything in the washer at once and nothing runs. Must be the fabric and dye used these days. Now my wife even mixes towels with clothes. That is too much for me I have to seperate towels and wash them together. New towela especially can bleed real bad. But my wife hasnt had a towel bleed into our whites yet. I don't risk it myself

message 2608: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Sorry to hear the laundry ruined your jumper :( but nice of your bf to get you a new one :)
I do our laundry...we don't have much being just the 2 of us (3 if you count the dog, no clothes for him, just his blankets ;) ). I try to do one load a day, that way I'm not spending all weekend doing laundry :)

That is hot weather Rusalka! Is it humid where you are at?

message 2609: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments A load a week wow. We do like 15 loads a week. In a large capacity front loading washer. But I have barn clothes. Wife never wears hospital clothes around house since orobably all germy. 2 kids and kids are good for like a load a day by themselves somedays. I spilled...

message 2610: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments Jealous you got to see Star Wars, Sarah. We are going on Christmas Day, I'm really looking forward to it. It's the only thing we have going on Christmas, just a low-key day with my mom - I can't wait! I just talked with my niece (whose husband is in the hospital), and she still wants to drive down for Christmas Eve services at my mom's church, and then presents and dinner at my brother's house. Normally we go up to her house on Christmas Day and spend it with her, Bernie, and the girls. This year I told her not to worry about brunch, and just enjoy her family.

message 2611: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments We do 10 to 12 loads a week (large capacity too). The fact that my kids use uniform at school helps a lot. If not we would be doing much more.

message 2612: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I do 3 loads a week but will likely do more this week. I want to wash blankets, quilts, throws, etc for Christmas. I think the only one who should be wearing a fur coat around here is the cat.

message 2613: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie It is only 47 degrees F (8 C) here today. It is supposed to get up to near 70 degrees again on Christmas Eve..our weather is officially on drugs.

My hubby and dog are napping. It is quite cute since they are both asleep on the couch ❤️

message 2614: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Nope. Not humid. Dry dry dry. The hot wind has come up today as well, and it feels like it strips the moisture out of you when you set foot outside.

I need to wander down the hill, pick up presents, leftovers and car from Mum's from last night, then planning to hang out in front of the fan today with a book and lots of grog slush.

Benefit to the weather is that I do a load of laundry, hang it out and it's dry by the time the next ones done in an hour. Best time of year to do spring cleaning washing, but as long as you don't mind things getting sun bleached in the 60mins on the line.

message 2615: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments It's surreal hearing you talk about how hot it is, Rusalka, I'm sitting in my living room unable to get warm unless the heater is blasting (we have terrible insulation). I'm glad someone in the world is warm tonight.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments https://youtu.be/qTx-sdR6Yzk. This is one of my favorite christmas tunes right here. On the radio tonight my dad comes down who is this. The dropkick murphys its like irish drinking/christmas song. Oh no he says I actually like it. Well I'll be a screaming cheetah. Who knew. I don't like a lit of traditional christmas music but you know there is a lot I like and the genres are pretty well coverwd. A lot of punk bands actually do really good christmas. Celine Dion O Holy Night is exceptional. The Boss (springsteen) has a lot to like. Bob Rivers for tje comedic angle. AC/DC mistress for christmas. Love John Lennons War is Over and also the cover of it by Melissa Ethridge. Basically any song except blue christmas there has never been a good version of blue christmas in my opinion. Cannot stand it.

As long as there isn't any lightening to set off more fires, or if so please be more than a k away from my house (less than a mile for the rest of you). I'm heading back to work for another couple of days to relax apparently... Urgh.

message 2627: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments I like Dropkick Murphy's quite a bit, too, Travis, and am not the biggest fan of most Christmas music out there...especially originals, some of the covers of standards can be beautiful. "A Story of Old New York" is one of my favorite Christmas songs. And of course, I really enjoy the Bowie/Bing duet from the 70's. Another all time fave is this one from my favorite Seattle band, Harvey Danger (RIP): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3ogx...

message 2628: by Travis (new)

I quite like that one too Peggy. My least favourites are 'Driving Home for Christmas' by Chris Rea and 'All I Want for Christmas' by Mariah Carey which are sadly the two that I have heard most often over the past couple of weeks. I really don't like them at all.

message 2630: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments The Christmas song I most dislike is "I'll Be Home for Christmas" because it fills me with melancholy thinking of soldiers separated from loved ones at Christmas or perhaps forever. I appreciate those who serve in our armed forces. Just wish we lived in a world where we didn't need soldiers and weapons.

It is a great song. HD was such a good band; my favorites are Sad Sweetheart of the Rodeo, and Cream and Bastards Rise. I think they got a little more airplay out here because they're local guys.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Heres a random memory. I always remember growing up and there was the folgers commercial where the mother smells coffee and comes down stairs to find her son Peter home to surprise everyone. Last year at Chtistmastime theyaired it a few times. It was real grainy and poor recorded being so old. But that commercial always comes to mind almost every morning when I crack open my Folgers can

message 2637: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I love that commercial, Travis :-) I wonder if they will ever play it again?

message 2638: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I'm with the others. Cool pic Travis!

