"If I get home and the dishes are done, I will be thoroughly shocked," Emerson joked as she finished filing through one pile and moved onto the last that just held these weird vintage soft tank tops, held together at the sides by leather strings. "And if he hasn't left, then I must be special." She rolled her eyes playfully, grabbing a purple tank with brown leather in her size. "Do you want to look at anything else?"

Emerson rolled her eyes, for real this time as she adjusted all the clothing over her arm before traveling to the front of the store to pay. Thankfully, it wasn't too busy so she got out quick, shouldering the two bags she had as waited outside in the middle of the mall to wait for Jacqueline.

"Ah... No, I'm good. Was there anywhere else you wanted to check out?" Emerson asked, looking around. She sort of wondered where the people inside the two stores they had been in thought Jacqueline had disappeared to, but decided to drop it. Wasn't important if she didn't get caught.

"Oh, yeah, that sounds really good," Emerson agreed, following after Jacqueline into the food court. She stopped in front of a frosted drink counter and looked up at the menu, absently running her hand over her hair.

((Sorry I missed this.))
Emerson smiled a little bit when Jacqueline actually paid for her drink before moving forward and ordering a chocolate-strawberry shake. She paid and waited by the counter, smiling at the guy behind it as she accepted her shake and turned to look for Jacqueline, heading over and sitting down at the table once she spotted her.

Emerson turned slightly to check him out subtly. "Oh, wow..." she trailed off, arching her eyebrows to give a smirk at Jacqueline. "Hey, if you turn so you can't see him well, I'll wait and see if he's checking you out." It felt silly, acting like a human schoolgirl, but it seemed acceptable around Jacqueline.

Emerson watched the guy for a moment before going, "Oh... Ew..." As her eyes flickered from him back to Jacqueline. "He has a tongue piercing. Like, a ring on the tip of his tongue." She watched him for another second before he caught her staring. "Well, he was certainly checking you out. He licked his lips." Emerson shuddered, sipping her shake.

Emerson shook her head while rolling her eyes, sipping on her shake while openly watching the interaction a bit. She smirked a little and started watching the crowd when Jacqueline actually reached the table, wondering if Jacqueline planned on leaving with him if things went well enough.

Emerson gave a half-smile as Jacqueline slid back into her seat and told her what had happened. "Smooth, demon girl..." she said, casting a glance as the guy looked at Jacqueline once more before standing and leaving. "So... Would now be an okay time for me to ask you something? About that guy before, oh, what was his name... Ludo?"

"Well, it just seemed like you were going to say more before Bones interrupted you earlier. Was I wrong?" Emerson asked, her brow furrowing slightly as she sucked on her straw a bit more. She knew every time she asked Bones about his past (well, not every, but more the harder stuff to discuss) he got a bit upset. If it would upset Jacqueline, she'd drop it. It was probably a bad idea to ask behind Bones' back, anyway.

Emerson listened as Jacqueline spoke with a frown, stopping from drinking her shake as she didn't feel like it. Now she knew why Bones got so upset every time she pressed and didn't want to talk about it. She felt guilty, like she should have just waited for Bones himself to tell the story. "I'm sorry," she said quietly once Jacqueline finished. "Why did he want to join Ludo?"

Emerson was about to suggest that maybe their brother had felt lonely or lost, but realized it might have hurt Jacqueline's feelings, so she didn't. "I figured Bones would kill me if I asked you, so how about we just keep it to ourselves?" she suggested, knowing Jacqueline would agree.

Emerson bit her lip as Jacqueline sort of took off, and she stood up and threw away her trash before jogging to catch up with her, sliding her shopping bags up on her arm. She finally caught up with Jacqueline by the truck and reached her hand out to touch her arm. "Hey, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked." She sighed, running a hand through her hair. "I didn't mean to upset you."

