Why Morpheus is Better than Jeb
Oh, and just so you know, I'm not totally Anti-Morpheus. I know he has some good points too, and Sophia did make some good points, but ultimately I think **spoilers** Alyssa made the right decision in choosing Jeb **spoilers** Morpheus is just too manipulative. I mean know **spoilers** He was forced into a lot of it by the Red Queen's Deathspeak **spoilers** so I gave him a little more grace after that, but I still think Jeb is better for her.
I can agree with you on that, though I disagree that Jeb let Alyssa be herself. Jeb loves normal Alyssa, the girl that wears blue yarn in her hair and skateboards, he's afraid of dark Alyssa, the girl who tried to eat live mice and can talk to moths and flowers. He may try to deal with it, but he's never had to deal with anything supernatural in his life before this - Alyssa has, and while he may try to accept her, he'll never be comfortable with that side of her.
Morpheus on the other hand fully embraces it, but he doesn't understand the normal side of Alyssa, the one that wants to trust her lover unconditional, who gets scared and just wants someone to love her.
In my personal opinion, neither of the boys are ever going to accept Alyssa's other side, if she ends up with Jeb she'll have to give up her Wonderland side, if she ends up with Morpheus the part that makes her human is going to fade away. I don't really foresee a compromise for either.
And as for Jeb accepting her...you could tell he was really freaked out, and he tried to hide it but just because he accepted her apology doesn't mean he accepted her dark side.
...he kind of had to, admit that I mean. He was about to die at the time and she was the only person who could really save him - I also felt that scene was a bit forced and out of character for Jeb (as in rushed - look see! Jeb isn't controlling! By the author to make him seem like less of a possessive boyfriend type) but that is my personal opinion.
And as first for your second point...I might have to agree. When I say I'm Team Morpheus I mean I like him better as a character (I really, cannot stand Jeb. I apologize. He just annoyed me. But I'm a sucker for dark, bad boys so...personal preference) I think Morpheus loves her more, and that Jeb and her are going to be...boyfriend and girlfriend for a few years maybe? I think Jeb likes her, but I don't think it goes as deep as Morpheus love. And I agree, he is manipulative and Alyssa isn't really comfortable with Wonderland, she may have accepted it as part of her but...she doesn't love it. I don't think she could rule it or live there for the rest of her life. She has her family back - Jeb loves her now. And Morpheus will still visit her. Why go back?
So I feel AT THE MOMENT Jeb is a better person for her, but I don't think their relationship will last long because:
A) Jeb doesn't remember anything about Wonderland therefore any character changes (being less overprotective, realizing he loves her after some other man tries to flirt with her etc.) never happened and he's still over controlling and views her as a fragile girl to be protected
B)Alyssa still has memories of Wonderland and her dark side has officially awakened. Jeb may have accepted her once - but he saw the events that led up to that, I'm not so sure he'd be as 'accepting' the second time
C) Morpheus. Alyssa may claim to love Jeb best but she still has attachments to him. AND just because Morpheus is like "Go back to your prince" today doesn't mean he'll be like that...tomorrow. He doesn't like Jeb and he still loves Alyssa, he's going to put huge roadbloaks in their relationship and I don't know how far Jeb will go to protect it.
But you raised some VERY valid points and at the moment, I may have to agree that Jeb is good for Alyssa, I just don't know how long it'll last.
Also sorry for going on so long. I'm a really wordy person and once I get attached to something I really can't shut up for awhile. :P

I agree in that Jeb tends to treat Alyssa as if she's nothing but helpless and innocent a lot of the times, and plus he was stupid enough to actually be dating the bitchy hot bully girl--which still really irks me even though it's the past. Like Stephanie Sinclair said in her review, "Even still was his girlfriend, who has a history of bullying Alyssa. Jeb seems to never defend his best friend, but instead expects Alyssa to try harder with getting along. >_> What’s worse is that Alyssa never really calls him on that. Why should Alyssa have to play nice with a bully? More importantly, why would her best friend ask that of her and never say anything to his girlfriend?"After I've thought a lot about it, I do feel like Morpheus has the upper hand here. But I dunno, both guys each have their own pros and cons... It's tough.

I really don't like it in love triangles when it's obvious and clear as day who the main love interest is, and here it's obviously Jeb. But I would like to see more from Morpheus, preferably more vulnerable moments.

Same! I'm getting steadily annoyed that each YA book has to include a love triangle, which is really two people who are obviously going to get together, and the odd man out whose just there for a bit of drama.
But same, I think we got a bit of that in the end with him, and we were able to see that he truly does care about her, but I want more of that. I think it'll really add depth to his character - and if he at least doesn't get the girl. (Which he won't.)
The least that can happen is that he'll get more fans and more depth as a character. Which is the main thing I'm hoping for in the next book. Oh and a cover, I would love him to be the face on the cover.

But you never know~ I don't know if you read the Shatter Me series but in the second book, that same "odd dude out" character has suddenly become a possible candidate for being the main love interest (he was the villain in the first book but he honestly took my breath away in the sequel, as cheesy as that sounds). Maybe more of YA will start doing this, cause I think it's a nice change.

I have, I've been meaning to read the second book because I adored the first and because my favorite character in the first, seems to have risen from the rank of "impossible" to "probable" in love interest arena. (Which really surprised me, I was afraid Warner would barely get any screen time in the second - and now he's become a favorite? I knew I loved SM for a reason.)
My library hasn't ordered it yet though, so it'll probably be awhile before I get my hands on it. I agree, shake things up a bit. Plot twists and "didn't see that coming" might become part of YA books again!

Same, and if equal representation on the love triangle, at least some fleshing out as a character (and pleasepleaseplease) a POV chapter/short story. (Since all authors seem to be doing 1.5's still need to read the one for Warner.)
Holy crap YESSSSS! I just got this book from the library, read it in one day, and then bought the kindle edition and am now on the second read through. I've actually done a few illustrations of some of the characters (including Jeb in his Prom outfit and Underland uniform, Alyssa in her skater outfit and Butterfly Threads ensemble, Jenara also in Butterfly Threads, Alison as she was when you first meet her, Morpheus in a leather/buckle getup, and a really rough sketch of Taelor) and while Jeb is pretty niceeee, Morpheus totally has him beat in my book. I'm not saying he's faultless but he never doubted Alyssa; he always believed in her where Jeb was always really quick to blame her for stuff. I was totally raging when he got all pissy with her for hurting Taelor's feelings...I went total murder town on my room for a WHOLE five minutes!!! >~<*

Something else I'd just like to add in Morpheus' favor would be the fact that, between him and Jeb, Morpheus would win hands down in assimilating. I really don't think it would be that hard for a secret magical world's wisest being to learn how to skateboard and do anything else Jeb can do. I do, however, think Jeb might have some difficulty with...well everything Morph can do. I'm not saying that Morpheus would like having to assimilate or even that he would (after all, no one tells him what to do) but if he did, he'd be the clear winner. He even mentions that in his interview, nothing in our world can phase him. He's from the land of madness y'all! ...but actually, I wouldn't mind having to see Morph effortlessly show up Jeb outside of Wonderland... =w=

That's exactly what team Jebpheus is and count me among its numbers. I still think Jeb is better for Alyssa, but I see enough good in Morpheus that I wouldn't be upset if they ended up together, just as long as Alyssa keeps her morals.
Remember what Jeb said after **spoilers** she apologized to him for how she acted under the influence of Wonderland berry juice and she explained that she had a dark side? He accepted her dark side too. **spoilers**
Also, for everyone who says Jeb is too controlling, he may have been at first, but he later admits that with how much she takes care of him, that she's strong enough on her own.
