Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Mariab, sorry about your computer. It's never good when they get busted but worse when you have had it for a long time.

Stephanie, enjoy the Eagles concert!

message 152: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments AI thought at first you'd broken your computer because you had fallen off the sofa. Now I see only the computer did. I hope it is fixable Mariab.

Janice (jamasc) | 59882 comments Super weekends, Sarah and Kandice! Sorry about your laptop Mariab.

I hope you feel better and can enjoy the Eagle's concert, Stephanie. I'd love to go to their concert. Love the Eagles!

Kandice I didn't go to the Outlander panel this year, but I did go last year. I had read only the first three books , but was so excited about the show. The guy that plays Jamie was so perfect. At the Q&A portion three separate women just asked him to say "Sasanach" and the whole hall swooned!

Wow, that sounds pretty amazing! I love Sam Heughan, I think he is incredible as Jamie. The guy who plays Black Jack Randall is brilliant too. Hehe, I can just imagine everyone swooning when Sam said "Sassenach". There is just something about a Scottish accent ;)

message 156: by Kandice (new)

Kandice The guy that plays Black Jack was also on HBOs Rome. He was pretty amazing in that as well.

I still haven't watched the show, but I plan on it. Streaming has spoiled me because I like being able to binge watch.

Lol, it took me ages to work out that Black Jack was also in Rome. I sat there watching episode after episode thinking "I know I've seen him somewhere before" but it wasn't until the last couple of episodes that I worked out that he was Brutus on Rome!

I hope you enjoy the show when you watch it. I thought they did a great job of adapting it. There were some changes from the book but they worked well. This is definitely a show to binge on so it's great that you can do that. I was able to binge watch the first half of the series on Amazon Instant Video here in the UK as they released the first 8 episodes all at once but then they started releasing an episode per week during the second half in line with it airing on Starz. Sundays couldn't come round fast enough!

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Sounds like everyone had a good weekend! Sorry 'bout your computer though, Mariab.

My husband and I got to take our canoe out Saturday which was a lot of fun. It was really hot, but the water was really cold. We've had a lot of rain recently so the creek was up the highest I've ever seen and it moving pretty fast. I guess that is what caused the water temp. to be so low. It really helped us stay cool though.
We saw several ducks, a crane, two deer, two hawks, lots of dragonflies, fish... and I made friends with a butterfly that hung out with me for over an hour! Oh, and there was a cow in the creek at one point. When she saw us coming she made her way out of the water and back to the herd real quick thankfully. I wasn't looking forward to trying to paddle around her! LOL.

Work is going to be stressful this week I'm afraid. I'm already looking forward to a glass of wine when I get home tonight! There are only five of us that work in my department, two of which are on vacation. The third was diagnosed with meningitis on Friday and is in the hospital! (She's going to be okay, but will be in the hospital for at least a week). So, I'm doing my job and three others this week! I'm not complaining because I am thankful that I'm healthy and able to do it, but I've been feeling a little overwhelmed today. I think today should have been the worst of it though, so hopefully the rest of the week will be a little smoother. This is my least busy week of the month so that's a plus. I'm just trying to be positive and not let myself get too overwhelmed.

message 159: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I would love to go out on a canoe or raft! I grew up in the sticks surrounded by creeks, streams, lakes and rivers, but I live in San Diego now and it is very, very urban.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I hope it gets better for you at work, Kimmey.

Your canoe trip sounds like fun. My friend and I used to rent a Coleman canoe at U-Haul for $8.00 a weekend, tie it onto the top of my 1969 VW bus, and head south on I5 to the Santiam Rest stop (on the Santiam River) to put in with some other friends of ours. At the end of the day, we would get out at Champoeg State Park on the Willamette River. The only part I always hated was jockying the cars back and forth (at least gas was cheaper then). We also used to paddle on the Tualatin River, but it was slow and not much fun. We camped out on an island in the river one night and had a blast.

