Krysta (krystafig) | 4089 comments June 2015 Challenge – Founding of Father’s Day
Duration: June 1st – June 30th, 2015

Since we celebrated our mother figures last month, this is the month for the men in our lives! Many countries celebrate it on the third Sunday of June, though it is also celebrated widely on other days by many other countries.

Challenge Rules:
→ When you sign up for the challenge, please post some kind of a place saver so that I can link you up under the participants.

→ For each book you read, please indicate the title and the date you finished reading it. Also, when the task gives more than one option to choose from, please make it clear which option you’ve chosen. If the task requires a specific cover, include the book cover.

→ You may only use each book for one task in this challenge, but feel free to use the same titles in other challenges!

When you complete the challenge, please post your entire, completed list as a new message to make it easier for everyone to see what you've read, and to have your name marked as "completed".

→ If you decide that you've bitten off more than you can chew, feel free to let me know you'd like to downgrade, or even back out of the challenge. However, please do not delete post. It will mess up the links to other participants' postings if you do.

Difficulty Levels:
Easy – Pick any 2
Medium – Pick any 4
Hard – Pick any 6
Read-a-holic – Read all 8!

Tasks:
➀ Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society.
✰ Read a book with a leading male – or – Read a book with a male author

➁ In 1910, a Father's Day celebration was held in Spokane, Washington, at the YMCA by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was born in Arkansas.
✰ Read a book that was has a 0, 1, or 9 in the number of pages – or – Read a book that takes place in a state other than the one you were born in

➂ Father’s Day was first celebrated in the Spokane YMCA on June 19, 1910.

✰ Read a book that’s release date was pushed back – or – Read a book that reminds you of another book, or is often compared to another book.

➄ Americans resisted the holiday for its first few decades, viewing it as nothing more than an attempt by merchants to replicate the commercial success of Mother's Day, and newspapers frequently featured cynical and sarcastic attacks and jokes.
✰ Read a book that you’ve been “resisting” or hesitant about – or – Read a book that lists “humor” on the book’s main page under genres.

➆ In recent years, retailers have adapted to the holiday by promoting greeting cards and traditionally masculine gifts such as electronics and tools. Schools and other children's programs commonly have activities to make Father's Day gifts.