I moan about christmas songs generally. But it would appear I pretty much know all the words to every one of them, even the ones that bug the hell out of me. It's doing my head in as I'll go in to a store and can't help myself from singing along (sometimes to myself sometimes out loud, although not too loud) and sometimes it is accompanied by a little jig. Nothing over the top mind. It's like I have christmas tourettes or like those games you play as a kid when the music comes on you sing and dance and then it stops and you have to stay still/lay down/find a chair. They also pipe the crimbo music into the toilets. I find that very disturbing indeed. It puts me off.

We went out for a lovely meal yesterday with my partners family. It was nice to see everyone. Came home last night feeling absolutely stuffed. Now back to vague normality for a few days before the big day.

It was our 1 year boat anniversary (or boataversary as Rusalka suggested) at the weekend. Hard to believe we've had it a year. We didn't take it for a cruise like we originally thought we would. Just did some work on it on Saturday and enjoyed some mulled wine in the evening.

message 2639: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Oh and it's the longest day/winter solstice today. When I woke up this morning the sun was still coming up which is unusual. It has been so dark this last week anyway, feeling like it hasn't even become full daylight. We're in a spot we've stayed before back in the summer and we would have been in full sunlight back then but now the sun is hardly peeking above the hill at midday.

message 2640: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments The good news is that from tomorrow, days will start getting longer again!! Although feeling-wise January and February always seem much darker and shorter-days than December.

It's the same here. When the sun doesn't come through all day feels like the end of the afternoon when it's almost getting dark again.

message 2641: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I'm not a big fan of Christmas music. I can handle it in small doses only. My least favorite Christmas song is the one about seeing mom kissing Santa. Oh, and Marilyn Monroe's "Santa Cutie!" It would be a toss up for which I dislike more.

It was a very busy weekend around my house. We are redoing the mortgage on our house and are having to do some repairs before the appraisers come. The husband and I worked outside all day Saturday (which was FREEZING cold (to me anyway)) replacing rotten wood under the fascia that had been originally installed incorrectly. Thankfully none of the wood that supports the roof of our house was damaged due to the shoddy installation. Sunday was spent building the new laundry room. We already had the wall frames up, ceiling finished and lights installed. My husband finished running the plumbing and electrical for the washer and dryer and for a sink and toilet. We finished the walls Sunday and now have to figure out what we are doing for flooring. It is coming along quite nicely. I'm excited to finally have a laundry room after 5 years of lugging our dirty clothes to either my parents' house or my mother-in-law's house!

message 2642: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Funny enough, I'm reading this while watching GMA, and somebody is on their singing a song from Willy Walker, is that a Christmas song? I don't think so, I like most Christmas music, at Christmas time!
Also, there is absolutely nothing better than a laundry room in your house!
My son came home from college for winter break, with every piece of clothing he owns for me to wash, I don't think he does much laundry because as he says he has to walk upstairs downstairs walk back upstairs and then sometimes everything is in use, I told him welcome to the life of a college student!
He also joined a fraternity, so now he has learned iron is nice dress clothes, funny what it takes to get them to learn things like this, and high school he had to wear nice clothes on game days for baseball, but did he iron those???

message 2643: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Dec 21, 2015 12:25PM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments The thing that bugs me about Christmas music is that I prefer rock radio stations, only to have to listen to hymns and children's songs at Christmas. The incongruity of it all. Stick to the genre, please. There are enough rock bands and singers who do rock Christmas songs. Bah humbug! LOL!

message 2644: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments The rock station I listen to has one or two christmas songs per hour, but fitting with the genre. No Mariah Carey or Wham!

message 2648: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments Ever since I worked in a mall at Christmas when I was in college, I've been off Christmas music. I think this was right around the time Celine Dion came out with her first Christmas album and those songs just played on a loop. It's not my cup of tea to begin with being an Alt/Punk/Glam girl in general. As for the rest...how many times can you hear yet another version of Winter Wonderland, or The Christmas Song? However, I think my least favorite Christmas Song is The Christmas Shoes...what emotionally manipulative drivel.

Well I spent the day in the ER with my mom. Her blood pressure has been through the roof, which has made her really dizzy, and was giving her heart pain. Apparently this has been going on for about 3 days...the heart pain that is. I could throttle her sometimes. I'm really grateful though that she didn't have a heart attack, and also, that she didn't have a blood clot in her lungs, as one of the tests came out concerning. The CAT Scan ruled that out though. She's been hypertensive for about 40 years now, but recently it's become very hard to manage. I served her a bunch of veggies for dinner tonight and am going to be pushing her on her diet now. We told her that only one family member is allowed to be sick during Christmas, and that's Bernie this year, so she better just get better.

Also...it started snowing, so that was a fun drive home...I hate driving in the snow.

As for us the blood clot in lungs was going well now has blood clot in right ventricle. Now they will out in a filter to catch clots coming from his leg to prevent them going all over. Which was what my wife said needed to be done 4 days ago .
