Rethinking perhaps listening to 2001: A Space Odyssey as it would also work for the toppler too.

I loved the parking lot in the report thread. :) (I'm trying not to post there, and keep the chit chat here)

Hush you!
I know that some books were okay'd because the vehicle is a central part of the story or like another 'character'. I didn't see anywhere that anyone gave an opinion for The Lincoln Lawyer. Has anyone read it that can tell me if 70% of the story happens in the car or if the car is like another 'character'?

Yay! thats good cause I just picked it by looking at another book I am reading "All the Light We Cannot See". I am going to browse some more.
Holy cow this is difficult! I, too, picked A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian which, oddly, isn't about tractors. I've read On the Road and I don't remember a car, train, bike, but I do remember an underage dancer in Mexico ... hmmm.
I may read The Dharma Bums, because it came up on the Goodreads transportation list, but if it doesn't look promising, I'll switch to that Miriam Toews book (assuming it's at my local library!)
Who came up with this "must be part of the story" requirement? Grrrr.
Hello I have three I am going to try
Caravans James Michner
Pirate Latitudes Michael Crichton
The Gray Ship Russel Moran
so I have camels and two ships
Please let me know if these are ok to use?
Thing Two...There's definitely a car in On the Road but it isn't 70% part of the story it's more like a prop. It's more about what happens in the different places he goes to than the getting their part
Amy and Roger's Epic Detour is almost all in a carSome obvious choise: Around the World in 80 Days and Five Weeks in a Balloon

Thanks for killing my book, guys. :(
It is so hard to know how much of a book qualifies before reading it. Is there any way we can post a list of what books are approved? Thanks.

You're good to go on Pirate Latitudes and The Gray Ship. There's a lot of build up on Caravans (as is typical Michener) and the trek to find the white woman doesn't start until after the first 100 pages, so it's doubtful that one fits.
Diane wrote: "It is so hard to know how much of a book qualifies before reading it. Is there any way we can post a list of what books are approved? It's what anyone would have to do to compile a list. I would do it if I had more time, but I'm swamped with work and life just now.

You did approve On the Road, but I am not sure if I can still use it.
I'm pretty sure about 3/4 of the book Cujo takes place with its main characters locked in a car, doesn't it?
Diane wrote: "You did approve On the Road, but I am not sure if I can still use it. ..."
I looked up the Wikipedia article on it and it sounds like there is a lot of time spent on the bus, in various vehicles (hitchhiking), cars, more buses... there was even a flat-bed truck that he rode on.
So it sounds like it fits the criteria to me. You aren't restricted to one vehicle. In this case, there are several.
Ann wrote: "I'm pretty sure about 3/4 of the book Cujo takes place with its main characters locked in a car, doesn't it?"I think you're right. Looking at the plot on Wikipedia, seems to support that.

I'm planning to read Havoc. It takes place in space on a disabled ship that is being used as a prison for dangerous criminals.

The mother and the son are in the car for the bulk of book
Plus the father is traveling in cars or planes and I believe cujos owner works on cars in his barn. Oh he does thats how they end up trapped in car by cujo. Lots of cars.
That brings to mind that King has a few books related to cars - Cujo, Christine, From a Buick 8. And then his son has NOS4A2 and Heart-Shaped Box has a road trip.

Haller doesn't work out of the Lincoln much in this one. He actually has to get an office :)
I am reading Death by Water, in which Phryne Fisher takes a two week cruise, having been hired by the cruise line to catch a jewel thief who has been troubling their passengers.
I started my book today. It's a memoir by a woman working narrowboats delivering goods around the country during WWII. Interesting so far. And turns out the book also won an award, the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize so I can use it for the group theme read too. result! Maidens' Trip: A Wartime Adventure on the Grand Union Canal
I started reading Havoc only to find that it's set on a space station, not a ship as I thought. Oh well, it's a pretty fast moving story and I meant to read it anyway. And this gives me an excuse to look for another book!
Janice wrote: "Bummer that it's not going to work, Lara. But yeah for more gophering."There's always that silver lining :-)
I have narrowed my choises, but dont know if they will be accepted (Janice, You said, we had to go creative!):Howl's Moving Castle (the Castle is the transportation mode ;-)
TimeRiders There is a proper transportation machine
If that doesnt work, I have more traditional transportation modes:
The Stars My Destination
The Space Machine
I Am the Messenger

Long ago I been seeking for any excuse to read it;-)

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

I LOVE The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, it is my favorite Narnia book.
I think I'm going to read Murder on the Orient Express for this. I just inherited my grandparents' collection of old Agatha Christie paperbacks and that one is calling my name. I read And Then There Were None last fall and really enjoyed it.
Mariab wrote: "I have narrowed my choises, but dont know if they will be accepted (Janice, You said, we had to go creative!):Howl's Moving Castle (the Castle is the transportation mode ;-)"
I'm not sure about the ones involving time travel unless the majority of the book is about the time travel itself and not what happens in the various time zones. One that I think would work is Just One Damned Thing After Another because when they weren't in the pod travelling, their pod became their temporary home while in other times, or they were working on the pods back at the university.

Oh, thank you, Janice. I just needed one more series to start. It sounds very interesting though! On my TBR now.
Someday I am going to read
Howl's Moving Castle. I have had it on my TBR forever. I love, love, love the movie. We have almost worn out the DVD watching it.

Thanks for mentioning that Casceil. I saw that this morning and was going to mention, but forgot by the time I got here. Sad, but true.
