I think Howland Reed knows too much, hence he has been left out of the story so far......bu I'm hoping to see him come to the fore in Winds. It makes no sense to name him as one of Ned's closest friends and then he never shows up. There is also Robb's Will and if it will finally make it to Howland Reed.....

Dantezgirl | 195 comments Tyrion says he "Flew" with the crows over the battle of black water or something like that while he was injured. Is he a warg

message 403: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments Huge crack pot but . . Is there any chance at all Arya and Jon are brother/sister? all this little sister stuff and their appearance has me suspicious lol or is she supposed to be the parallel to her aunt?

message 404: by Japhia (new)

Japhia | 332 comments Parallel to aunt.

message 405: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments Reading adwd. Im at the stone men bit. Aegon is missing from the scene. In the show its Tyrion and Jorah facing the stone men. Sooo are they going to reveal Tyrion's suspected lineage rather than use Aegon

It's so far removed from the show at this point in the story. You really have to just put the show away and read it stand alone

I feel like Howland is playing a role that he knows is his to play. And Ned knows it as well. I just don't think we know about it yet! Come on Winds!!

message 408: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments Howland reminds me of Dumbly Dore. All knowing yet accomplished nothing really. I bet it was Howland and all his . . Jojen has seen bull. Or something along those lines. I just feel it was him convinced Ned to go along with Lyanna.

message 409: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments Dragon glass as stannis said, is plentyful on dragon stone. But . . they need a boot load of Valyrian steel. Where are they to get it all. Even if they can unite the realm there's bugger all Valyrian steel?

message 410: by Japhia (new)

Japhia | 332 comments Magic is back. Likely the the guys that made the wildfire will be able to make it. There are some maesters that might learn as well. Heck maybe Sam will figure it out at the citadel.

message 411: by Alex (new)

Alex Murphy | 157 comments Someone suggested to me. that Valerian steel comes from dragon fire.
Think of where there is a pile of steel melted by dragon fire?
The Iron Throne. Perhaps symbolically and for necessity the Iron Throne is dismantled for valerian steel. Remember it can be reworked.

message 412: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Barclay | 8 comments My guess/theory is that someone would need to go to Valyria and find an old book that tells how to make Valyrian steel. If the Citadel had that written down in an old book, someone should have found it already. Sam found out about dragon glass killing white walkers because he looked for the info. V. steel is too coveted for no one to ever look for the recipe.

I doubt there would be any in the Iron Throne. They would have been kept or reworked, as they make great name-day gifts for friends and allies.

message 413: by Alex (new)

Alex Murphy | 157 comments But they don't know how to forge valerian steel. They wouldn't know to check the throne for it.

message 414: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments Val says Shireen is still able to transmit grey scale once it awakens again. True? or myth? also will that play a part in the war?

message 415: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments ‘Blood for fire, fire for blood.’ Who blows the hellhorn matters not.

message 416: by Japhia (new)

Japhia | 332 comments @alex They don't know how to forge valayrian steel but the know how to rework it. That's how tywjn was able to create two swords from ice. The throne would be a great source of v steel to quickly arm the realm.

message 417: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments Barristan muses on Ashara. He loved her from afar. She had purple eyes to? like Danny hence I guess his affections for Danny. Any who, she had a child lost it and comitted suicide. Any chance Danny is hers?

message 418: by Alex (new)

Alex Murphy | 157 comments My pet theory is that Jon is Ashara's son, as she's the one Ned cheated with.

message 419: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments I wonder if it wasn't cersei all over again. Ned tried to be the hero and tell her to I dunno flee lol so she did. Unlike Cersei she saw sense. I like the theory though.

message 420: by Japhia (new)

Japhia | 332 comments I always thought it was Brandon that slept with Ashara. That's more like him than Ned. I've always hoped that she didn't actually kill herself. Flinging yourself from a window in grief is so dramatic.

message 421: by Holly (new)

Holly (goldikova) I have a suspicion that Ashara Dayne was the naked septa who sailed down the Rhine with Tyrion and Grid.

message 422: by Holly (new)

Holly (goldikova) Grif, good grief I hate posting from my phone, it hasn't read the books and gets all the characters names messed up

message 423: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments I agree. It's not a ned thing to do briefly married or no. very few woman seemed to be that weak or dramatic in the series though. if it was a ploy why and how did she end up with Griff and co if true.

message 424: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments so is "Aegon" really just an Ashara child?

message 425: by Alex (new)

Alex Murphy | 157 comments Why can't it be a Ned thing to do? Everyone has flaws. A 15 year old head if a major familiar just married to a woman he barely knows, in a major war. Give him a break. Just never saw if Jon isn't his why he would keep it a secret from Cat. The Ned thing to do would be to carry the guilt.
I think young Griff is Lyanna's son while Jon is Ashara's they swapped.

message 426: by Japhia (new)

Japhia | 332 comments That was all before the war. At the time of the Tourney, he was the shy younger brother of super popular and cool older brother. Forget if Ned would have with ashara. Ashara would have been all over Brandon. And dornish women are often the aggressors.

