Why Morpheus is Better than Jeb

I don't know if I'll be coming there, Nat. Just, after talking too much about the trilogy and writing the longest review for Ensnared in my life (and also for the other 2 books) I feel so drained and kind of...just want to leave these characters to rest and focus on something else... I'm sorry! :( :(

No, no at all. I`ll come I promise! Just not now, too soon.

Okay, that I can live with ;) We probably all need some time off, but my brain won't let me.

Ok so in the beginning of the first book I tried to like Jeb. Almost succeeded too. I knew this was supposed to be a 'love triangle' and I hate falling for the character that never gets 'picked' so I had to peek at the end to know at least to know who to root for. So I begin the book and find its really hard to like Jeb. One because he treats her like he wants to stuff her in a closet to keep her safe, and two, agreed with her dad that she shouldn't go to England to pursue with her career or whatever..and I'm like 'your making it very hard for me to like you buddy,' I almost succeed in liking him but low and behold Morpheus blows and breaks the stapled and tapped mass of any liking for Jeb. I mean Jebs is a good guy, but that is all he seems to be. An ok guy. He wants to protect Alyssa, and while that is a great thing for any guy to do, he seems to want to push Alyssa in a closet to keep her safe. Nope not something I find good in a guy. Morpheus however,is amazing in every aspect! He sort of reminds of Jack Sparrow in a since that he seems to have a certain motive but really has a different kind of motive all along. Like the part he seems to leave Alyssa for Red to take over. But his real motive was to get Alyssa so angry that she would be able to expel Red from her. He never left her, he new that Alyssa was the only one who could save herself and gave her what she needed to do so. That is what I LOVE about Morpheus, he knows Alyssa is capable of so much and pushes her to reach her full potential, while Jeb just seems to want to hide her away. Morpheus is manipulative, but always has true and good intentions. He did however use Alyssa in the beginning because it was the only way to save himself. And even if he did ask her to help him, she most likely would have said no. And after the turn of events with her mother, there was no way he would have left anything to chance. But every circumstance he put Alyssa in she could handle it! He knew she could all along!
And another thing, Morpheus seems to except both Alyssa's human and netherling side, while Jeb is ok with her netherling side he just wants her humanity more...
All in all, Morpheus is one of the best characters that I've read in a long time and is so complex and has different layers to him that it is fascinating!

That`s why we love Morpheus so much.
Have you read the whole trilogy?

I agree with you about all the loose ends. I think Alyssa wasn`t forced to do anything. I understand that Alyssa is basically A.G.Howard and she loves both Jeb and Morpheus dearly and doesn`t want to choose. So I can`t be more satisfied with the ending. After all, Morpheus gets to be with ALyssa FOREVER. He deserves it! :D It`s going to be the best forever! And that way Alyssa can grow a little more in age and wisdom, to match the wisdom keeper in every way.
And a deeper look in Morpheus and Alyssa`s love life...well, I WILL PAINT THAT ON MY BLOODY WALL!!! :D

YES, I told you months ago, I want their honeymoon day by day with details. Of course no one is going to write that, but I want all the same.

Oh, @DaHanci we need a baby ASAP, so they are not needed! :D

P.S. Nessy, you remember that thread, right? I found it in case someone wants to read https://www.facebook.com/groups/38183...

Magical Elixirs* recommended, but not necessary.
Or- Magical Elixirs Can Be Thrown Out Window.

Well, they don`t need magical elixirs to prove that they love eachother anymore. But it would be fun if those potions make them do crazy stuff. Like Will and Tessa on the balcony in Clockwork P. crazy!

Yes, I remember. I`m against any potions now that Alyssa is not 18 anymore. Just:

Morpheus is better then Jeb, because at the end of all things, it was Morpheus who had to sacrifice things he held dear, for Alyssa He had to wait until she was done in the human world. Jeb never gave up anything, Jeb didn't have to wait. MORPHEUS did.