Janice (jamasc) | 59882 comments Your weekend sounded lovely, KimmeyDiann. Funny about the cow! I hope your week isn't too stressful.

message 162: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Thanks, Lisa and Janice :) the concert was awesome! They ended the show singing Desperado. The only song I know the majority of the words to ;-) my hubby is the Eagles fan in our household but I was surprised to find out I knew some of their songs :-)

message 163: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I love canoeing. I did a lot of it in the scouts and I had a boyfriend who used to race so I followed him around a lot. It's a great sport and also a great way to relax and see wildlife and the countryside. I am going to get one at some point now we're on the canal. Every time I see one at the moment I comment that I want one.

I hope your work week isn't too over the top KimeyDiann.

Glad you enjoyed the concert Stephanie.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments @Cherie, your canoe/camping trips sound amazing! We normally go with a big group like that and its so much fun. We have some friends getting a trip together this coming weekend, but I don't think we'll go. The temps are supposed to be in the upper 90's (F) for the next week or so with the heat index around 110, that is too hot to be out of the air conditioning! LOL.

@Stephanie, the concert sounds awesome, glad you had a good time!

Stephanie Thank you, Sarah, KimeyDiann and Janice! I will post a picture here if I can get it to upload to Photobucket :-)

Edit

Here is the photo! It was my favorite out of the few I took. Regular cameras were not allowed :-( so this was from my phone.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) LOL! So many bands have so many farewell tours !

message 173: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59882 comments They mention that on the DVD. That's why they called it their Farewell Tour No 1, instead of just Farewell Tour. The Eagles are timeless.

Sarah | 18549 comments I have just been updating FactFact as I haven't touched it since I joined at the beginning of the year. It reminded me of Rothfuss and Martin's next books and I was just checking GR to see if anything new had come up and I see that Rothfuss' book now has an expected publication date AND IT'S NOT UNTIL 2017!!! Argh! That's ages away. I hope that changes. :-(

I haven't updated FictFact for ages either Sarah. May have to go and do that, if I can remember my password!

Oh no, I really hope that is wrong about Rothfuss' book! We seriously cannot wait that long!

Everyone seems to have so many amazing things to do!

Anyways I'm expecting to get better at this and get to know everyone...cheers!

message 190: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Work hasn't been as bad yesterday and today as I expected. We weren't supposed to have any new hires this week while our HR/Payroll person is on vacation. Before she left she said if any new hires came in to just send them to the HR person at our corporate office next door.... Monday I had two emails and two phone calls from superintendents saying they were sending in new hires this week. I called HR next door to tell him to expect them only to find out he is out this week too! I've hired in three new employees plus we've had another 3 hired in on one of the job sites and I have one more that hasn't shown up yet. If that is the worst I have for the rest of this week, I can handle that! I just hope there isn't another day like Monday was!

message 191: by Bella (new)

Bella | 502 comments Hope you're not in too much pain, Bette.

I'm waging war on tomato hornworms and waiting for my husband to get off work. He worked overtime today for our vacation fund. We'll be off to play bingo when he gets back.

message 192: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Yes, show your face Travis! ;-)

Hope you get lots of reading done while you're off your feet Bette. I'm sure you'll get used to finding your way around the threads once you've had chance to look around. It's always a little confusing when you join a new group. This is where we chat about anything and everything and is probably the most popular post on here. We all like to talk!

message 193: by Betty T (new)

message 196: by Betty T (new)

Betty T (betty_t) | 24 comments @Sarah yes I am reading more. I just like to be more active

message 197: by Bella (new)

Bella | 502 comments Bette wrote: "@Bella too fast with my fingers. Tomato hornworms...never heard of them. Are they helpful as your tomatoes grow?"

No, hornworms are bad and evil. They mostly eat tomato leaves or any leaves of plants in the nightshade family. (Like eggplants, peppers.) If you let an infestation go, the worms can get up to 5 inches and kill the plant. I don't like to use chemicals, so I go out a few times a day and pick the worms/leaves off. Luckily, most of the worms have been about 1/4 or an inch long. Not much damage, yet.

message 198: by Betty T (new)

Betty T (betty_t) | 24 comments Wow Bella! I'm glad you have things under control!

Bella, how bad are yours? And how big?