A swap is interesting. But the purpose would be unknown. Ned could have just as easily not taken any kid back and left Ashara with both.

I assume GRRM killed Ashara because her plotline was going no where but if that's the case why include her at all? Red herring?

I imagine ashara's son was probably a dead ringer for aegon with his purple eyes. He was taken by varys after the war for the switch. And Varys killing ashara and spreading the story the child died.

message 427: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments Not bashing Ned as I agree. Young, War, New wife etc etc. I think it's totally possible. Maybe Ashara did like the shy type rather then Brandon's flamboyant personality. Or hell maybe even just a heat of the moment thing. But it all seems very odd.

What do folks think of Selmy's chances of surviving to oust this "Septa" Lemore?

message 428: by Japhia (last edited Oct 31, 2016 01:09PM) (new)

Japhia | 332 comments I have a crackpot theory!

Could the Doom that fell upon valyria be a meteor, the same meteor that is called the red comet - in present day and in the tales of AA and the prince that was promised?

Maybe a meteor strikes in different places across the world every few thousand years? Valyria. The neck. The summer isles have a “shattered” look that indicates it could have been one landmass once upon a time. The sword Dawn was forged from a meteor that fell to the earth using valyrian magic. The Daynes are part valyrian maybe their ancestor found a meteor and forged using Valyrian steel-working techniques.

Is it possible that GRRM's assertion that the end of ASOIAF will be “bittersweet”? Because after all the battles a meteor falls in the north. It would be interesting and weird.

message 429: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments I was thinking more Volcano like something occurred? Not sure if they understood Volcano's etc. But I do love the theory. It's unique and plausible?

message 430: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments The summer isles could be a gunwabdaland (Spelling) type thing. One land mass that naturally broke apart?

message 431: by Japhia (new)

Japhia | 332 comments @dana

Yea, I'm not convinced about the summer isles being an impact zone. And those would have to be freaking huge meteors.

message 432: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments In Clash Of Kings patch face sings about dancing shadows and how they stay. It got me thinking, did Mirri Maz Durr really dance with the dead in Game Of Thrones? and after Mellisandre and her shadow, what exactly happened to it? Where did it go?

message 433: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments Ive got to know. What in seven hells did Stannis do to make Robert treat him like an arse hole?

message 434: by Alex (new)

Alex Murphy | 157 comments I think it's more down to Stannis feeling his defence of Storms End wasn't appreciated, and that Renly was given the Baratheon family castle, while he got Dragonstone. I think it's more down to be rebuke that Stannis feels more than a real one.

message 435: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments But if the stories hold true then as elder Stannis does have right of way, as a male even more so as opposed to a female had there been one. They seemed traditional enough for that. Meh, I just think Robert was a ego centric arse

message 436: by Alex (new)

Alex Murphy | 157 comments Stannis is the rightful heir. And Robert was an ego centric arse.

message 437: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments I know if it was tha easy there would be no story but Im tired of Varys. He claims he knew of the twins incest, he knew of the bastards, he claims he is fighting for the realm, yet he does nothing. A word in Jon Arryns ear, squirrel away a few bastards or indeed do the same only with Robert and BOOM! of with her head! not to mention Jamie was right there as well! capture them, capture Tywin. There you are, no war as Joff would be dead and Robert free to advocate the throne to Stannis. I wouldnt say Danny as Robert wouldnt hear of it to be sure. But heck so much couldve been prevented by Varys.

message 438: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments speaking of advocateing. Robert says he wont leave because of joff. So as King why not skip Joff and give the crown to Tommen or bypass Tommen until he ages and let Stannis rule?

message 439: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments actually, does robert even say that about joff in the books? that joff is to dangerous so he cant leave?

message 440: by Alex (new)