Yes he did. But we can`t change the ending. So I am going to move on with other books, while I wait for the novella and just be happy that the epilogue REALLY HAPPENED and Alyssa IS with Morpheus in PRESENT DAY, not in some dream or prophesy. And we`re going to get a short story about their married life. Simply perfect. I don`t care how, but they are together. And that`s what matters. There are far worse possible endings and love triangles. *I`m looking at you, Darkling, my dear love!*

I don't know where I stand with Jeb now. I hated him in the first two books, but he improved a bit in Ensnared, so I no longer hate him. But I still don't like him either. I guess I'm just tired of him and want it all behind, so Alyssa could move on to her eternity in Wonderland. He is inherently a good guy and all, but I neither understand nor like his purpose in the story. And he is so not my type of a book boyfriend.
But even if I don't like Jeb or his relationship with Alyssa, I didn't want him to die. I wanted him and Alyssa to realize that they are better off as friends and I wanted him to return to the human realm to live his human life.
I actually find it lame when in a love triangle one of the guys dies or gets trapped somewhere or otherwise becomes "unavailable", so the heroine has no choice but to end up with the other guy. My preferred method to resolve a triangle is for the heroine to choose. You know, when she says "I want to be with *insert name*, because I'm madly in love and he is the one I can't live without.".
But like @Nessy has already said, we can't change the ending. I'm so tired of rehashing it and all the drama, and I want to move on to better and more pleasant things. Like the fact Alyssa and Morpheus are together and that is what matters the most. :)
Nessy, I wish there was a "Like" button here, so I could like your whole post above. *hugs*

No potions at all? Never ever? Now, that may eventually result in a LOT of babies. LOL

PEOPLE.
GUESS WHAT I WROTE TODAY.
"You're frowning." I lay a hand on his back.
"That's true," Morpheus says, but his expression doesn't change. I lie down in his lap and reach one hand up to touch his face. He finally smiles, then pouts.
"Why the ridiculous face?" I ask, pinching his cheek.
He pokes my nose in response. "I wanted to be first."
I laugh and hug him.
Jealous, immature, OOC Morphy with an equally OOC Alyssa.
My point being- I was totally mad that Jeb got to go first =3=.

Well, I don't care about Alyssa's virginity when it comes to that ending. Seriously, guys, think this: if it was a NA novel, and Alyssa was a year older, she already would have slept with Jeb first while they were dating. Even in this YA series, they technically could have.
Actually, I find it annoying that in YA books virginity of the heroine is treated like some grand prize bestowed on the lucky guy. Like it is the biggest assert or something. Alyssa's virginity was treated that way too, to a certain extent. I DID want her to to spend that date night with Morpheus the way it WAS SUPPOSED TO BE. :P Because what's the point of seduction if you don't even give in? Not even once? Giving in is always the best part, haha. But Alyssa was obsessing that Jeb should come first. Like he would freak out if she wasn't a virgin anymore. Like Haley mentioned in her analysis.
But then again, if Alyssa spent that night with Morpheus, she probably wouldn't go back to Jeb after this. Because let's be honest, who would?
So don't worry. So Alyssa had her human life. And then she returned to Wonderland, got her 16-year-old body back. And as you remember, she was crowned before she had any "experiences" and she was supposed to return back to exactly the age she was crowned. If that makes you feel better ;). And then she and Morpheus walked through that traditional circle of flames to get rid of all the tethers of the past, thus starting life anew.
Do you remember that quote from Ensnared Morpheus said?
«Tis a netherling tradition for the couple to walk through a circle of flames, to burn away the tethers of their past and start life anew, pristine. Like purifying precious metal.»
Well, it wasn't only about dancing (and other things) on the sun in Alyssa's vision. It was symbolic, them both getting rid of all the emotional baggage as well. Starting anew. Alyssa will have her human memories (because wasn't that the whole point of her having a human life?), but she thus was "breaking up" with the human world and starting her reign in Wonderland and life with Morpheus. And they have eternity together.
P.S. Maybe Alyssa wasn't that much out of character in your little scene ;) Who knows? LOL
P.S. 2. Really, guys, it's not about being first. Do you also remember what Morpheus said how he has every confidence in his abilities to overshadow everything Jeb can do? Well, I have confidence in his abilities too. ;P

Diane, I know. I just saw that virginity thing mentioned more than once by different people, so when it came up here again, I thought I'd say it. Just in case.