Emerson's jaw clenched while Jacqueline yelled at her, a muscle feathering while she made and unmade fists of her hands. She was about to yell back but took a deep breath as Jacqueline stormed back to the truck, instead walking to the other side and opening the door to speak, not getting in. "Jacqueline, the only reason I thought that was because that's what I did. My brothers paid little mind to me when I needed them, so I rebelled by fleeing to Kylist. And now I don't see them at all." She was actually quite angry that Jacqueline had allowed herself into Emerson's thoughts. "You're aware that I didn't know your brother when he was alive, so I'm not sure why you would take that so personally, especially when you don't have permission to read my mind." She sighed, checking her pockets for her keys and wallet, considering walking home. "I said I'm sorry."

Emerson groaned when Jacqueline just drove off, though she was actually grateful. She took a glance at the mall one more time before beginning to walk, grateful the mall wasn't too far from the shop. She silently willed Crispin to not be there; she didn't want to have to tell him what had happened. But also, it would probably be worse coming from Jacqueline. She took her time, but a few minutes later she was back at the shop, shouldering the door open and dumping her bags on the service counter.

"Nothing, your girlfriend's a bitch that's all" Jacqueline said and walked up the stairs and into the room she called as hers a long time ago. She slammed the door shut and locked it before going to lay on the bed.
Bones sighed, "Well that's just great" he said and ran a hand through his hair. He debated about going up to talk to her but decided not to. Definitely was not going to get in the middle of that.
Emerson figured out that Bones had left, and grabbed her bags and headed up the ladder. She huffed, hanging up her new clothes before checking in on the kitchen, seeing that he had actually done the dishes. The angel bit her lip and closed her eyes before climbing up the ladder to go to her small personal library, although she probably wouldn't be able to read. Now was the time she really wished she had a joint.

As her finger's brushed the spine of a book, Emerson groaned loudly when she heard the knock on the door, debating ignoring it but just taking her own time getting downstairs. Her cheeks burned when she saw Crispin, coming to the door and opening it. She looked up at him before quickly away, wondering how Jacqueline had already told him about the argument. "Hello," she said stiffly, sort of half-standing in his way of coming in.

Emerson rolled her eyes. "I'm fine," she muttered. She didn't exactly want to let him in, but it seemed sort of easier to talk, so she moved aside and closed the door behind Bones. "And I'm pretty sure you would be even more upset if I told you. I asked about something I shouldn't have, and she read my mind after she elaborated, and was pissed." She huffed, crossing her arms over her chest and leaning back into the wall.

Emerson was grateful to Bones for saying he didn't want to know. "Maybe she is a lot to handle, but it really was my fault." She sighed and looked away. "Thanks you for coming over." Emerson bit her lip and looked back up at Bones again. "But no, I don't want to talk."

Emerson still stood poised to kiss Bones again, so when he turned around she kind of slumped, but instead of turning herself she leaned over and kissed his cheek before nodding. "I'll see you later," she said, turning around to head back upstairs.

A flash of a smirk went across Emerson as she remembered their set date the next day, watching Bones' car head out before she locked her door and headed back upstairs.

Emerson changed out of her jeans and shirt into a working tank and shorts to go tend to her rooftop garden, realizing she hadn't in a couple days, which ended up making for a couple hours of work. Once she was finally satisfied with the state of the garden, she headed to the kitchen and made a sandwich, eating quickly before taking a shower. Once she was done, though, a few minutes afterwards she climbed into bed, exhausted after everything that had happened.

The next morning, Emerson woke up a but late in a panic, realizing that she and Bones hadn't set up a time for the date. What if he was already on his way? She shot out of bed and finger-combed her hair, grabbing the purple tank top she had bought and some pants from her closet. Downstairs, she rushed to grab a granola bar and eat it while she made sure the back door was locked.

A while later, when Emerson looked at the clock and decided not to stress about being ready when Bones came over, she made a pot of coffee and sat at her shop counter to drink it while filing through orders and bills.

Paying the bills was extremely dull, but it was a pastime while waiting for Bones, an it had to be done, so Emerson took the time to finish all of them, stacking the envelopes on the counter to be mailed later. She sorted orders by relevance and client importance, so that didn't take much time other than deciding who mattered more.