Alex Murphy | 157 comments I don't get Varys either. He hasn't got the kingdoms best interests at heart, he's a Targeryen loyalist. He plotted all this while doing nothing about Aerys' craziness, as Robert was somehow unworthy or unsuited (he didn't burn people), or knew Joffery would turn out evil...somehow. Remember these plans have been put to work since the end of Roberts Rebellion. His main plan wasn't Dany, it is Aeagon. And if his plan wasn't that, he didn't plan on Drogo killing Viserys, so he would be the heir. By killing Kevan, who could have stabilised things, has heaped on more misery for people. There seems to be many characters that are Targeryen loyalists without any come back. Barristen is another. Hated Robert for the deaths of Illyia, but said nothing about Brandon or Rickard's deaths. And he must have been there.

message 441: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments Exactly. So it makes me wonder what the hell he wants. Is there a reason he couldnt bring Aegon back while the mad king was alive? secretly, I mean, or not even. Robert rebellion happened for Lyanna, so Im guessing while the mad king was burning peeps why not send word that Aegon is alive kill the mad king lol or something. Same as LF, what the hell is his end game? he trips from here to there for what? to have Cat swoon into his arms? to steal her daughter?

message 442: by Alex (new)

Alex Murphy | 157 comments Aegon was Rhagaer's son, if Varys wanted to replace Aerys, he should have helped Jon Arran put Rhagaer on the throne (the plan formed at the tourney at Harrenhal). Instead he actively worked to help Aerys, yet sabotaged all of Robert's, Joffery's etc, reign. Where Robert was a bit useless but nothing really bad happened while he was king.
I think Little finger is basically doing all this to get some kind of revenge of being treated like crap, by the houses, while trying to build a legacy of himself out the ashes.

message 443: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments True, so why not just do that. Jamie killed Aerys because he had enough of the chaos and madness, have him kill Aerys, seat Rhaegar no need for Robert. Or would Lyanna still complicate things? Maybe as king it means no Tourney, no rose?

message 444: by Alex (new)

Alex Murphy | 157 comments When Jamie killed Aerys, Rhagaer was already dead, Kings Landing was being stormed, Aegeon was dead or just about to. The whole Lyanna did mess things up. More than it needed to. Rhagaer marrying a Stark might have made the alliance to topple Aerys more stable. And many Targeryan kings had more than 1 wife. This is where a lot of the story gets a bit off for me. It just makes Rhagaer and Lyanna look stupid and extremely selfish.

message 445: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments Tyrion and Pycelle. Pycelle says Robert was vain, drunk, lecherous etc so needed to go. He then goes on to say Renly plotted to bring Maegery to KL to woo Robert. Is this a Varys plot? LF? Cersei? it fits in with your more than one suitor thing. Pycelle also says he hopped to seat Tywin on the throne instead of Visareys who was to young etc. Again whos plot is this? Cersei? Also, Tyrion wonders about their heads on spikes, Pycelle, LF, Varys, why didnt he?

message 446: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments I was thinking before then. Its said Aerys wasnt always mad, so once it got.worse and worse why not plot then?

message 447: by Alex (new)

Alex Murphy | 157 comments Robert was vain, drunk, etc, but he wasn't mad, and no worse than many of the Targeryan kings or heads of the houses. Pycelle was a lannister man, like Varys is a Targeryan one.
Apparently Aerys started going mad after he was held prisoner. But Targeryan were known to have crazy kings. Think it's mentioned, 2 good one bad somewhere.

message 448: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments So Robert stood no chance in hell? Just curious, Why did Robert ascend the throne? Why not pass it to Tywin? He went to war for Lyanna and the people Aerys killed, not to be king, so why not pass it to Tywin?

message 449: by Dantezgirl (new)

Dantezgirl | 195 comments Sorry in case folks havent noticed im reading the books. Anywho, Stannis and Renly meet, Renly asks for proof of incest and Stannis goggles like a deer in headlights! He has a bastard at storms end for christ sakes why not say so. He knows of the bastards in KL why not say so. He says he didnt tell Robert but told Arryn because Robert wouldnt give him the time of day, of true, whats the point of Stannis in KL with Robert? Would Robert be so stupid as to not listen to Stannis?

message 450: by Alex (new)

Alex Murphy | 157 comments Tywin didn't pick a side until the very end. His army came to kings landing but he hasn't decided yet which side to take. The rebellion was led by Robert, him giving it to Tywin was never really an option. And Jon Aryan probably wouldn't have supported it.