@Natalia, this hug is for you:

CONGRATS, GIRL! You did it! You overcame that ending! I`m proud of you!
Anyways, Natalia already said it perfectly, but it is actually very funny to me, so I`ll comment it myself.
1. Alyssa is human and loses her virginity to Jeb.
2. She returns to Wonderland FOR REALSIES!
3. She gets crowned and is now 16 forever.
THE CATCH:
She was a virgin when she was 16.
SO
Alyssa loses her virginity twice.
Am I the only one who thinks this is funny? Well, okay. My point is that Mopheus does not lose anything on the virginity part.
And now we`ll have a novella for their married life...BUH-YAAA! *happy dance*
ENSNARED SPOILER:

IN ENSNARED MORPHEUS SAID that Jeb is very small in some important aspects and Alyssa laughed hard. So we don`t have to worry about that too. And yeah, my attention was kept in tact during that scene! MY DIRTY MIND JUST COULDN`T GO PAST IT. :D

And no, you are not the only one who finds the virginity thing hilarious. I already mentioned it in the Ensnared discussion thread here a couple of months ago, because the idea that Alyssa got to be a virgin twice just cracks me up ))

Btw, I`m a little bit scared for that novella. I am afraid, because YA has a pattern to ruin male love interests in character. I WOULD LOVE LOVE LOVE to read about M and A`s married life, but I don`t want something way too cheezy. I LIKE IT ROUGH and I`m here for their rough tough love!!!!! LOL!

Nessy wrote: "And yeah, my attention was kept in tact during that scene! MY DIRTY MIND JUST COULDN`T GO PAST IT. :D "
And because you mention that... The first time I was reading that chapter in Ensnared I was crying so hard I didn't care for jokes. But the second time, as I was rereading it, even though I was still crying, I actually started giggling when Morpheus said it. I know he was trying to lift Alyssa's mood so she would stop crying and it was such a silly thing to say, but it was somehow so funny, even in that situation.
Another thing I adore about Morpheus. The fact that he never allows himself to wallow in despair and mope around. His glass is always half full. Even as he knows she is leaving him for a lifetime in so many ways, and I can only imagine how much it hurts him, he is still trying to make Alyssa not feel so bad about it and distract her attention with his humor.

@Nat, we can`t change the ending. Morpheus gets to be with Alyssa forever and that is ALL that matters. I am just tired, you know? I am never going to forgive Ruin & Rising. And with that ending there was no one or no future chapter to soothe me and tell me that the Darkling is okay. And while my heart is crying for the Darkling, I`ll just let all other endings slide around me and don`t think too much about them. My heart can`t go on and on and on with that. So for me - it was easy. :(

Don't get too carried away, this is YA, after all. I'm not sure rough love is on the menu in a YA book. ;)
Yeah, and I also hope Morpheus didn't change over the years, that he remained his witty, snarky, dirty-minded self with blush-inducing, quotable lines :)

No, I don`t mean sex. I mean that they are always arguing and challenging each other. That is what I want to read. Not something way too cheezy.

I totally read that as "everything Jeb-rated."
Natalia, I rate you five Jebs. [edit: 5 Morpheuses!]

What do you even mean "everything Jeb-rated"?

And don't feel guilty, I'm laughing too. It's the biggest joke ever )) I can't even. ROFL))
She didn't say impossible, just unlikely. She wasn't sure if Ivory can have a child at all. That's how I remember it, at least. I have to look up that thread.
